It is a quaint historic area full of traditional apple wine pubs. Apple wine is the traditional drink of Frankfurt and MOST Frankfurters will choose it over a pint of beer. Rauscher Brunnen, the sterile looking lady statue, spits at irregular intervals at pedestrians walking by. I was in hysterics when I witnessed an older man get soaked as he posed with the statue for photos. He yelled and ran freakishly as if he was shot! It was one of those cases where you had to be there. The statue was named after an old song and "Rauscher" means "partly fermented cider" in German. The surrounding narrow brick streets, old homes, and wet pants, make this statue a worthwhile stop.

I was on a road trip and noticed that Burg Frankenstein was along the way. So I took a detour…read more I was glad that I didn't make this a destination. Burg Frankenstein is ruins. The castle itself is a set of ruins. You can walk up some stairs. You can look out at the view from the top. They have adjacent buildings and a couple of counters where you can by snacks, refreshments and souvenirs. It looked like there may have been a wedding taking place or about to take place the day I was there. There are also a couple of outdoor seating areas, where you can have the food or beverage that you purchased from the counter. It looks like they also have special events. There were some people setting up lighting and sound systems. There was a sign advertising dinner theater, presumably at the restaurant. Parking is free. You drive up the mountain and park in a clearly designated area and walk up the rest of the way. There are also surrounding hiking trails if you bring the right equipment (shoes). I'm glad I visited so I know what it's all about.

I'm also very thankful we didn't…read morepark at the bottom of the hill and hiked up to the castle ruins, I honestly would have been VERY disappointed. However the ruins itself is very interesting to walk around and also to climb. Whenever we were on our way out we grabbed a little map, and there's actually multiple stops along the mountain side that you can hike and walk to. If we had known this previously before coming here we both would have worn appropriate attire. As we were leaving a wedding was about to take place in the tiny little church by the cafe, so we couldn't take pictures inside. Overall we came just to say we've been here and done that ‍
