I went to the store to return some soccer shoes I had been trying out. Before buying, I specifically asked the salesperson if returns were allowed, and I was assured there wouldn't be an issue. I was also told I could return the shoes at any location. When I went to a different store to return them, they outright refused, wouldn't even offer store credit, and treated me terribly. The staff, who appeared to be a security guard and possibly a manager, were rude and unhelpful. This was a horrible experience, and I do not recommend this Big 5 location. If you're looking for decent customer service, avoid this store and go to another one, or possible another city--anywhere but here. If I could rate my experience it'll be a negative 1. Improvements I'd recommend would be new staff or at least training on good customer service. read more

II called to make sure Big 5 had the rounds I wanted. I spoke with Leslie, the store manager and she confirmed. I called back because I wanted to make sure I brought in the correct documents to purchase the rounds. The person was not clear so I asked, "are you saying I need to bring in ........". She said yes. When I got there, Leslie the store manager told me I needed additional documents. I said, I verified what I needed over the phone. She said, she was told I called back and the other person was trying to explain it to me. I told Leslie what I was told. She said, "this is Monday, I want to have a good day, and I don't want to argue." (A comment I believe was rude. I was misinformed and now being blamed because of it) I was trying to have a good day. I called twice to get information so I would not be wasting my time, energy, and gas. It is frustrating to do what you are told you need to do and be mis informed. Leslie did not apologize for her employees poor communication and she did not say she will provide the employee with additional training so the miscommunication does not occur with other customers. Leslie displayed poor customer service and poor management. I gave her 1 star. read more

I was going to spend about $200 there when my three year old was doing the potty dance. The manager refused to let my child use the restroom. Then when I went to return power bait I was told I can only return it with my receipt and not the card I used when I bought it. Even though I've made a return using my card before. Had questions about ammunition. Manager Leslie is rude and incompetent and could care less. She NEVER apologized for her employee who has no clue about the laws regarding ammunition. She is a terrible manager and she could care less about the mistakes made that cost me time, gas, and wear and tear on my car. i was so impressed with this location and it has a lot to do with their employer Maria. she was extremely helpful, attentive, and hard working. she helped me and went the extra mile to help with my purchases and really seemed to care a lot about it. i went on black friday weekend 11/29/20 around 5pm. i bought a trampoline and they helped me to my car with it. i then asked about a dart board, the manager went and grabbed it for me! THEN asked about another item, they were out of it. MARIA called their warehouse to check for another one and they didn't have it. she then called another store to have it transferred to this location. i couldn't believe how incredibly helpful she was. it was so refreshing leaving knowing someone cared enough to go all of those extra steps. thank you maria for being so awesome and making a future customer extremely happy coming back. read more

It's nice to have a sport specialty store in your town when your favorite department store doesn't have the equipment, apparel, or supplies that only a store like Big 5 Sporting Goods would sell. Advertised sale items are always in stock but costumer service is sometimes hit and miss. read more

Just went into Big 5 to look at guns. My boyfriend and I walked in, and the manager and cashier were talking and laughing and barely acknowledged us. We stood at the gun counter for 10 minutes without getting any assistance while the manager continued her conversation. We were the only two customers in there until their lack of customer service made us decided to go elsewhere for firearm purchases. The weird part is, since there was no one else in the store, you'd think they would want to make sales, especially on something as pricey as guns. read more

This is usually my go to Big 5 Sporting Goods store, considering it's close to my house. I usually buy my fishing gear, ammo, and fishing license from this Big 5. Customer service is always great, however on one particular occasion, when shopping around for my son's little league equipment, there was an issue with an online coupon. The manager here is a good manager. Stopped in the other day and was greeted by Bianca from the VV store! She remembered the wife and I. Had a real nice experience with her at the other store and am happy she is here at our "more local" store. I'll be coming in to get my sporting goods goodies, just because she is there!! Good to see the other positive reviews, however, we were just in this store and while it was clean and seemed well organized, the gentleman(?) clerk acted as though he just couldn't be bothered helping us. We asked where a specific item was, he just pointed and then didn't even move so we couldn't get past him. Then asked if there was a bench somewhere that we could sit to try out our item and he said no... we asked if the dressing room had a bench; he said "oh, yeah" and had someone else come over to unlock it. The manager was excellent. They elliptical we bought was a nightmare. Had to take the first one back (after assembling 3/4 of it). Got a new one. A good portion of the screws had no threads. We always try to give big five business as we use to give valley sporting good in Apple valley our business before they closed down around the big opening of dicks sporting goods. It's very hard to get customer service and we've tried again and again and sometimes getting mediocre to poor service. On previous returns that we have done we have not had a receipt or packaging but did have our credit card that we used and the accommodated us by looking it up for an exchange or store credit. Tonight however the manager Danni, refused to look it up. When speaking with my husband he told her they've done that twice before. She just said "well, they shouldn't have, you can call customer service tomorrow." Wow. We will be supporting Dicks Sporting Goods from now on. read more

Any who, this store is great and has a good selection of goods, their staff is friendly and always helpful. I do about 90% of my sporting good purchased here especially since I am part of their E-team. You just sign up for emails and they send u exclusive sales and coupons (which to me is worth it). Only down side in my opinion is the tent selection, not very big but they have a couple different styles and brands. read more

With 4 employees in the store and being passed by 2 of them, it wasn't until 15 mins of looking in one area before anyone asked if we needed anything. After we told the lady that we needed help, she gave us minimum information and left. There was another customer in the store that got more help, seemed like she was an off duty employee with her mother though. That chatted about different topics, most topics not of the store. Came when I got off work to meet a friend she was waiting 35 minutes while it looked like other people were just standing and talking, woman at the guns was rude didn't acknowledge any of the other people waiting and didn't call for help until she rang up her customer while noticing people waiting for her. I personally have never been to this big 5 but I have two retail jobs working customer service and know that's totally unacceptable. McDonald's has better customer service apparently. read more

I went to get some new shoes because earlier in the week a sales clerk said they got a new shipment in on Fridays. When I checked earlier in the week they didn't have my size and the sales person seemed like she didn't want to check in the back. After I asked she walked in the back and walked right back out. So when I went in on Friday the guy (I wish I knew his name) greeted me, asked if I needed help, told me he thought that was all they had but offered to check in the back, then he offered to check the other store. That was great customer service! I didn't have to ask him to check the back, he offered. I didn't ask him to check the other store, he offered. This is why I shop at Dicks!!! My 5 year has just started football and up until now I have done all our shopping at Dick's. I purchased a white Under Armor shirt for my son, and after brining it home we noticed it was dirty in several spots. I took it in to exchange it and the staff was EXTREAMLY rude. After explaining it was dirty and pointing out the flaws, the sales rep stated "are you sure you just didn't wear it?". What a joke. To top things off, she then called over the Manager who proceeded to check the receipt under the fraud light. So I guess I am not only a liar but a fraud as well. Obviously all too much of their attention was spent on me (a 6'4" 350 lb Hispanic male) in front of them to concern themselves with putting anyone else through the ringer. Because another customer (average sized white male) brought in his return with no tags and no receipt and received full credit. How ridiculous. With Dick's in town, Big 5 can't afford to treat their customers like crap. read more
