The information is laid out exceptionally well, easy to read and understand. It is amazing to read about his time in office, the purpose of the Senate and a lot of information regarding voting rights. This was extremely helpful to me being that I'm from a state where gerrymandering is/was in full display recently and the recent elections that took place and will take place this year. Definitely pay the Institute a visit! I don't think you will be disappointed. As I was walking out, I was asked by someone going in "was it worth it?" I said yes, but after I answered I thought only you can decide if it is "worth it" His paintings alone are worth a visit! He was a very talented artist!

Step back into 1922 when Howard Carter discovered the tomb of King Tut…read more This immersive and interactive exhibit takes about an hour long. However, I am infatuated with Egypt, and I stayed nearly 2 hours, looking at every detail of these replica artifacts. There are numerous artifacts and historical trinkets that were found within the tomb. There are videos displayed throughout the exhibit through the dynasty and different hierarchical roles within the New Kingdom. Learn about the importance of the Nile and the different roles each King played during their rule. There is a VR station at the end of the exhibit to take in up close and personal with the Tomb itself. There is also a gift shop where I purchased some interesting items I simply love this exhibit, and I would go back again

Neighbors complain about the gaggle of voyers hanging out in front of the house every night, they complain about the fact that at 10:00 pm it is like noon outside in the neighborhood... but, isn't that why the town is called "Jamaica Complain" - I love the Christmas Castle - I break into a full on grin every evening when I pass it.

It is not an amusement park ride. It is really someone's house. Where they live. And they decorate like crazy for Christmas. Essentially, that is what we're dealing with here. There's even a post card at Harvest Co-op of the JP Christmas Castle available for sale and mail to all your besties! The castle (which the architecture resembles) is adorned in lights, blow up Santas, plastic reindeer, light-up trees, candy canes, fences, snowmen, penguins, etc. etc. etc. Enjoy the spectacle; it's refreshing to see in a city that is sometimes so uptight and too worried about perfectly matching themed Christmas arrangements...boo!

OK everyone it's July and you know what that means on Revere Beach…read more Yes the sand sculpting international championship is here July 21 through July 23, 2017 make your way down to the beach to see their fantastic sand sculptures they are absolutely amazing every year Along with the sand sculptures there are usually a lot of vendors food souvenirs etc. so come on down and enjoy a whole day If you do not live in the surrounding areas and Your not familiar with how to reach Revere Beach I would highly suggest public transportation there are many stops along Revere Beach to access the sculptures you can access easily by hopping on the blue line from Boston and getting off on Revere Beach This is a world famous event and it is FREE so bring the whole family and all of your friends it's a spectacular event and a costs you nothing hopefully you'll come down and enjoy While viewing the sand castles there are also a bunch of nice businesses, bars and restaurants along the boulevard go in and say hello and enjoy I'll see you there

I was pleasantly surprised by this event…read more I will admit I was worried about the Revere crowds. My memories of Revere Beach center around Plumbers Cleavage, Tramp Stamps, and jiggling pot bellies. Fortunately this crowd was no where to be seen. It was a very diverse, international crowd. Many foreign languages being spoken. And I think I was the token blonde in the crowd. We choose to go on Sunday evening. Hoping the crowds had thinned. It was still pretty crowded. I can only imagine how crowded it would have been earlier based on the throngs of people leaving. Traffic and parking was a nightmare. We must have spent 45 minutes to go the last 1/2 mile - we had planned to park at Wonderland. Fortunately some people were leaving and we were able to snag their parking spot. We finally arrived after 7. We circled the sculptures, first on the ocean side- seeing the backs. By the time we got to the front side to circle back, the crowds had thinned even more and, though still packed, we were able to get easy photos of all the sculptures. I plan to return next year. Will probably try to go earlier in the week to see the sculptors at work. And will definitely take the T.

Many of the experiences Louisa…read morelater wrote about in Little Women happened at Wayside.The Alcott family aided at least 1 escaped slave to hide out here for a few weeks as part of the Underground Railroad. Nathaniel Hawthorne bought it in 1852, renamed it Wayside, and added the highest structure. He was now neighbors with the Alcott's who moved into the Orchard house just a 2-3 minute walk away. Emerson and Thoreau were frequent visitors and lived close by (it was said Louisa could see Walden Pond from her bedroom window at Orchard House). Just so many incredible connections of historical significance in Concord! This is designated as a National Historical landmark. It was not opened for tours when we visited in November. The website it says it's closed on all holidays as well as Aug 29-June 1, so plan ahead if you would like to go inside. Free designated parking area right across the street.

The Wayside is a historic house in Concord, Massachusetts. The earliest part of the home may date to 1717. Later it successively became the home of the young Louisa May Alcott and her family, who named it Hillside, author Nathaniel Hawthorne and his family, and children's writer Margaret Sidney. It became the first site with literary associations acquired by the National Park Service and is now open to the public as part of Minute Man National Historical Park. Louisa May Alcott is best known for her book Little Women and then the follow up Little Men. Nathaniel Hawthorne's best known works are The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables. Margaret Sidney was a children's book writer but is also known as the founder of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Alcott family used the home as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Our tour group was comprised of only a few people, and that made it easy for my friend and me to ask the guide multiple questions as we went along. She not only didn't mind the questions, but our obvious interest caused her to focus the ongoing tour on some of the things we asked about. One of the things that's very different about touring Otis House vs. many other historical houses in Boston is the fact that visitors are not confined to an area encircled by ropes. Instead you're allowed to walk around freely in the rooms, get close to the furniture, and really absorb the splendor of the house. I highly recommended that you take the time to pay a visit here!

My wife and I love to take historical house tours because they are usually pretty interesting, and it usually gives us an excuse to have a date without a lot of people talking during a movie or bothering us in general. The house was fairly large and about 2/3 of it was accessible to the public. It stared off with about a 15 minute slide show of old time Boston, which was very interesting. There were three other women on the tour with us and the tour guide was older and seemed to love what she did in her retirement years. The house was furnished with wallpaper that matched what the family had and furniture from that era. The area use to be the red light district of town, kind of the bottom end of Beacon Hill towards the North End of town. They actually moved the house back a little when they widened the road. Otis left the decorating to his wife, which was out of character for the time, and she did a wonderful job. There were a lot of sitting rooms and a huge dining room because they liked to entertain. They had a few false doors to make the rooms look even and mirrors in a lot of rooms, because it showed wealth at the time. The upper levels were more extravagant because at the time there was a great deal of dust on the street and the lower levels got a little dark. A very interesting 45 minute tour, we over head the tour guide say to another worker "They didn't ask any questions." Small complaint, if we didn't ask any questions, how about fill some of your speaking points with previously asked questions? Fun part of the day though.

this is a weird place to see a band. it's like going to see a band in a rural high school's…read moreauditorium (i went to school w/approximately 1600 students and our high school auditorium was much larger) or in your huge first year chemistry lecture. that said, i was able to see one outstanding performance by the sea and cake. i was practically in their face for a piddly $23. i had seen sam prekop in 1999 at the majestic cafe in detroit which was probably an even smaller venue (but a lot nicer as it was in a open area standing type setting). this place has...you guessed it, auditorium type seating designed to compel people to...that's right, sit. despite the weird setting for a rocking music performance, everything sounded tremendous and i left happy. there were a handful of tools who were berating people for sitting (and yelling at the band to perform their hits, uh, duh, obviously they're going to play jacking the ball, you f***tards) which reminded me of why i don't go to that many shows. my old crotchetyness wasn't having it. so like i said, unusual setting.
