Because there is no age limit to participation and because it brings ALL people together. People with disabilities don't grow out of it. They grow up and many are forgotten as they get older. Since this organizations inception in 1968 thousands of people with intellectual disabilities and without have come together. There are so many more people that we can reach. Your heart just melts to see an athelete running down the field, stop as he notices his fellow athletes behind him and join hands with them as they all cross the finish line together. The games are held throughout the year and include events in powerlifting, track, bocce ball, bowling, swimming, basketball, golf, soccer, football....one of the absolute best organizations for the number of people they reach and the community of good people they represent. Everyone is a winner!

Magical Train Ride Adventure!…read more We absolutely loved our experience on the historic Hawaiian Railway -- such a unique and beautiful way to explore Oahu's west side! From start to finish it was pure aloha vibes and family fun! Prices: Standard train ride tickets were around $18 for adults and $13 for kids (ages 2-12) (kids under 2 are free!), and we felt it was worth every penny for the experience and memories! Parking & Arrival: There's plenty of free parking right at the train station, which made arriving super easy and stress-free. We got there a little early to soak in the atmosphere before departure! Hours & Tour Times: The train runs on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with departures like 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, plus a couple of other times depending on the day -- perfect for planning your afternoon. Length & Route: The whole ride is about 90 minutes round-trip, slowly chugging through scenic parts of Oahu's Leeward coast with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. The narration from the guide made the ride even more interesting! Stops & Fun: One of the best parts was the ice cream stop in Ko Olina -- we all hopped off for a cool treat at a little plaza and waved to neighbors along the way! Photo Ops Everywhere: There were so many spots perfect for photos -- seaside views, cute vintage train cars, and open-air seating made for great candid shots! Plus, we barely saw anyone else there during our ride, so it felt like we had the whole adventure to ourselves. Tips: * Arrive early to grab good seats and explore the train yard * Bring a camera (or phone!) -- the scenery is AMAZING * Don't forget a little extra cash for ice cream! It's a slow-paced easy ride with a narration of the area's past history and current status. Once the train entered onto the Ko Olina property the views were beautiful, especially up the sea cost. Passengers on both sides of the railcars switch seats to provide equal viewing opportunities. The seats are hard wood, so bring cushions. Overall a nice diversion and unique way to see the leeward (west) coastline of Oahu. Good for children especially. Staff very hospitable.

It's known by females on the street as a safe place to live for free up to three months if you are homeless. They get approximately $700 per body so they try to keep the house full. The people in charge are real idiots and the girls in the house are extremely troubled and catty. Go to any other dv shelter if possible because this one sucks, it feels like a prison. The only good thing is it's fully air conditioned.

It isn't only cleanups, they handle restoration and land management by preservation, teaching, and so much more. Kimeona and his team are well versed and well organized in what they are doing. They have equipment so when you arrive, after you fill out the documents online, you are ready to go. Of course prepare by getting a good meal in you, staying hydrated, bring water (they also supply water but bring your reusable water bottle), comfortable clothes and shoes, and be prepared to "give back"! I love learning history and culture and the oli and taking care of the Aina. I don't want to give away too much, but at the same time I want to share everything. I have been volunteering with this team, mostly at the same place, although I met up at Magic Island and it needed, for a couple of years. My takeaways, it's personal for me.

We decided to pay our respect to the land that we enjoyed by helping clean it. This organization was more about teaching what is around us versus just picking up garbage. We first removed evasive trees along the river. The cool thing was that we moved the branches to a different area that feeds certain Beatles. Then months after the tress/branches were stepped on and crushed to be part of the earth. After about an hour and half of work we took a little environmental tour to learn of the necessary ecological balance needed for the islands. Over 35 years…read more That's the amount of time it took for me to come to Hawaii Okinawa Center (HOC). Opened in June 1990, HOC was built in recognition of the Okinawan immigrants to Hawaii. Born and raised in Hawaii, there is a strong Okinawan community celebrating many events. Although some may think of the distance to this venue, it's a little over 25 mins from town. I recently came to HOC to celebrate a relative's wedding. I was quite impressed with this venue as it's quite spacious with multiple entrances. Although 35 years have passed the interior was simple but bright for this joyous occasion. Food, drinks and entertainment were all arranged by the families so you get to select the theme and create the atmosphere you wish. It was a casual wedding reception that was able to facilitate about 400 people. It was a Hawaiian themed menu where the buffet line was controlled by the steward who escorted attendees by tables. Venue was large enough to have multiple stations providing food, dessert, drinks and entertainment. I initially was planning to partake in the photo booth but the lines were too long so I ended up passing. So why not 5-stars? The venue could have been updated more for a more modern vibe. Also, the parking lot cannot accommodate large scale events so regardless we arrived before the event, many of us had to seek street parking and then walk over. Overall, I found HOC a fairly decent venue for a get together. I wouldn't hesitate to RSVP to another event at this spot. The drive over from town is tolerable and once again, a great facility to bring people together for an occasion.

Letting go of my treasures…read more.. As shopping at your local Goodwill you'll find some other's treasure. There comes a moment when I just need to purge to make room and create a relaxing space as though certainly not unwanted but items that has long been useful or needed and is in my opinion great items that hopefully will find home versus the landfill especially at reasonable cost. As the holiday seasons are slowly approaching is obvious with a section filled with Halloween decor and such items are a one time use it's nice to find price friendly deals. This Kapolei location is located on a road behind Costco amongst many industrial buildings and seems to be sharing the same lot with a school but since it was on a Sunday the parking lot was empty though filled with shoppers as many come here to shop and the donation drop off is the building right beside the store and is a very easy drop as a staff came up to me to help with the items. I had to give the shop a peek and see what they have and did find a small item that interested me and at the bargain price of $3.99 was amazing and will go into great use. Lots of clothing and seasonal items displayed making a great place to find options that are price friendly. Thank you!

Clear posted signage in the store about pricing and the daily color (which is 50% off). I docked stars because the store has posted signs for womens, mens, kids, etc but the racks themselves are so unorganized. Most of the clothes are off the hangers, tangled amongst themselves, or just in the wrong section. So much to look at but the racks are stuffed. I only noticed a small Target section, which is where outdated items go FYI, so that was disappointing. Would recommend if youre in the area but please note that lots of people shop here so the racks may be picked over.
