Big City Optical is Big on using deceptive consumer practices! They have a NO REFUND policy, however nowhere on their website nor in their stores is this posted! My original sales breakdown had nothing stating anything about exchanges, refunds etc, nothing! Nowhere! They also fail to verbally inform you of this, which by law they need to disclose, not after you have made a purchase on a receipt, it NEEDS to be posted in the store so folks can see and READ it and verbally stated as well, not a small print on a doctored receipt they made up and provided me with after I told them they were using deceptive practices. Happened to me in which I went in for my contacts and hard core sales arming stated to buy glasses as my insurance provided $110.00 towards frames. Spent nearly $500.00 on glasses, picked them up, wore them the next day only to have two HUGE blisters on each side of my nose from the indentations from a poor, ill fitting WRONG size nose bridge that was sold to me. When I called and told them I was returning them, sent them a picture of my huge bleeding blisters, stated how much in pain I was, I was told they will fixed them LOL, like okay, they do not fit, I have scars on my face 3 weeks later and they refused to issue a refund and basically told me to buy a pair of sunglasses with the $500.00 that they will not refund! They also are shady as they put a claim through my EyeMed insurance for $110.00 which they kept and failed to contact them to have this reversed in case I decide to go to a REAL Customer focused store instead of a Money, greed business who puts profits before customer safety, satisfaction and service first to buy another pair. I cannot do this since they falsely used my allowance this year even though the frames/glasses were returned. So they kept the $110.00 and have not notified eyeMed that I returned the frames and glasses. They state that they are custom and cannot refund, So how does WARBY PARKER have such a fantastic customer forward excellent policy? They refund 100% - but Big City optical will not refund me for plastic frames that are NOT custom, came off of their shelf, yet they refused to refund me although I returned the frames the next day. They were placed back on the shelf to be sold to another unknowing customer. As stated a No Refund policy must be disclosed at the time of purchase not after, verbally, on a website and on a poster in stores, Big City Optical does not, I have reported them to the BBB as well as other regulatory agency for deceptive practices. Run, don't walk from these money hungry thieves, they could care less about you, your health or your satisfaction. I should have listened to my sister and went to Warby Parker, she has had EXCELLENT service from the, they are transparent and offer 100% Customer satisfaction to include- GUESS WHAT???? A REFUND!!!! I really wanted to like this company as it's conceniently close to me and enjoyed the eye exam however there are 3 things that will deter me from coming back. 1. The pressure was felt a little hard when deciding on buying 1 frame vs 2. It took a little while for the sales rep to be ok with me just wanting 1 frame. 2. The frame i bought cost $300 but it was very light so I liked it. Within 3 months the hinge where the temples (piece that goes to ear) connect to lens fell off. These glasses don't use screws so pretty much I was told the glue came off. I was told to put crazy glue however held off due to better judgement as I had a feeling warranty wouldn't cover it if it did. Long story short by the time I came in to pick new lenses (as mine were discontinued) I was told their warranty policy changed and I now had to pay $50 for new lens and $50 for frame. No thank you. 3. When I asked about the glasses leaving dark marks on my nose and how I can fix it, I was told they had never heard of that before and couldn't give me advice. I've been wearing glasses for years and never had this issue before. Overall bad experience for these $300 frames, aside from the eye exam which was pleasant. I'll be returning to vision works where I have been shopping for years with no issues (don't change what isn't broken). read more

Really bad service. Wasted my time. Glasses are overpriced and their "lab" filled the prescription wrong then made me wait for one guy from another store to process the return. I went to Big City Optical's Anderson North location because they are in-network for my insurance, have fashionable frames, and are close by. The exam and explanations of what's going on with my eyes were terrific. Amanda helped me choose frames that would complement my face. I got the impression she truly enjoys that part of her job as she very tactfully steered me toward flattering shapes and colors. When I returned to pick up my glasses, Amanda was already with another customer, but Jay took fantastic care of me, ensuring the glasses were clean and fit well and that I was happy with them. read more

First and foremost I would like to say this place despite it not having a parking lot has plenty of street parking available. When I walked in the Female employees greeted me with a friendly smile and I was super impressed with the eye wear selection. Angelica did a great job styling me with my new pair of glasses and Mayra was fantastic at telling me what the cost would be after my insurance benefits. I felt like Mayra and Angelica knew my style before I even knew what I wanted. I also got to meet the doctor who was super sweet and friendly. I'm so happy I came here for my eye glasses. There are lots of frames to choose from with a variety of prices, for me I went with some super cute Gucci transition glasses that looked amazing I can't wait for my new glasses to come in. Please be VERY careful with this merchant. They are super friendly, seem kind, and attentive, but they will gouge you on the back end and will doctor invoices! I had provided my HRA a copy of the invoice that I received from the manager, Mayra, via email . HRA folks said the numbers did not add up. When I took a closer look, I realized they didn't. I had tried, repeatedly, to work with their office via phone and email. At one point, Rudy (sales rep) told me my charges, less VSP discounts, were only $1,125.16 - but when I told him I was charged $2008.81 in total - he said it wasn't possible. I asked him to have his manager call me - she did not. I called again expressing an urgency as interest was accumulating and I needed reimbursement. I reminded them that Mayra/Manager had emailed me the original DIGITAL copy of the invoice which clearly shows the $1.125.16 as my TOTAL balance due. When Mayra finally called me, she said the discrepancy was due to an eye exam, when I told her I walked in with prescription in hand, she said she would review and call me back. No surprise when she DID NOT. At this point, it was beyond clear that this location was shady, shady, shady and they do NOT care about their clients once the money is in their pockets. So I filed a dispute with my Discover card. I had to do it twice because the reps didn't understand that I wasn't disputing the product or the service, but that I was OVER CHARGED. But of course Big Business takes care of business and hard-working, honest people be damned. And when Big City Optical provided Discover with a *****DOCTORED INVOICE**** with the $1,125.16 WHITED OUT, Discover found in favor of Big City Ripoff. I have all the proof anyone would require. At this point I'm writing the review, will reach out to the BBB, and will spread the word on how this location treats their clients in the hope that NO ONE else falls victim to this terrible scammy and unethical 'business'. I really didn't want to write this review. I've given Big City Optical more than a few chances to remedy the situation and they absolutely refuse to make this problem right. I liked my eye doctor and exam just fine but the issue lies in a big way with the retail portion of my experience. They're selling you the display glasses, not new glasses. I've never seen this happen in any reputable place. I received scratched glasses that were all stretched out. When they offered to remedy this it took nearly a month and then they handed me filthy finger print covered glasses. I asked them to clean them up and bring them back. Boom - another scratched pair. The third time they were still a wreck and they refused any remedy. The frames were out of stock and I could take the scratched ones - no other option. Since then, I worked with my credit card company and was able to get my money back through their fraud department (bc Big City is a big fraud). Big City threatened litigation but my credit card company said they didn't have a leg to stand on since I left the damaged glasses with them. Nothing ever came from it. I never was going to write this review but after MULTIPLE requests to be removed their mail/email/text lists I STILL receive endless messages. So here you go - stop spamming me. You're the worst business ever. read more

After several years of avoiding, going to an optometrist & getting new glasses, I finally decided to check this place out. I was glad they were in my Insurance as a Network Provider. I had several comprehensive scans & was treated very well by the entire staff. I finally picked out a nice pair of glasses & proceeded with the prescription ,trying on the glasses/etc. My next pleasant surprise was excellent discount I was able to utilize via my insurance. it was NOT the horrible experience I has in the past with Major Eyeglass places. everything was very professional, Dr Yesenia Magallanes was extremely competent & made every effort to diagnosis my vision & issues Thanks again to the whole staff & to Brenda K, Optician for all your hard work! read more

Yesterday I had my first eye exam at Big City Optical. The staff was friendly and my eye exam was thorough. The woman who helped me select frames was very helpful and very pleasant. I found frames that I liked and were flattering. When I was checking out I was informed that the out of pocket cost of my glasses would be $470. This is the cost after insurance. (I have a VSP plan and Big City Optical is considered a "Premier Clinic" where you get the best value. I chose not to purchase the glasses and asked for my prescription. It was clear that the girl who was helping me was not pleased with my decision. i thanked her for her help and she chirped back with "Bye!" When I returned home, I went on the VSP website and saw that they worked with Eyeconic.com. I logged on there and found the exact frames. I ordered my progressive prescription and added the anti-glare and blue light options. THE TOTAL OUT OF POCKECT COST WAS $149.00!!!!!! Bottom line is the service was good but their products are vastly overpriced. It pays to shop around. read more

Unfortunately, today's experience wasn't so great! I walked in, to an employee scrolling on a cell phone. No welcome, no greet at all! The manager Mayra began to assist me. Very pleasant, good vibe and nice attitude. Got to a point in my visit, where I had to deal with the young man I previously observed on his cell phone. He attempts to explain my insurance benefit details and copay info. Very bad energy with the lack of human connection. Perhaps he'd rather be on the cell phone, than helping a paying customer...not sure why the attitude. However, very poor listening skills. He didn't understand what I was seeking. He was only listening to respond and not to understand. This was frustrating and disappointing to say the least. I went to the back with the doctor, whom was very pleasant, paying close attention to my needs and concerns. I did make her aware of the gentleman and the interaction we had. His delivery was poor, his willingness to help and understand was poor, and his customer service skills were very poor! They had some frames that I REALLY want so I moved forward, with the assistance from the manager, while the gentleman went back to the corner on his phone. Needless to say, once my frames are in, that'll probably be the last time I consider myself a customer. I like to spend my money where I feel it's welcomed and where there is good energy and people who are attentive to the customer and their needs. read more

I went here once a few years ago. I was quoted $350 to replace the lenses on my Prada frames. I left my frames and when I went to pick them up, the total cost was over $700. When I asked about the discrepancy, the person told me it was $350 per LENS. I think they see insurance as a license to charge wtf they want. Go to Costco instead. read more

This place was great! I've been wearing glasses since second grade, and with a proscription in the double digits plus a proscription that usually costs ($450 for just the lens alone) I'm a hard customer to satisfy. For the last 10 years I've just gotten glasses out of necessity bc I honestly knew I'd never wear them unless I was sick or at home alone. However, I went here for the first time and I was happily surprised that one of their staff Members (Pablo) helped me find the PERFECT pair to maximize aesthetic and minimize the look of my coke bottle lenses! I'll wear these in public any day! Plus I ordered these in Pilsen and their Manager Julia was so accommodating in shipping them to a more convenient location in Lakeview! 10/10 would recommend and would go back again! read more

You can tell when a doctor actually cares about their profession and patients and she is a prime example. I came in to ask the turn around time for glasses not expecting to be able to be seen for an appointment. Dr. Rasa ended up having a no show and she was able to see my daughter before her next appointment. We expressed how she wanted to try contacts but she wasn't sure how to put them on. The said they would do a training and she had to be able to put them on and take them off by herself before they would even let her walk out with them. They explained everything so thoroughly and had the best customer service. After my daughter picked out frames I was going to schedule my appointment and they spoke with Dr. Rasa and she said if I was able to wait til her next appointment was finished she could see me. They started my appointment past 6:40 & even tho they closed at 7, I was not rushed out of there. The staff there is great! The prices are a little bit up there but they have great specials that makes up for it. I will forever be a loyal customer. read more

Unfortunately I had a very bad experience at the chic looking Big City Optical. I had a vein burst in my eye and my insurance communicated that Big City Optical would be able to cover my visit. I went to this location in between classes that I teach to youth to get it checked out. I handed my insurance card to the receptionist and she was firm explaining that my visit would not be covered by my insurance because my type of visit wasn't eligible. I had an hour before teaching an art class so I decided to move forward with the visit for the sake of knowing what was going on with my eye. Dr. Rasa took care of the visit and although he was polite, I am extremely disappointed that he and his staff charged me $80 for my visit knowing that I had insurance that definitely covered my visit. Dr. Rasa wanted me to come back after a week for a follow up and mentioned that the visit would be an additional $20-$40 since my insurance wouldn't begin to cover my visits until June 2018. I called my insurance to ask what was going on and after an extensive research session, they demanded that Big City Optical return my funds. I went back to this location to finalize the reimbursement and saw that there was a dog inside this establishment. I believe it belonged to the the doctor's partner and I thought it was disgusting because there are patients out there who are allergic to pets, so why would an animal be allowed inside an eye doctor's office? I DO NOT RECOMMEND nor trust Big City Optical because they lied to me and aren't fully aware/educated about the insurance policies related to this establishment.
