Hilo is a fun town to walk around and explore the side streets. On our last visit we remembered going to a book store that wasn't welcoming or friendly, but thankfully we found this one that ended up being the opposite. We loved our time here and I even found a treasure. Big Island BookBuyers is a used book store of all genres. Hawaiiana is right at the front, with books about local interest sure to entice. They also have other media like movies. Fiction is toward the back with towering wooden shelves and fun displays like book & movie selections. The cashier was friendly and welcoming. The even had a restroom for customers, that was super clean and nice; sometimes you just need one on your walking adventures. Prices on most books are 1/2 of the cover price, unless otherwise marked on the inside cover. This is worth checking out for any bibliophile.

Found an adorable Hilo bookstore neatly filled with a variety of titles. It is almost at the end of Hilo towns main drag. There is a clean bathroom for customers inside. Park on the street if u r driving. I enjoy finding small book stores. This bookstore has Hawaiiana, national, fun, romance etc. My sister found a book on glass, glass blowing and designing which she does as a hobby and she never saw the book before in other national bookstores.

Classic. Cover art by Pegge Hopper so I had to have it.

Buy, sell, trade! This cute little store has been one of my favorites to support. I went to a few others nearby and hands down enjoyed the selection here most. Above all, the space and books are CLEAN. The other used bookstores I perused were not so much; I had to dust off the books. Don't get me wrong, I love a sloppy used bookstore if it's charming and it almost always is. I visit a bookstore at least once a month, and if I'm traveling to a new destination I try to check out multiple stores in the area and then support my favorite one if/when I return. And what I love about used bookstores is the ability to trade or donate reads you don't want to (or can't) hold onto, so it's like the books are traveling too. :) You can also find new books here, intriguing topics out of your wheelhouse, and of course some highly acclaimed award winners. I like the staff's picks at the start of the Literary Fiction section. And don't miss the rare or out of print books behind the check out desk. Maybe we have the same taste or style (the bookstore owner and me) and my bias is there. I really do love this collection. That's what it is: a collection carefully curated by an enthusiast. A pleasant and knowledgeable owner. Don't hesitate to ask her anything, she's very helpful and polite. Adoring this place as I check out the pretty little books I purchased! Thank you thank you!

Let a book inspire you with some wise words and a good tale.

If you are a bookworm like my daughter, well this is the place for you. They have such a variety of new, old and in between selection. It seems like a small shop but we were there for a good 30 minutes if not more. Strolling among the hallways and looking at titles that caught my eye. My daughter was loving it and we left with a couple of books. The one I was looking for and another that we didnt know about . Overall I recommend this bookstore. Dont need to call ahead to see if they have the book you want; because even if they don't, you may find a hidden gem among their shelves.

I love this bookstore! I'm a total booknerd who enjoys being surrounded by books of every sort, so no matter where I travel, a stop at a neighborhood bookstore is a must. Although I listen to a lot of audio books these days in the car, I still really enjoy reading a physical book in bed. I always feel like buying a book on vacation is like meeting a new friend and getting to bring them home with you. Big Island BookBuyers is stuffed to the brim with great used books at 50% off retail and surprisingly well organized. The Hawaiiana section at the front has a great selection if you're visiting the islands and wanting to learn more about the history and culture. I fell in love with the personal development section and my husband had to eventually pull me away because we had several other stops to make during our day in Hilo. The owner greets you at the front and she's so nice! You can tell she really loves reading books and enjoys running her store. I'll definitely be back again to pick up some new friends during my next vacation!

We stopped here because our kids had run out of reading material on our vacation. We were all delighted about finding Big Island BookBuyers. The prices are low and the selection is vast-classics, Newberry Award winners, graphic novels, series, and more for the kids. While my kids struggled to choose just a few titles, I enjoyed thumbing through random, older kids' books with their covers depicting life in the 1990s. They also carry plenty of fiction and DVDs, calendars and more. I was tempted to buy The Goonies DVD but my husband reminded me that our kids are not ready for that yet, or we aren't ready to try to explain that storyline when they can't sleep after watching it. Helpful and friendly staff and an ideal location right by the waterfront.
