The food did not disappoint with the homestyle cooking. The small chicken fried steak was delicious and could serve two people. You will not leave hungry. Stopped for lunch while passing through. The place is made up to look like an old shack. Inside it is well decorated to match the theme. I was greeted by the most helpful waitress/hostess. I saw this cute restaurant on many trips from Dallas area to Houston and I was so glad that we were finally able to visit on our way to Port Aransas. The service is friendly and it seems like most of the customers are regulars and know the staff by name as they were giving compliments to the chef! The atmosphere was so cool with the rustic appeal and downhome attitude. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and my husband ordered the hamburger steak special. Both were delicious....however, we started out with the onion rings and they were definitely homemade and really delicious. Those were devoured. Went here for a business dinner on Thursday 01/09/25 with a group of 6. The waitress was not only attentive but very polite. She tended to our table very well and checked on us frequently. The service here was excellent ! The food was some of the best in the area. Their steaks are fire cooked and in my opinion the best restaurant steak I've ever had and I travel with work often. So, this speaks volumes. I will definitely make it a point to come back as their entire menu is great and their service is above great! read more

Great place to go eat on the road passing through. Make sure you check hours before going because they are closed on some weekdays. Food is the best I have had in about an hour radius. Awesome place to get chicken fried steak. Hubby had that and sides and I had a steak finger basket with fries. It was delicious. Cute place and the lady in charge was very nice. They make fresh pies I. House and we had the snickerdoodle which was still warm as she just made the pies. The restroom was a little tiny so maybe not a wheelchair accessible location. This place is small on Highway 59 south of Diboll in Lufkin between Houston and Nacogdoches. We almost missed it but I saw a bunch of cars outside and made me think that it might be worth checking out. It's a very small place, really a dive, as the title suggests. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I've had and as a native Texan who frequently Grades chicken fried steak I can say this was one of the best. The meat was fresh, the breading was just right, not too much. It was extremely tasty. I highly recommend this place. They were families there and people from the community and you could tell that everybody there really enjoyed what they had and enjoyed being there. read more

This place is about 20 min or so past Livingston. She ain't pretty on the outside and depending on how people park, it may be difficult getting in/out of your vehicle. This place is great though and worth the challenges. This is a mom and pop place, my favorite kind. I was out in the area and a friend recommended it as do I. It's a country cooking place. I had a Ribeye steak and my daughter ordered a double cheese burger with bacon. The lady asked if she was sure if she wanted a double, she said yes. When it came out, it was huge. We honestly could have split it and be satisfied. My steak came a second later. It was topped with some herbed butter, and cooked a perfect med rare. My daughter and I ordered a basket of fries, I asked for the potato casserole. I am not a huge fan of things like that, but it was tasty and I would get it again. Both the burger and steak were cooked perfect and both tastes great. The servers were attentive and gracious hosts. It would be a great place to head out to after a nice motorcycle ride around the lake although I was pretty full after the meal and I am not sure how that would be on the ride home. If you are out there or near there, take a chance, I don't believe you will regret it. I don't and I look forward to a bigger steak next time. read more

Double burger delivered with cheese. Not a deal breaker but disappointed, does not like cheese on burgers. Nevertheless, these burgers were big, hot, juicy and delicious. The bun was grilled, the bread of quality where it did not fall apart while eating or dissolve into mush. The patties were large. Burger assembled well. Fries were crinkle type, over fried but not full of grease. Ordered the coconut cream pie and it was a fail. Very heavy, texture was not what expected. Crust white on edged not crisp. Pepsi products for drinks. Ok for us as I drink Dew and he likes Pepsi. Waitress was OK. She was a bit overwhelmed when a huge group arrived.....yes around corner and not in any of these pics is more dining space. Overall I would return to eat here again. The restaurant itself is very plain, but has a number of dining areas. There is a salad bar and all three meals are served on the four days a week they are open. Service is very friendly and prices are moderate. Menu includes char-grilled steaks and fresh seafood. They also have beer and wine. Selections vary a bit, but I have posted the full current menu. Don't let the looks of this place fool ya, these folks can cook! I had the special (beef tips in brown gravy over rice with a side of green beans and fried okra). I am really going to try to work on copying that recipe. First trip to this "dive" that turned out to be a homey, friendly restaurant with exceptional service. Big Jake cooks the steaks to perfection. All steaks are hand-cut CHOICE grade and cooked over a wood fire, which results in a tender, juicy steak eating experience. Yum! The flavor on my 14oz ribeye was incredible. Sides were solid. The ranch potatoes are much like a twice-baked potato flavor. Green beans had an old-school slight vinegar twang that cut through the fat of the steak and taters. Salad was FRESH and crisp. Don't sleep on the fried quail y'all. Tender and fried to a beautiful golden color, hot from the fryer! You won't even need any ranch or BBQ sauce. Well I can't wait to go back. This small comfort food eatery in the tiny town of Moscow, Texas is a hidden gem. The food is consistently great. At lunch, they have burgers and sandwiches and chicken fried steak. At night they have steaks cooked on a grill out back, fish, and other goodies not available at lunch. Last year they cooked us a special meal for an anniversary, a 14 ounce ribeye for my husband and a seafood stuffed red snapper for me. It was all delicious. They are now open after the pandemic closure. We stopped in for burgers recently at lunchtime, and really enjoyed those also. Don't forget to order the onion rings. read more

This was a really bad dining experience. Went into an empty restaurant around 10am for breakfast. No one was there. I walked backed to the kitchen area and the cook didn't even know if they were serving breakfast or not. The cook went to find the server and then I was seated. No one offered to wear a mask even though I was wearing one. Ordered the big breakfast. The potato home fries were very good as was the buscuit with sausage gravy. The scrambled eggs were a shade of light brown instead of yellow - maybe they were cooked in bacon or sausage grease...regardless, the looked unappetizing. I did try one bite and they were inedible. The worst part of the entire visit - the terrible smell in the restaurant. Strong smell of burnt kitchen grease. It was in my mask and in my clothes. I splashed water in my nose and that helped a little. The putrid smell stayed in my clothes the rest of the day. So while a couple of the food items were OK, I cannot give a rating higher than two stars because I would never return to this place nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more
