I ordered the house special Cansi Steak, yes, I thought it was quite delicious... quite delicious indeed! You know in the Philippines there's this tradition of having some pulutan when you drink and this totally rocked it, hit the spot with my martinis. In SM City mall, it's attractive looking in a spartan way, and offers moderate-sized soups for about 300 pesos (somewhat mahal). Ordered the minced pork meatball soup (tantan tonkotsu) with medium-sized narrow noodles that included their special shoyu sauce with sesame and chilli oils for some heat (spicy). And an ajitama (mild soft boiled egg). It came in a half-filled largish bowl that was disappointing but good for the waist, I guess. But it's a chain and the bland non-descript aftertaste attests to that. Given the smallish quantity for a pricy soup that didn't really stand out except for hotness, I can only give this first time around only 2.5 stars. My wife and I will return some day and try a couple more dishes, but I'd asked for the spiciest soup, and it and the egg disappointed. Always wanting something to hit things right, seems extremely hard to find here. For the flavour and money, try Troi Oi down and close on the Esplanade/Boardwalk area. Far more satisfying with far more choices that makes it a 5-star Vietnamese venue. Ikkoryu? Ah, although decent, just another chain failing to get flavour, quantity and price right. Their food is great and serve very fair portion sizes, but what i come here for really is the bakery area. I always get one thing, and its the favorite of my entire family. I dont remember the exact name, but i think its called the Cheese Crunchy. I always buy 10 at a time. This in particular has really nice soft yet crunchy texture and the cheese isnt melted, but its very soft. When I visit, I always come here to buy enough that will last a few days and then i buy more before I leave.

Salpicao was tender, and the fried isul was pretty good. Overall, service was good but not as good as it was decades ago when it was more personal. However, food was also good but competition from newer restaurants have made it somewhat mediocre. Even so, Bob's will remain a staple in this city, especially for those of us who grew up coming to Bob's.

The chicken is sold in parts and I wish I'd ordered two, but being a light eater, I was conservative, and that was fine. The rice was great, but with all the sauces and peppers, this blows the top off the dining experience. Don't just take it from me. Expectations have to be lowered for cleanliness, location, parking, etc. After all, Chicken Inasal is what people come here for. There is no air conditioner so be prepared for that. The place gets crowded during dinner time so come early. TIP: Bring a roll of paper towel. Use it to wipe your hands after you wash before and after eating. Price is competitive and service is good despite being busy. I would be back every time I'm in town.
