Holy crap! Riding in an ORV (off-road vehicle) is a lot of fun. I say this after the fact, now that I am back home and currently not riding in an ORV.
You see, I'm not the ideal ORV consumer. I am a neurotic person by nature. I'm a person who does not like being outdoors, who does not like "adventure" or any hint of danger, a person who does not like bears, and a person who does not like having to watch a safety movie before participating in an activity, because that only means that the activity that I'm about to participate in is not entirely safe. But after my off-road adventure with Bigfoot Epic Adventures, I might change my mind about all that. (OK, probably not, but I still had a great time.)
Bigfoot Epic Adventures is where we rented ORV vehicles for a couple of hours when we visited northern Michigan. Our vehicles had GPS navigation installed, so we could program them to go wherever we wanted. But Bigfoot has a few different trails they like, so we took one of the trails that they suggested, which had us going all through the forest, over bridges, and into the nearby town.
Northern Michigan is very wooded, and where there are woods, there are bears. I literally hate bears with all of my being, so I told the lady at Bigfoot, straight up, "I'm afraid of bears. How many bears am I going to have to fight off during my 'fun' ORV adventure?" And the lady, bless her heart, tried not to laugh in my face while reassuring me that she had never seen a bear in all of her years of being out on an ORV in the woods. Whew! That made me feel a little better as I ventured out on my ORV trip. And you know what? I saw zero bears during my trip into the woods. I didn't even see any bears when we stopped for a couple of minutes in the middle of the woods to take break. In retrospect, the ORV experience was a lot of fun. If you're afraid of bears like I am, I would say to you: Don't be afraid. Go ahead and get on that ORV, because most likely, you will not have to fight off any bears.
The person that I worked with at Bigfoot was very professional, and she made sure our safety was at the forefront of our trip. We had to watch a safety movie before we headed out, and we were provided with safety gear and instructions before we left. All in all, our ORV rental was very safe! read more
