Came here with friends after work and maybe the day we went was an off day. To give some positive note, the ambiance of this place is superb. It's a small sized restaurants with lots of color - a bit of a vintage feel. Service was not the best. Our server seemed really tired with their day - completely understandable. I was handed menus and other utensils by my server as if I were supposed to be serving my own table - which I thought was weird, but dismissed it cause the food looked good on Yelp. It seems as if no one in my group particularly enjoyed their food. My steak, which I asked for medium-rare, was a bit too rare - not a big deal. However, the sauce it came with had the weirdest consistency - something like the snot you would have when you're sick in bed. It was a little flavorless with a hint of wine. The truffle fries redeemed the place a little bit, but the fries seem chopped up for some reason - something to consider if you like your fries longer. read more

After a long travel day with a delayed flight we arrived tired and hungry and a bit messy but we were greeted warmly and seated immediately by the team at this cute place just down the street. We shared three dishes and enjoyed them all: yogurt and herbs with pita (refreshing cool dip with warm pita) the chopped salad (perfectly chopped and dressed) and Persian chicken salad sandwich with fries (sooooo good!). When I accidentally ordered a 2nd glass of wine from 2 different servers they let me have the extra on the house. Classy! Highly recommend this lovely spot. We will return :) read more

We went to enjoy some Persian food. I was excited to try a new spot. But What we got was a mediocre brunch with no Persian dishes on the menu. My Bf and I ordered the Bijan burger and a cocktail. For the price both items came to $27 each which isnt bad. Their dinner menu didn't start until 5 pm so we couldn't try their Persian food. 2 items were actually Persian and the rest were all american food. Furniture was outdated and was cash only. Trent, Alexander, Bijan, Xia and of course Jahan himself (who skunked me on a chess board!) are wonderful people. We recently had lunch at Bijan's over the 4th of July holiday weekend. The atmosphere, food and service was exemplary! What I think makes Bijan's innovative among it's competitors is intention used to fuse Persian and American flavors on a menu that is healthy and satiating. Everything is made from scratch using the freshest ingredients and irresistibly plated. Bijan's staff is a family affair. You feel people care about all aspects of food and service here because their name is on the sign. Recipes on the menu are from the owners family. The tiramisu is homemade by his wife and should NOT be missed! The homemade cocktails are as inspired as the food! I ended my meal with Persian mint tea steeped in house, a perfect ending. After landing from a flight was looking to grab a quick bite. Bijan's got great reviews so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the beef Kabob plate, I was so disappointed to see my food was burnt when I opened the box. I tried the meat and it was incredibly dry with no flavor and tasted burnt just as the way it looked. Shirazi salad usually has onions in it and other spices and this one only had tomatoes and cucumbers. After a second bite of the meat, I saw a hair coming out of my kabob! I felt so sick and was so disappointed with the quality of the food and obviously did not take another bite. I tried to call and let them know and none of the phone numbers for them work. Very average brunch. My boyfriend and I stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was empty. I think that should have been a sign because most brunch spots are poppin' from 11am-2pm. Well it was not at Bijan's. The music was also super loud for a 12:30pm brunch. They were playing club music and finally lowered it when a family came in because they had a baby. The decor was very hippy/save the planet feel. They had communal tables and a lot of plants. I gave 2 stars mostly for the server. She was very kind and attentive. Now for the food: - I ordered the breakfast pizza and asked for the eggs to be over easy. I thought everyone knew you don't cook the yolk for over easy eggs! The chef there did not because my eggs were well done and it was not nice on the breakfast pizza. I was hoping there would be some egg porn action and it would be all creamy and delicious with my pizza but no, it was way overcooked and not what I envisioned at all. -My boyfriend being his basic self ordered the eggs with sausage and it came with potatoes and toast. When the food came the kitchen messed up and gave him really overcooked bacon. I mean we all like crispy bacon, but not like disintegrating bacon...The server was kind enough to just add the sausage on the side. His scramble eggs did not look appetizing either. Sigh it was such a disappointing meal. I mean at least we didn't have to wait long for food. Maybe dinner is better? We sat down and it took a while for us to get menus. ok. not a big deal. The waiter took our order but never brought us water. He was filling the water on the other tables multiple times. Was it because we ordered drinks? OK. that's not a big deal either. Then the waiting began. The drinks came about 15 min later. Then, after what felt like forever, ONE of 2 of the appetizers came out. We flagged down the waiter to have him check on the order. He said it was coming out soon. It never came. Then, ONE HOUR later, we flagged down the waiter again, and he said the entrees would be out soon. Note, we've been at the restaurant for almost 2 hours at this point and only got drinks and 1 appetizer. During our wait, I noticed TWO tables just walk away because they weren't being serviced. Suddenly, another waiter (probably the manager) noticed something was wrong. He came out and asked us how we were doing and we alerted him about the long wait time. Suddenly, everything was operating like a normal restaurant again. The food came out within the next 10 minutes. We told him one of the appetizers never came so he rushed it out on the house. Now, on to the food. I didn't try the calamari but the persian spiced wings were decent and the drinks were good. They have some inventive cocktails and the flavors are tasty. But on to the entrees - I had asked the waiter if he recommended the persian kabobs or the salmon and he suggested the kabobs, which were honestly terrible. The meat had an odd crumbly texture and the beef tasted a bit.. old? I also tried the pappardelle which had no flavor and dry chicken. Ever since Bijan's opened up six years ago, happy days are here again. Literally: one time I walked in and Happy Days was playing on the TV. Fonzie aside, I'm STILL so happy Bijan's is here. It's no longer the new bar on the block, but the seasoned vet that's got regulars, understands our quirks, and gives the neighborhood what it needs. The vibe is intimate, but casual. The music is always good, which makes it the perfect place to kick off your night with a quiet drink, especially since happy hour is very solid. Best of all, the kitchen is open (and has been, these past 5.5 years), and the food is solid across the board. Brunch is a solid deal (cocktail, food, coffee, juice, all for $17), and the dinner menu has enough variety that everyone can find something to eat. They've got burgers and flatbreads and mezze (they lean a little Middle Eastern), but in my opinion, you can't go wrong with chicken. The Persian-spiced wings are done right, and the rosemary, lime, sumac chicken is a staple of my diet. Both sound more exotic than they are; the latter is just a perfectly roasted airline breast over haricot verts and truffle mashed potatoes, with a lovely pan sauce to tie it all together. It's a full, balanced, excellent meal for under $20. Enjoy it by the fireplace in winter, and with the doors open in the summer. It can get a little packed during happy hours or weekend nights in the small space, but the service is always friendly and the drinks are always good. The menu no longer lists the therapeutic benefits of the cocktail ingredients pumpkin, mint, chili pepper, etc., but I still feel good about having five of them in a sitting. If I was in danger of spending entirely too much time here before they started serving food 5.5 years ago, there's definitely no hope for me now. read more

It was by chance that we found ourselves somewhere in Brooklyn in the early afternoon yesterday, and I told my wife I'd take her out to lunch after she passed her road test for her driver's license. She suggested we look for the nearest Persian restaurant, thinking of my ancestry, and Bijan's turned out to be the nearest one. The restaurant is more than Persian. It identifies itself as a Mediterranean restaurant. We ordered Persian dishes, of course. Trent, young, tall and slim, was our pleasant and efficient server. After we had finished, Jahan, the proprietor, graciously came to our table and asked us about our eating experience there and other matters, in a friendly casual conversation. We shared my beef kabob, and her gormeh sabzi, and we had a couple of side dishes. We savored both our delighful dishes, the side dishes enhancing them even further.
