Fantastic, I loved every moment of it! If you're at all interested in rare and amazing silent film,…read morethe Giornate is well worth the trip. It's incredibly well-organized, as far as these things go. The staff are amazing and incredibly helpful, and they all speak basically fluent English -- so if, like me, you are completely lost in Italian, you're fine!
The whole city of Pordenone is involved in the Giornate, so if you get lost, or just want to find dinner, or need a cab, a friendly face is only as far away as the nearest shop or restaurant, just flash your badge and smile and ask nicely, and they'll totally help you out. They're very proud of their festival, and want to make it a great experience.
If you want to experience life in Pordenone, ask for private accommodation. The festival will set you up as a guest of a local for only 15E per night, and it's amazing. I was hosted by a lovely couple who not only made me breakfast each morning, but introduced me to their family, and showed me around the neighboring towns.
...not to mention I had a 200-year-old guesthouse all to myself and my own private garden, with a pomegranate tree and grapevines!! It was so soothing and relaxing -- the sort of experience that would cost a fortune anywhere else. My only regret is that I didn't stay even longer!
