Staff was shockingly rude. We made reservations for 4pm for an outdoor table where we were planning on trying 1-2 wines by the bottle and buying a few bottles for home. When we arrived, a women came out and immediately told us we would not be accommodated because we arrived in a limo (who was dropping us off and we were planning on walking across the street back home.) Admittedly, I missed the small note on the website that states no limos or busses (I would suggest making it more apparent on the website) when making the reservation so I have no problem stating my mistake here. We were all very apologetic, including our driver, and told her we'd be happy to do anything to allow us to stay. She repeatedly told us all the they close at 5 and it was 4pm - we had a 4pm reservation. We told her we weren't planning on doing a tasting and just wanted to buy a few bottles - she said ok. Then, she said we need to be driven back to the bottom of the hill and walk back up. We said - totally fine. Then when we went to get our purchased bottles of wine out of our limo to take with us (I think 4 bottles for a group of 8), she finally said we were too "intoxicated" to be served. It was obvious the staff just did not want our business and the whole experience was shocking. We were hoping to support a local business during this time and were just flat out turned away with excuse after excuse. There are many beautiful and friendlier wineries along Seneca Lake and I would suggest visiting all of those before considering here. read more

The woman working the counter yesterday was unbelievably rude. This winery is the only one that refused to take my best friends bridal party of 13 women. We were not in a limo or bus (which they don't allow but please note there was another large limo there) but in a van and being responsible by hiring a driver instead of consuming alcohol and then driving (I guess being responsible is frowned upon). We kindly asked if we could make an appointment later in the day and she replied "the owner doesn't allow large parties" and continued to be rude and roll her eyes at us. We noticed there was another bridal party of 10 there (so that's not really true I guess) and 3 of us were not even drinking. We were incredibly disappointed and shocked by how we were treated. If I could have given zero stars I would have. To the winery: You might want to consider training your staff to politely communicate with potential customers. It put a small damper on all of our moods but White Springs Winery was our next stop and they were amazing and accommodating. read more

My first visit with a friend who is a "Wine Club Member" and invited me to join her for a tasting (a perk of the membership). What a treat!! Over-looking Seneca Lake, on a wooded hillside with a covered out door deck. Pizza on the deck on Sundays with live music in the warmer months. We sat inside (Thurs afternoon, only a few other folks there, heard it gets REALLY busy once summer comes!) We enjoyed four wines with tasty appetizers - the Chef from Fox Run creates them, and they are available with or w/o meat... Two white wines (one Reisling) along with Pinot Noir and Adante II., and we were offered a chance to try another - tried the Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah, and bought a bottle. My wine expertise is limited, but I really enjoyed the food pairings, and our server took the time to explain each wine selection. Everyone has their own preferences, but I think It's worth a visit, and I hope to return soon!! read more

A group of friends and I come out to Seneca Lake every year to run the Seneca 7 race and Billsboro is always the top of our list for wineries to visit. The staff are the nicest, the space is nice and the wine is delicious. A number of us have enjoyed the delicious handmade chocolates. The Rose is my personal favorite, though we have also bought a number of other bottles which we have enjoyed bringing home. I can't wait to visit again next April! read more

Living in Ithaca, I like to visit the wineries in the area but when holiday season approaches and the weather cools down the tasting rooms get crowded. So, I usually expect big crowds and rather impersonal tastings and customer service and the wines begin to taste the same. (Though many are crowded with drunk/loud people all year round now.) The day we finally visited Billsboro, there was a pre-holiday event that made the others in the area as described above but they (and a few other great wineries on E. side of Seneca Lake) don't participate in the Seneca Wine Trail because they prefer to keep it small, only minimally saloon-y and intimate. So, in contrast to the others we visited that day, we got a really cozy and personalized experience here. Overall, I appreciated that the wines, although the usual FLX varieties and blends, had a special quality and deeper more complex flavors that made them unique and put them above others. You think you know what a Dry Reisling is going to taste like but theirs had a special bit of je ne sais quoi (unami? :) ) that made it exceptional. The staff was friendly, welcoming and interested in their customers. I read that in the warm months their deck is a popular location for eating wood oven pizza and hanging. Really tasty wine and mostly friendly staff but if you're not 65+, the younger female witch... I mean waitress will make sure to treat you like garbage but your geriatric aunt like royalty. Needless to say, my friend and I were the only non-white non covid vaccine eligible here at the time but the difference in treatment was clear. This place was our first stop on our winery tour. The gentleman who was leading our tasting did an outstanding job. He not only was very knowledgeable about their wine, but he also gave some tips that we could use on our visits to other vineyards. The wine was great and this turned out to be one of our favorites. Billsboro winery has a beautiful landscaped outdoor patio. And a nice but small tasting room. They produce excellent Finger Lake dry wine. I am partial to the Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. There staff is polite and helpful. There knowledge of their wine does very depending on who you talk to. There prices are beginning to creep up on there wine and tasting are not cheap. I'm a member which I would strongly recommend if you plan on visiting more that a few times a year. It waves the tasting fee and improves the price of their wine as well. My only suggestion to Billsboro is please consider reducing your tasting fees back to $5 or $6. read more

My friend and I booked two tables on the Billsboro website (which have a cost to just reserve the table) which said the tables fit up to 6 people. I called before we went to ask the cost of tastings and told the girl on the phone that there were 12 of us and she said that she would make a note to put us together. She never mentioned that busses were not allowed. When we arrived to the winery in our limo bus, a guy ran up to us and told us we could not have the bus. We got off the bus and tried to talk to the lady at the counter and she said she was overwhelmed and could not talk to us. Another lady came up to us and was extremely rude and said she had us down as 4 and 5 people and that we would have to walk down the hill to get back on our bus, we were all in dresses and heels. We were not aware of their no busses policy. We would have sat anywhere and split up how we needed and although we almost left they accommodated us. The same lady then came out and said that her tasting manager of 17 years said she remembered talking to me and told us we couldn't have big groups and was arguing with me in front of all other customers, while we were sitting and tasting. She also said because of us their day was off to a bad start and they would now be on edge the rest of the day. No care of how this impacted my friends bachelorette. I have never had worse customer service. Thank god for Catherine, our server who was the sweetest. None of us will be back there and I would not recommend anyone to go there. read more

Some of the bottles are a bit more pricey compared to the other wineries however they are well worth it! Arguably one of THE BEST producers in the Finger Lakes, and absolute proof that excellent, world-class wine can come out of this region (and can be affordable). To me their Cab Franc is the gold standard of what it should be, and if more producers were coming out with wines like this you'd see NYS wine all over the country (and world).
