My mom needed a little pick-me-up so I took her to breakfast at Billy's Cafe (I think it used to be Billie J's cafe?) It seemed like a good choice because although I like places like First Watch, Jimmy's Egg, and LePeep, Billy's has less of a corporate feel and more of an old school, small town, personal vibe. We snagged a booth and our experienced, no-nonsense server brought coffees right away. The menu has loads of very traditional breakfast and lunch options at reasonable prices (especially these days!). I opted for the Billy's combo with biscuits & gravy, hashbrowns, eggs over easy and sausage links. My mom got the Build-a-Breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage patty, and pancakes. For $20 and change, two people can eat like kings. I really didn't need much the rest of the day. Though I'll never make it there before dawn, they do offer an early bird breakfast special before 8am on weekdays for $5.95. Billy's was crowded when we walked in (8:00am)-- we sat at the only table available, but by 8:30 a lot of tables had cleared out. This could be due to the early bird special that they have from 6:00-8:00. The restaurant is your typical breakfast diner, and it appeared to be very clean. Just remember it's cash only! The service was great. I think we see the same waitress every time we come. She was quick, knowledgeable, and very friendly with her tables. My companion and I both ordered Build-a-breakfasts, which come with eggs, toast, and hash browns. He added bacon to his while I added the chicken fried steak with gravy. The hash browns were a bit greasy, but they still remained crispy on top, and we devoured them so we clearly didn't mind. The food portions are large, and very good. It was quite busy when we were there, but the servers did a pretty good job with keeping up. My dad brought me to Billy J's when I visited him last year, and the front door had a large crack. I love this hole in the wall breakfast spot. It has the cozy neighborhood feel to it. There isn't much to look at and it hasn't been updated in years, but this definitely isn't the place you come to for that ambiance. You come because you want good home cooked food. There traditional breakfast is always spot on. Not overly greasy or lacking flavor. I am a bit of a waffle snob and this is one of my favorite places to get a waffle. It comes out hot and the butter melts quick. It's crispy and doesn't get soggy quick. Excellent service excellent prices. A pair of breakfast combos costs nearly $15 at McDonald's. You're better off spending a few extra dollars and sitting down to enjoy a meal here. We are fans of breakfast food. Never been to this Billy's before. The server was very friendly. She worked the room by herself, mostly seniors like us. Feels like a small town cafe, cash or checks only. We both had chicken fried steak omelettes. The coffee had a funny wang. The toast was wimpy, under done. The meat and vegetables seemed identical to the egg, soft & gooshy with American cheese. The hash browns and gravy were OK. Solid eggs, bacon and toast! The hashbrowns are prepared perfectly and very close to Leavenworth Café but unseasoned. Dump your own salt on and it works. Biscuits and gravy were good but pretty light on the sausage. Prices are right And service is super friendly will definitely be back! read more

Local business, good people. Decent food! There seems to be a lack of seasoning to most of the items. Not Husband had the chicken fried steak and it seemed to be lacking something. Salt, maybe? It was fork tender though. I had the pigs in a blanket. That was surprising! The crispiness of the pancake topped with the fake butter and the maple colored sugar water they call syrup was downright delicious! The wrapped sausage were the smaller breakfast sort and nestled in the spongy pancake. I know it sounds like I am bashing the pigs in a blanket but honestly I am not. It was everything I wanted it to be. I would have made myself sick on them if the Not Husband didn't take them away and help finish them. Interesting observation about the pancakes. They weren't cooked round, they were more oblong so they would wrap better around the sausage. I would go back for the pancakes alone. The inside of the restaurant needs a little help, it has a dive-y hole in the wall vibe. There are holes in the wall and paint is peeling but the staff is attentive and friendly. The portions are good sized, the coffee was tasty and free flowing. This is a mom and pop place frequented by locals. Billy's Cafe was everything I expected based on previous reviews. It was pretty busy late morning on a Sunday. There is no hosting so it's pretty much the honor system on seating yourself when a table leaves. The busser left a wrinkled roll of silverware left from the previous diners which was slightly odd. Otherwise service was quick and to the point. I had the chicken fried steak with hash browns, eggs, and pancakes. The hash browns were perfect. Crispy on the outside warm and soft on the inside. Chicken fried steak was pretty good. Nice crust but could've used more seasoning. The pancakes were also delicious. They come pre-buttered so if you're not into that let me know! One odd thing was the syrup labeled that it was made just for Billy's. Super thin...just kind of wondering who is specially making this syrup. I guess you can find the same at their other locations around town. I would also appreciate a better selection of hot sauces. The sauce they have is a Louisiana style and it's honestly not very good. I just ate breakfast here. I've been busy all morning and didn't have a chance to eat breakfast earlier. I figured since I was hungry and wanted to eat right away that I would just go out for breakfast. Most of the tables looked like they were barely wiped down. I was only able to eat a few bites of my biscuits and gravy because the gravy was cold. The eggs, hash browns and bacon were just OK. They were at least edible. I have been to this restaurant twice. The food was delicious. The décor is nice, the restroom was lovely. The waitress was very nice, attentive but not intrusive. She seemed at ease and caring. The concern I have is cleanliness! Nothing seems to be really clean. This includes floors, tabletops, walls, cups and silverware. Will I eat here again? Probably not.
