I credit Eva and her method in being a key catalyst in moving my low-mid 160s to scoring a 171 on the May LSAT Flex. Disclosure - I had already been self-studying w/ the LSATTrainer for three months before I took this class so this review is more for people who are looking for strategies to take them over the edge. Games. I was stuck getting 16-19 at most right in the Games section. Eva's games theory completely revolutionized my approach and got me to a perfect games score on every PT Logic Reasoning. Was doing fine on this section before using the question approach method from LSATTrainer, but Eva REALLY taught me propositional logic, bait & switch and other concepts that are absolutely fundamental to the LSAT and made me way more confident and sure identifying flaws. Reading Comp. Also was doing fine in this section before. Had the least improvement on this section with Binary Solutions, but this is not to say Eva's theory in this section is not valuable for people diving in for the first time. In terms of the class itself, I loved how flexible the class is - Online and in person materials. Eva is incredibly supportive and makes herself available to you to make sure you improve. As others have said she is intense (because she cares and is geeking out over law which you should be too if you're trying to go to law school!). She does go on long tangents in class but if you can get past this, almost everything she shares is very valuable and a lot of it is either related in some way to the LSAT or law practice. Ultimately before the test I did revisit the LSATTrainer on reading and LR but it was the combination of the theory I learned in Eva's class with the baselines strategy I learned with that book that got me over the edge. read more

In response to the owner's comment: I was not given the option of evoking a full refund if I found a 'single question without an efficient response,' as that option seems to be a recent amendment to the course. Had I had that option, it would still not suffice in serving as a guarantee of the success of the course methodology-- which was specifically one of my major problems with how it was taught. Showing someone an efficient way to respond to a question does not necessarily lead them to attain the ability to generate such responses independently. read more

Make no mistake about it: Eva is brilliant. This course is designed very differently from your average due to the founder's science and technical background, hence, the very technical language and methodologies, of course. This is the monster of courses and many others simply cannot compare in terms of theory and application. The claims of "deconstructing" the LSAT are valid. Eva is also very knowledgeable and available to her students. I believe I have been one of those students in the past who dropped a thousand here and there on a course, expecting a 10-point score increase just because. Not how it works! It is a matter of the student's investment (time-wise) that makes the difference. Although my score did not increase significantly because of my limited investment at that particular time, I did jump a few points and would actually highly recommend this course. What I appreciated about Eva was her attack of the content. It may be strange grounds for most but you must be open to her approach. She invests in her students who are actually invested in themselves. You cannot half-ass it and expect to see results. Isn't this the formula for life? She was the first individual in my LSAT career to tell me that I should not accept below a certain score with my level of intelligence. She knew my potential and that alone made a world of difference in my confidence years later, and as I studied again (and for real) for a later administration of the exam. Priceless. Sadly, the one negative that I must note (and the reason for rating a mere 3-stars instead of 4) was the course affiliation with and promotion of a "law school admission coach" who misrepresented himself and his company in addition to swindling a couple thousand dollars from me, but that's another story. I am years wiser for it and certainly will be a better practicing lawyer for it. You live and you learn. My advice is to take Eva's course when you are ready to LIVE, BREATHE, and SLEEP LSAT, listen to and apply her instruction, put in the required independent study time aside from class time, and pump your law school applications out either on your own or with the help of a FREE and real professional. read more

Bare Bones Power and Efficiency.... A few weeks ago, my ex-gf called me from Madison Wisc. to brag about her new car -- a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. "It has all the best features," she explained in her melodic South African accent. She proceeded to list a number of them: rotating smog lights, XM radio, I-pod interface, heated seats, digital gauges, etc..In fact, she talked about almost every add-on feature except what mattered most to me -- the quality of the engine. You see, when I buy a car, I could care less about the bells and whistles. I want a powerful and efficient engine. I'll take a bare bones Porsche over a souped-up Hyundai any day. This is an apt analogy when comparing The Binary Solution with the commercial courses. I first encountered the course when I was a senior at Columbia. I had wasted a cool grand and six weeks on a Princeton Review course that was heavily marketed as "user friendly." It was, but it got me nowhere. Here it was three weeks before the exam, and I was scoring in the mid-50th percentile on PR's "simulated" practice exams. I happened to run into a friend of mine (who was then a student at Columbia Law) while as she was walking down Broadway with Eva Lana, the Binary Solution course founder. I explained my predicament to Eva and without hesitation she enrolled me in an accelerated course that combined videotaped lectures with live instruction and a rigorous practice schedule. Twenty-one days later I took the exam, scored in the 97th percentile, and was subsequently admitted to Columbia Law. My best friend who took the course with me also experienced a drastic score improvement and received an offer of admission from Harvard Law. The key to the course is simplicity and rigor. The course reveals the LSAT for what it is: a weighted sum of a few basic logical principles distributed among a variety of problem types. Studying with Binary Solution probably increased my LSAT score by at least 25 points. Before Binary, I cancelled just before my first test after consistently scoring in the 140s, studying with the usual prep books. After Binary, I got a 169 on the exam and would have done even better had I not come in on a redeye just a day or so before the test (I was scoring in the high 170s in practice). Their approach can be a bit abstract -- which is different from some of the "gimmicks" that other test prep companies did -- but if you can roll with that and you put in your work, your score WILL improve. I can't speak to the experiences of other reviewers, but my experience was outstanding. A friend of mine was the Dean of Admissions at a T5 law school and in having a conversation about the LSAT I was referred to Binary Solution. The Dean himself said that this was the only prep-program where he had seen BIG jumps in LSAT scores. This program is by far and away the best LSAT prep out there. The methods are unique and superior to what the big national test prep companies have to offer. I have a lot of respect for companies like Blueprint and PowerScore, but Binary Solutions goes a step further in completely deconstructing the minds of the test makers. The instructors are a little quirky/nerdy but they are very good at what they do and know the LSAT thoroughly. Their methodology has even gotten them to a point where they are good at predicting what new curve balls the LSAT might throw next. Think mauve dinosaurs. From what I know students who go threw Binary Solutions end up doing quite well with their choice of law schools. I think within the past year there have been 5+ students to end up at Harvard Law. This is rather impressive given that this is a small independent prep company. I will say that the methodology is at first a little abstract and the course materials are not the most user friendly. In order to make the most of what Binary Solutions has to offer, you have to build a solid foundation and comfort level with the LSAT. The program is very intellectual (which I appreciate and love about it) but I can also understand why that might intimidate others. When I asked for money back, I received a phone call telling me that it wasn't their fault my score didn't increase and that no money would be returned. read more

I echo all of Nik B's comments, with the modification that your score WILL increase if you accept Eva's method. I took the September 2009 LSAT and scored a 64th Percentile (after enrollment in Testmasters), and then took Eva from February-June 2011. 10 point, 30 percentile jump in my score. The point is, as Nik says, Eva's method has serious logic to it and can work if you drop your preconceived notions about the LSAT, the method of instruction you require, and trust in her. Her and her co-instructor were extremely available outside the classroom through phone calls, personal 1-1 sessions, and Webinars. The intensive testing built into the course is key to your success. FULL practice exams are what you need to do well, and understanding Eva's method will increase your stamina and ability to recognize patterns in the test. Towards the end of the course and in the 2 weeks before the LSAT, Eva helped me build up my stamina and dedication such that I was taking 2 exams a day. Yes, that is what it takes if you're initial test scores are not in the 80-90%. She provides more than enough course material to take practice tests and examples over and over again. I was more than satisfied with Binary, and have since recommended to many friends. Not to mention, Eva's course was more affordable than the large companies. Binary Solution is the best LSAT course par none. Kaplan screwed my LSAT score up. I went down to a 44th percentile. Testmasters books and Powerscore bibles didn't help me. Eva helped me get a 160. Hey, I discovered this course through a co-worker who knew I was interested in law school. The class takes a distinct approach to dissecting the LSAT. At first this type of logic was a bit confusing for me as I'm use to Corporate America and reporting. However, after awhile it clicked and it really helped. I took the Binary Solution Course with Eva and Robert, I thought Robert taught the class well, I thought Eva confused me and most of the class. She talks in long world winded sentences that can make you forget your original question. She was a chemistry major I believe thats what she told the class, I really didn't learn anything in the actual class. They go over things really fast and they don't give you much time to figure out the answer on your own, they almost immediately put it on the board. The class didn't work for me and I would have loved to get a refund, but her policy states you don't get a refund after 2 or 3 classes, so I stuck the confusing class out. I think the Lsat is confusing enough I didn't pay a ton of money to get confused and not understand the teacher. I am an educated person and a smart person but Eva's style and method of teaching is not good for anyone. She suggests watching the video lessons which are about 2-3 hours long before coming to class for another 3 hours just to understand what she's talking about. Who has time for all of that to get 1 concept. Her Voice is Very Annoying in itself and I'm not being mean, many students agreed. I dreaded when she was the teacher. I agree the book is full of charts that serve absolutely no purpose. I guess she wanted to feel like she gave us something for all the money we spent. I must say their were a couple of students who thought her games section was good, I thought her args section was very confusing and her reading method was useless it served no purpose. Cuny offers this program for students who they choose for a special program to get into their law school, they must get a grade of 150 from taking the binary solution class, most students don't get that grade and drop out or leave the course unsatisfied due to all the confusion and too much information that doesn't serve a purpose. This course is for people who are Chemistry majors or people who want to listen to a confusing chemistry professor. Do it at your own risk or risk of loosing thousands of dollars. I wish I would have read the previous yelp review before I took the course I wouldn't have done so. I truly hope this helps. read more

As a professional instructor of technology, and successful 'graduate' of Binary, I must speak up in favor of the course. I took the course a year ago, and am so thankful that I did so. Thanks to this course, my score improved 11 points. The reason I chose this program, instead of the more flashy courses like Kaplan and Princeton Review, was because it's been chosen as the ONLY test prep course for CUNY law school. Binary Solution also has received accolades from Columbia University, New York University and New Jersey City University. But more than just university recognition of the course's effectiveness, I chose the program BECAUSE it wasn't one of those flashy courses. As an instructor myself, curriculum developer and director of technology, I have extensive experience (different subject matter) with these 'other' test prep companies. When researching a test prep for my own LSAT experience I found that what Jack calls 'home grown' is actually an accurate, straight-forward dissection of the LSAT. It might seem homegrown because the course founder herself still bothers to teach some of her own courses, instead of watering down her course by letting instructors who do not have complete mastery of the subject matter and her techniques teach her courses. And yet, she still has others teach her course: Her instructors have not only mastered the LSAT itself, but have received extensive training in mastering her formula for question deconstruction. They are national board certified teachers, with degrees in education and psychology. They are seasoned educators, something I cannot say for Kaplan, Princeton and the like. Homegrown? I think not. Is she always on time? No. But when she is late, she more than makes up for it, not only in course content, but the time she spends afterward answering individual questions. And class materials having diagrams... what is wrong with that?! Her books are written to instruct multiple learning styles. Hers is the ONLY LSAT prep course that even attempts to teach the different learning styles and attract multiple intelligences. Those that are visual learners much appreciate her diagrams, her auditory learners appreciate her live and digital courses, etc. Yet another reason why Binary is superior to any LSAT prep..no, any test prep company out there. Her diagrams are not mysterious to the visually and mathematically intelligent, and there is more than enough text to explain the dissection if the LSAT questions if the diagrams are not your 'thing'. Time is not spent trying to understand the diagrams, but rather deciphering the LSAT questions. As for "Her unnecessarily convoluted explanations", frankly that's what I spent money to learn. I want someone who has not only mastered the test but actually has a formula to solve EVERY SINGLE question on this test! And she does teach how to solve every question, and if you pay attention in class and practice at home (yes there's homework, lol) you too will learn how to solve every single question on the test. You can't afford to skip the $1200 course fee and practice on your own. You'll just get a 147. You need to practice smart, not just practice hard. (Just one more... "ultra-nerdy, unnecessarily complex, in-class vocabulary"... Jack, you've obviously no intention on attending law school, huh?) And I will concur with Lisa R. Eva is a genius. Plain and simple. She was the first to create an eLearning initiative for LSAT test prep. She's created an online community for her students to collaborate with each other and she's extremely accessible, even if she's not the one teaching the course. Was consistently late and took personal calls during my sessions- I could go on and but the worst was the 2800 unauthorized charge on my credit card that I had to fight to get removed! Great program. Before enrolling with Binary, I struggled with another "national" course a well as several self study books. This was by far the best. Both instructors, Eva and Robert are great. They stuck with me throughout the process and were available whenever i needed them or had a question. If you have trouble with Logic Games- as 99% of us do, this is the course you want. I don't give out 5 stars blindly like some crazed music fan on itunes. Binary Solution is a God send. You will not get more bang for your buck period that's it! The in depth knowledge of the LSAT that is conveyed to you from Eva and her staff makes the test into your native tongue and no longer a foreign language. I took the test before I enrolled in binary solution and I was in tears. I used another prep course which shall remain nameless, and I fell on my face HARD! I was on the phone crying to a friend telling them that I wanted to go to law school so bad and they told me about Binary solution. At first it seems like weird science, but Eva mentions in the form of a disclaimer that you will have to do hundreds of problems until the method makes sense to you. I did what was required of me and the matrix became decoded. I started to see the answers for the questions before I finished the stem. The 20 plus practice tests in a proctored environment is unheard of. The webinars where she stays online along with Robert who offers additional tutoring until the wee hours of the morning. I was able to raise my LSAT from a dreadful 146 to a 162! I am not 22 I work full time so it was hard to teach this old dog new tricks. I am still in the middle of my application cycle, but I have already received scholarships from several top 100 law schools and awaiting admission to many other schools. Here's the truth, the LSAT is not an easy task. It is the hardest test I've ever taken. I didn't go to Columbia or NYU for undergrad so my learning process is different. You have to do the work! Any prep course that treats the LSAT like a 30 min workout will fail you! Eva and Binary cover everything and that's why it is intense! Yes there are times that she is late, SO WHAT! She will never leave until every question is answered and will cover every base! Excuse me yelp for not recommending my review? I must follow up. This course works. It. works. I was scoring in the low 50s with K**lan. After succumbing to this course, i scored a 164, the 91st percentile and got full rides to law school. Yes, eva showed up late. Yes my hand wasn't held throughout this course. But you know what? Eva made sure I succeeded. And any lack of hand holding only benefited me Bc I have news for everyone that is reading this review and contemplating law school. The LSAT is tough, law school is demoralizing, the Bar is an absolute mental violation...and the actual practice of law...is not for the weak and can drive you to a bottle everyday and make you second guess what the heck you are doing with your life. Eva's and the course's approach makes you think twice about what you're getting yourself into. And you will be better for it. I love my life as an attorney and thank Eva for that. read more
