The room itself was not that big, but it was spacious enough. We were in the top floor, so there was a neat little garret window that you could kind of sit in and read a book or just enjoy the view. The bathroom was surprisingly large with plenty of room to place all your toiletries a the shower was watertight and had more than sufficient water pressure and temperature range (which were both adjustable). Breakfast was prompt with Graham cooking and serving the the dining room downstairs, and the food was quite nice. I noticed an award on the wall that said The Ghillies had won "Friendliest B&B" - and the owner, Mary, couldn't deserve this more! She was so kind and welcoming, and truly made us feel at home. We stayed in the twin room right in the peak of the house. It was so charming - complete with tartan carpet. The room was quite spacious and very clean, as was the bathroom. It got a bit chilly at night being right under the roof, but the beds had piles of blankets and we slept very well. The location is excellent. It's a quick 10-15 minute walk into town, and the B&B looks right onto the River Ness with beautiful views! Breakfast was top notch as well and we enjoyed chatting with Mary throughout our stay. I'd absolutely recommend The Ghillies Lodge - you'll wish you could move in!

We spent 3 weeks in Scotland and found so many kind and loving places to stay and met many wonderful people. Our stay at the Avalon was our worst memory. The place itself was good, the breakfasts were great, but the memory of the owners still make us shudder. Maybe it is because we are Americans? The owners did seem much warmer to the other guests. From the moment we walked in the door, Val was in a rush to go out to dinner with friends. She seemed put out and really in need of a vacation herself. We borrowed a pillow in the room for a car ride and felt treated like thieves the next day. Funny, the next B&B we stayed at on Skye (Achalochan House) insisted that we bring their impressive binoculars in our car for our day trips. What a difference.

To begin with, it's more of a motel and Bed & Breakfast than a hotel, Sorry! And that's ok, but don't call yourselves a hotel if your restaurant closes at 8p, there's no elevator for people with disabilities and there's no front desk or other accommodations. We arrived in a Sunday and were told the restaurant closes at 8:15p. The town nearby all closed down, so this should be advertised immediately. Tourist have elderly folks and children and nowhere is it announced. There is no bell hop services, so if you bring luggage, be prepared to lug it yourself. For a hostel, five stars for a hotel 2 at most. There is no air conditioning. On a hot night, good luck. First time in Scotland and we do a great deal of touring around the world. We also work hard for our vacation money as most here I am sure do. Not recommending this place. Staying just tonight and never coming back. Sorry!
