I was seen in A+E very quickly, immediately sent up to the Surgical Assessment Unit as soon as a diagnosis was arrived at, operated and back home in less than 24 hours. All the doctors were very courteous and helpful and the nurses were always on hand.

Pretty good all round really. Staff are overworked and underpaid, as in most NHS hospitals but many…read moreof them seem to genuinely enjoy and take pride in their work. The speed of discharges has vastly improved within the last couple of years - if they tell you you can go home in the morning, then you are usually good to go, prescriptions and all within a couple of hours. Food leaves an awful lot to be desired, but then who ever really fancies eating when in hospital?! There is a cafe, staff restaraunt (which patients may use) and a shop, plus various vending machines. A&E is a bit hit and miss with waiting times - can appear empty yet you wait several hours, but also can appear absolutely packed and you'll be seen within the hour. On the whole the entire hospital does the job it's supposed to, and usually with a smile! One word of warning - take change for parking with you. If you don't you are likely to pay a far higher price with a ticket and there really is very limited, if any off site parking in the surrounding area.

The hospital's worst facet is its location - located in Woodingdean, it's a good 20 minutes plus from the centre of Brighton (allow 30 minutes in rush hour) and the bus services are not that frequent in the evening. There's plenty of parking on the site though - just don't try driving there if there's a race meeting on at nearby Brighton racecourse. The interior of the modern building feels more like a budget hotel than a hospital, with carpet and sofas but bland décor in the spacious reception, and everything in good order and kept clean. Waiting rooms have free coffee and tea available - part of the difference between the private and state sectors, I guess. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful, from the reception to the treatment room, and the treatment itself - physiotherapy - was very thorough indeed and gave the impression that they all the time that I might needed.

As I have visited the campus Health Centre at least once a week for the past couple of months, I feel I am in a perfect position to be reviewing their services! What can I say? The waiting room is nothing special...white plastic garden furniture isn't exactly the height of comfort and whilst I'm not normally one to comment on waiting room furnishings, the wait in this surgery can be long, so naturally, one begins to look around. In fact its a great place for people watching! This is an extremely busy place- it services many students as well as staff and faculty of the university. The staff are all lovely (except for one woman who is unfailingly rude) but they do tend to overrun quite seriously- I have at times, waited 45 minutes beyond my appointment time. I guess this is probably okay if you're a first year student with limited obligations (lets be honest!) but as a member of staff, I feel a bit guilty about popping off for over an hour just to pick up a prescription! That said, the benefit of appointments overrunning is that the staff really take their time with you- I have never been rushed out and have always been given the opportunity to discuss multiple issues- they'll give you as much time as you need. For this reason I'm giving four stars- because caring, professional staff who take a genuine interest in your health is what a doctors surgery should be all about! One star off for uncomfy plastic chairs.

The staff are really friendly and there're loads of experienced nurses on hand to deal with your typical student dramas - they are particularly trained in areas like sexual health for example. The service is a bit slow as they run morning drop ins, which most people attend instead of booked appointments. Further to that, you'll see a nurse first who'll decide whether your problem merits needing to see a doctor. This is very annoying when you know it does, and means waiting twice, even if you have pre-booked your appointment with a doctor. That's my only qualm with the place though - the nurses are all really well-trained, warm and helpful.

Of course the doctors were well educated professionals with informative knowledge, well placed advice and a caring character-they don't just let anyone be a doctor you know. Apart from the medical side of the practice (which is assuring), the real treat comes way of the episodic feel to the waiting room. Although a place of ill health by its very nature, the comradery and jovial spirit around was surprisingly easy to become a part of.

My first visit was very positive and I came away satisfied that I had been listened to and that my treatment would be planned as I want it done. Follow this review for updates. One star reductioin because of the very long staircase to climb. Not for the faint hearted!! 22/03/13 I have used this dental surgery now for a year and couldn't wish for better service. A couple of years ago it was a guy who said the same thing at every appointment while I dribbled in empathy. He retired early. I won't be. Anyway, there's a new crew in town and (hey!) crazy name, crazy guys! I see an Eastern European chap who is extremely competent. Brutal but very competent nevertheless..... They work at NHS rates and treat you like a private patient. My kinda place. At my last visit I got the equivalent of a 10,000 mile service. How ironic that my East European friend was to hand, by the time he'd finished & I'd inspected my gnashers in a mirror, I looked very much like one of his compatriots. Dracula. Post Kill. Oh well. Classy operation and VFM. Fangs very much.
