I love this place. My family, however, doesn't love it as much as I do. The reason? Things are slightly dry. I highly recommend getting a wider variety of sauces and figuring out a way to make it all less dry. I really liked the veggie queen today- great addition. Update: My husband and I were invited back by the owner, Brian for a redo. My previous review was definitely an off day because this time it was amazing. The biscuit was buttery and fluffy, the chicken was thick and juicy with perfectly seasoned breading. Everything was perfectly balanced and truly was a delight to eat. We got the fries and dill dipping suace which if you haven't tried it I would highly recommend you get it on your next trip. On the day that we went it was pretty windy out, we ate our fries last and they were still pretty warm and not soggy. Raul also gave us an off menu drink which is the mixture of apricot sweet tea and strawberry lemonade. Honestly this was sooooooooooo good, a splendid beverage that was sweet(but not overly sweet) and refreshing. This honestly should be the drink of the summer. Finally we got an order of Dough Doughs, I was a bit surprised by the texture as it was more cakey than expected but still pretty good. The jam dipping suace was super good and honestly if I wasn't already full from the biscuit and fries I probably could have eaten another 20 of them. Bird Bird Biscuit is a great example of taking a simple concept and doing it to perfection. We live about 2000 miles away, but visit Austin 2-3 times a year and Bird Bird has been a regular stop for years. Our daughter used to live a few minutes from the Lamar location, but we've also been to the OG Manor Road location (as we did today). I've yet to try something I didn't like, but the favorite is Bird Bird Bacon. The biscuit is all you could ask for - flaky, buttery, a bit of salt - and if you can't eat it for a little while, it's still good (not all biscuits age well - some are only good as they come out of the oven). The "bird" in this case is the egg, over medium so it doesn't run all over the place, but not dry like a hard boiled egg. The generous stack of bacon is smoky but not overly so. All together, it's an amazing sandwich. If you're hungrier, I suggest the Queen Beak or Theodore. Check the www site for details and click on the Story link too. The chicken is crunchy and fried perfectly. For me, it's a lot to eat, but I have indulged on occasion. Finally, you need to try the Dough Doughs. They're biscuit balls fried up like donuts, about 3xthe size of a donut hole and covered with cinnamon sugar. Absolutely amazing. I waited about 10 minutes from my order to be prepared and I sat down at one of the Wooden patio benches to eat, the fence to the left of me, decorated with plants and vines and yes, a little bird bird came chirping through the fence line which I thought was sweet. NOW onto this chicken sandwich that I ordered. I can only say with the very first bite. I knew that it was absolutely delicious. It was absolutely stupendous. It was absolutely one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had in my life. We tried all of the chicken biscuits and they were good. I had the Queen Beak which I would recommend holding the chipotle mayo. The Carolina caviar was tasty as presented and the Firebird was too spicy for me. The biscuits were very dense which I believe may be a regional difference from the fluffy cat head biscuits in the south. The biscuit gravy contained no meat and was on the peppery side.
