The tour visits ten historical attractions in Birkenhead, including Hamilton Square, Birkenhead Priory, the U-Boat Story, the Tramway, the Transport Museum and Shore Road Pumping Station. Starting out at Hamilton Square, the walk is about 2 miles - so you will have plenty of energy left over after the walk is finished. Hamilton Square is pretty impressive with the most Grade I listed buildings in one place in England, except for Trafalgar Square in London. Then there is the former Benedictine monastery, the oldest building in Merseyside. Get to climb St Mary's Tower, check out Pacific Road Arts Centre, pass by Shore Road Pumping Station, which houses the 'Giant Grasshopper', a giant pump which used to pump water from the Mersey Tunnel.
A very perfect walk for the summertime! read more
