Dr Dorough is the only person recommended by anyone i talked to in the Fresno/Clovis area. While he…read moredid a good job with the delivery of my son, I have never met a medical provider with worse bedside manner. He is truly one of the rudest people I have ever met and I cried in the car out of frustration after every single prenatal appointment I had (and for anyone who has ever been pregnant you know there are a lot of them). He was rude about my weight gain (literally saying, and I quote, "wow you are really packing on the pounds, aren't you?"), dismissed all of my questions, interrupted me mid-question to answer the questions he thought I was asking (spoiler: it wasn't what I was asking) and I had to learn to advocate for myself more than anyone should have to do with their medical provider. He was rude to his office staff and one time came into my appointment and said, "These people are driving me crazy." He also told me none of the other doctors in his network were anywhere near as good of doctors as he is, but that they would "get the job done" if I happened to go into labor when he wasn't on call. However, I suppose it was lucky that he was on call when I went into labor because the Clovis Community Hospital staff were negligent and I almost didn't get my epidural in time due to nobody checking on me for literal hours while I waited in triage. So luckily Dr Dan used his pompous rudeness for good to be completely unkind to the hospital staff so that something was actually accomplished. We moved out of the state two months after my son was born and the sub-standard care we received both by Dr Dan and the hospital were the last straw for getting us out of the state. It is mind blowing that such a rude human being is not only a practicing PREGNANT LADY doctor, but that he is the only one recommended in the entire county. So I suppose that if you have to give birth in Fresno go with this guy, but just know that he is rude, disrespectful and in a lot of ways just truly the worst.

Unfortunately, our Nicholas was born with severe brain damage and passed away at 5 days old. Renee wept and mourned right along with us. I can't say enough positives about our experiences with her. The staff problems mentioned by another reviewer were never experienced by us. I now am seeing Renee myself for biodentical hormone therapy. I would highly recommend her!

Renee always took her time with me at each prenatal visit never at all making me feel rushed at all. She was very kind, professional, nurturing and great in her field of midwifery. After the birth of my daughter I began hemorrhaging and she was able to stop the bleeding with medication and massage of my uterus. I would definitely have her deliver my second child if her staff weren't so bad. The front desk is usually fine, however her nursing staff is so very unfriendly and they had horrible attitudes with me at times that were completely unnecessary. I think they should be more aware that they are dealing with pregnant women with raging emotions. It hasn't just happened on one occasion either, which is why I will never return. I have experienced much better staff elsewhere. Having a baby is not just the labor and delivery. The entire process from conception to birth should be positive and reassuring especially at such an uncertain time. The staff is also apart of the process and pregnant women should not have to worry if when they call with a question or concern they will receive any attitude. They should be aware and be more patient with the mother's concerns. As you know pregnant women have many questions and concerns that come up at inconvenient times and are not involved in the actual appointment with the health care professional. Also, if you have any serious concerns while Renee is away don't expect to see another midwife or doctor associated with "Women's Specialty Center" you will have to go to the ER or Urgent Care Center. They refused to allow me to see another midwife in the office, which would have never happened at my previous midwife's practice. I was always able to see other midwife's when my midwife was unavailable. So if you can tolerate a staff with a nasty temperament for concerned mothers go for it but I am going to pass which is such a shame because I really love Renee.

I took the class with my mom and best friend, who were attending the birth as well. It was the best decision I made, since it not only prepared me more for the experience of labor and delivery, it prepared my mom and best friend in such a way that they felt confident and comfortable stepping in to help during labor. Stacie's class gave my mom confidence to be a huge source of physical and emotional support for me, knowing how to encourage me and when to stay quiet. Because of this class, my best friend also now knew what to expect and was able to document the birth and to run and get things as we needed them. The most helpful part of the class for me as a laboring mom was the visuals of dilation and the stages and phases of labor. Visualizing where I was and how far I had left to go kept me encouraged along the way, realizing the longest and perhaps hardest part of labor was "getting that cervix out of the way" and knowing that once that was done, my daughter was not far away. Partly because of Stacie's class, I can say the birth of my daughter was done naturally, and is a beautiful memory I will look back on my entire life. I am incredibly grateful for having taken Stacie's class, and would recommend it to anyone (considering natural birth or not) in a heartbeat. We learned so much, and were ready and prepared for the biggest, most difficult, most rewarding day of my life.

I contacted the midwife in my city who never responded to me so I contacted Lucinda. She took me on last minute and I'm so thankful she did. At the time I wasn't sure if I was going to have a home birth or hospital birth. She did not push me either way; just gave me information to research. Her prenatal appointments are awesome. This was my 4th child and my other kids were born in a hospital with obstetricians doing my prenatal "care." I can honestly say those doctors knew nothing about me or my family nor did they want to. This was not the case with Lucinda. Our appointments were about an hour long and we talked about everything not just the pregnancy. Our family was going through a lot and she was so understanding and non-judgmental and genuinely cared. Another major person from Big Valley that has to be mentioned is Brooke. She is awesome. Very calm, very well versed and knowledgeable and non-judgmental. I loved chatting with them. I was always cracking up. After a lot of research and talks with my husband (who was quite nervous about home birth) I decided to have the birth at home. Lucinda was immediately available when I called her as well as Brooke. The birth was quick and they let me birth without a lot of intervention which is what I desired. Due to no fault of Big Valley Midwives I became ill shortly after giving birth. They were very thorough during postpartum visits and trying to help me get better. I am so glad I found them. I just wish I had them for ALL of my births

Shondra is amazing! She listens to my concerns and addresses them. I did have to wait 45 minutes in the room wearing my paper gown. I did not like how a random MA/chaperone walked in with my legs spread out. I don't recall the NP telling me another staff will be coming into the room.. tsk tsk. Second visit was follow up work lab results with NP Jeannette. This time I waited 30 mins. She's quiet and almost too monotone for me. I was hoping for a different imaging order but she pushed me off to see Dr Vish. After seeing her the visit could have been a telephone visit. It was unnecessary possible COVID exposure just for chit chatting. I scheduled a telephone visit with Dr Vish. I waited a little over two hours. These are his words, "you need to have a baby now", "you're perfect", "stay home and cry when you're going to bleed. Put on an old movie." I am a visual person. If my transvaginal US pelvis is negative why do I still have pain? I don't want laparoscopy; it's invasive. Show me--MRI with contrast. I'll be seeking a second opinion.

But after many many months I am still disappointed and angry with my experience. I also learned from my midwife that my experience is not unique and happens to many women who hire Dutchess of Doula. 1. I hired Joytonia under the impression that she was my doula and that she would attend my birth unless some extenuating circumstance came up. This is what she told me. She decided to book a vacation hundreds of miles away on my due date. She told me, "don't worry, your baby won't come on time anyway, I'll be back in time." Well, she wasn't. She sent a doula I had never met to attend my birth. This doula was kind and attentive, but a complete stranger. According to my very experienced midwife, "Joytonia never attends births". My experience, apparently, is not unique. 2. As another reviewer mentioned, the birth class is not worth your time. You read from a packet the whole time and receive outdated, inaccurate nutritional advice. You could get the same quality education from your hospital. 3. Other than my first meeting with her, Joytonia was never on time or, usually, rescheduled the meeting day of. So my husband would take time off work to be at our meetings, only to be told Joytonia couldn't make it and we would have to reschedule. I know birth workers have unpredictable schedules (with babies coming at unpredictable times), but missing our meetings because of attending a birth was never her reason. Her excuse was usually that she double-booked or was too far away to make it to the meeting. 4. I don't care about this one really, but the package included a gift for baby and we never received anything. 5. For a pro in favor of Dutchess of Doula, the price (at the time I paid) was lower than any other local doula. So if you don't mind having a stranger attend your birth, maybe this could work for you. But I would never pay $1000 again for this service. Pay slightly more for someone who cares enough to not go on vacation during your birth. Take a hint from the misspelled name (it's "duchess", no "t"), this is an unprofessional operation.

First off let me start by saying these ladies are so PHENOMENAL! I was referred to by a friend and…read morethe ladies did it disappoint. I was a gestational surrogate in my last trimester, and after some research I decided that having a doula was going to be in my best interest. That way my husband could stay home with our children and I would still have someone for support. Unfortunately, I gave birth during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the bright side I had Joytonia there through it all physically and Brandy via video call (and she stayed on the call from beginning to end; a total of 8 hours). These ladies make you feel more like family than a client. After having two of my very own children I figured I knew all about child birth. BUT after taking one of the child birth classes I realized I had knew what society showed. I was always a pro-epidural person. Before meeting Joytonia I had it dead set that I was going to have an epidural just like I did with my own kids. After taking the child birth class and meeting/hearing previous clients' birthing stories I came to realization that going natural is something that our bodies are built for. I also learned that I did not need to get an IV, which is something that I thought was necessary. Needless to say, I learned so much from; meditation, breathing techniques, birthing positions, and oh those God given massages! Overall, I would recommend the ladies 10 fold. I swear I'm so ready to get pregnant again just to "work" with the ladies again! Nothing better than people that are passionate about what they do. Side note: I gave birth all natural, and Joytonia handled my mouthy stubbornness with a grain of salt.
