I can't even begin to say how much I love this place. It's rare to find anywhere that even serves dosa and they have a dozen different types to choose from. I'm slowly eating my way through the list, but I must confess that I still am a fan of the plain old Masala Dosa. I also love the onion & spinach pakoda. And the chilli paneer is quite good. Tonight we tried the malai kofta - it was as the menu says "pure foodie bliss". The serving sizes are ample - three meals and two appetizers was way more than enough for the five of us. We had one whole appetizer left over. About the actual restaurant. Apparently after the pandemic they decided not to offer table serve, but go for the fast casual model. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to you at a table. Lots of seating, but very basic - NOT a date night place unless you want food to be the star of the evening! This place is a bit of a hidden gem. It's off the beaten path but worth a stop. The food is so flavorful. I asked for spicy and that's what I got. My mouth was on fire and I loved it! They also give you a lot of naan for the price! In fact, everything was we priced. The staff was super nice. They have been a great takeout place during COVID-19, with generous portions, great prices and fast service. Today we decided to dine in. Ordering was still done at the counter. Shared a mysore masala dosa and an onion uttapam. The dosa was almost as long as the table and rolled up. The interior was lined with a dark red spicy sauce. The masala (potato) filling as served on the side. We spread it inside the dosa and re rolled it. The flavors all went well with spice, savory from the potatoes and thin crispy exterior of the dosa holding it together. The uttapam was made from a similar batter, but thicker and served as 2 large pancakes (filled with onions). It was piping hot and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside with many sweet onions. Both dishes came with sambar and 3 different types of chutneys. All were excellent. read more

Every time I get Indian food, I alwayssss get some type of curry. I think this place has changed me liking briyani more. Chicken kurma: has a good coconut flavor but it's not the best I've had. I got American medium but I didn't taste any spice. Chicken briyani: all of the chicken is under the rice but it comes with a lot. The chicken is juicy and extremely flavorful! The place is nothing fancy. They serve the food in to-go containers and give you paper plates, paper cups, and plastic utensils. Don't let that deter you! The food is delicious. Pretty much devoid of character or charm. Conveniently, everything is served in takeout containers making it easy to take your leftovers with you. Indian spice was spread evenly in the rice and chicken. Comes with yogurt raita to cool down ur palette. Portions are huge, certainly got three meals out of it. Biryani City is what happens when you put all your energy into cooking and absolutely none into décor - and honestly, it's perfect that way. This is actually my go to for biryani and favourite in the dmv for years! If you're looking for authentic biryani try their bone-in chicken biryani which is so hard to find since boneless is everywhere. The rice is sooo good, after the meat's done the rice is still so flavourful. They also do a really good goat biryani and you get a good amount of food for the price! Service with a smile! The biryani rice was absolute rubbish - not because of the biryani rice, the chicken or the 2 useless stuff - a cheap curry and yogurt but Frank's for the money I paid / rubbish . I put 2 orders of biryani rice - found 4-5 pcs of chicken . It was chicken that was cooked elsewhere with hot rice. Disgusting , any right thinking person would not have accepted such low standards in food production. Money making . Don't buy their food h til they improve ! My advise. Glad to be back in the area again to order from this restaurant for their delicious and preparation of the delicacies they make. Last Friday I ordered the Crab Pepper Masala = Fantastic and SAVORY. I love spice and have finally found an incredible spot!! They have so many varieties and not just a bunch of regular options that other restaurants have. They are truly wonderful and their scale goes from 1-10. I got an 8 and it was spicy. I loved it! Everything I got was so decorous and the pricing was very reasonable. We arrived and we're disappointed to see that there was no seating for food inside. Ordering was straight forward with a woman up front. We ordered some mango lassi, which was very tasty. They knock that out of the park. For food we ordered saag paneer and butter chicken. My wife isn't a fan of spicy so she got mild. I ordered medium and unbeknownst to me, this was Indian medium. The food took a pretty long time to come out, but sometimes good food takes time. We took our food to go and ate at home. The saag paneer was good. Lots of paneer chunks, albeit the serving was small. The buttered chicken was super hot. Warning: if you order Indian spice levels you are in for the real deal. I legit haven't had food this spicy since being in India. It was borderline assault. The food was good but small portions, the lack of seating at a restaurant, and wait times knock this place down a bit. read more

No comment on ambiance or service, very little interaction. The flavors were nice, but the meat was dry and a bit lacking. Drenched in the sauce which is great for dipping the naan, but at their prices, I expected a bit more meat. The food was picked at before I could snap the pic, but still. Just seems like something I could make at home with jar sauces... the sauces won't be as good, but I'm sure my meat wouldn't be so dry. Still a pretty decent meal, solid 3 stars. read more

Good, tasty food, but families with nut allergies should be very cautious. Despite clear "no nuts" instructions on our order, nuts were included. When I called, the manager initially denied we had mentioned the allergy and only apologized after I sent a photo of the bill showing the request. I ordered the samosas and vegetable biryani. The food was pretty good and very fulfilling. However I wish the biryani rice to vegetable ratio was a little more proportionate. For plain old "Serious Indian Flavor " Biryani City is hard to beat! The service is prompt and courteous, and the orders are always packed securely. It's crazy no matter how many Indian restaurants I've tried in the DMV area so far, I'm always coming back to this one! With the variety of food, the very reasonable prices, and enormous portions, this place really does not miss! It's just fantastic with food authentic enough as I've had in India before. A great thing about this restaurant is each person can choose their spice level, it ranges from American mild--spicy to Indian mild--spicy. I have tried so much of their menu before, but I will say the Indian medium spicy boneless chicken biryani is great! The raita (yogurt based dressing) and other spicy sauce really completes the package. It packs a punch with very well-seasoned basmati rice! Plus the portions are so large, it's enough for three people! Next the Indian medium spicy gobi manchurian is just divine, the crispy bits of cauliflower drenched with the tangy and spicy sauce remind me of the streets of Kolkata (where indo-Chinese food was invented). I also recommend their various South Indian dishes which all ignite unique flavor profiles--depicting the diversity in Indian food. It's also such great food for takeout! Only cons for this place are that there is still no formal seating arrangements (as of October 2023), so it's hard to grab dinner there with friends. I hope they open it up for seating soon. Also, the spicy level can be very spicy even for those who think they are good with spice (listen to a fellow Indian and don't get Indian Spicy unless you're very very good with spice).
