Biryani Express is a locally owned spot that consistently does Indian comfort food right. Definitely a place we'll keep coming back to when the biryani or dosa craving hits. As expected, the biryani is a standout -- fragrant rice, well-balanced spices, and generous portions. Everything tasted fresh and not overly oily, which I really appreciated. The dosa, though, is my personal favorite, served with flavorful chutneys and fresh sambar. The onion kulcha came out hot and fluffy (thanks to another Yelper for the recommendation!) and paired perfectly with the veg curry. Appetizers were crispy and well seasoned. Service was quick and attentive, food arrived hot, and the vibe is casual and welcoming. We met the owner, who was incredibly kind and shared that they'll be remodeling soon with some exciting upgrades planned -- always love seeing local businesses invest back into their space!

Biryani Express - A Taste of South India in San Antonio! Fresh dosas, paratha specials, and chutneys that instantly transport you to Southern India. They even made a delicious rava dosa on special request--crispy perfection! The chicken fried rice was spot-on authentic. Cozy ambience, warm service, and unforgettable flavors. A must-visit for anyone craving real Indian comfort food! Keep rocking & cooking those yummy dishes!!!

I came here with an Indian friend truly excited to try it out. We ordered the pani puri to start with, the chutney or pani is a diluted generic chutney used as a condiment so disappointing! I got the chicken tikka kebab that came on a drizzling hot plate. It is a huge portion and I give them credit it is very well done and delicious My friend ordered some sort of biryani nothing truly special a pile of rice even her as an Indian was very disappointed The ambiance doesn't really feel exactly like an authentic Indian restaurant more like a cafeteria style The service was efficient prompt and the waitress was very kind and polite. I may return to sample other dishes not anytime soon though. The name of the place got me confused with the other restaurant in the next shopping center biryani pot which is absolutely delicious!

Walked in and was hoping to sit down to eat but was told the staying area was closed. Although there was still customers acting and ordering. But was able to order to go. Dat down and waited for our food. Took about 10 minutes reasonable time for fresh food here I'd assume. Didn't mind it. Got my food went home to eat it. I ordered the chicken tiki masala and butter and garlic naan. My food was delicious. I will definitely come back for this food again and recommend it.

The service is friendly and the restaurant has adequate seating. The bathroom and restaurant were clean with subtle decorations. It is definitely popular and has a large takeout presence. We were a party of five and ordered many dishes so we could try a lot of different items. We had the lamb Tikka dosa, chili fish, paneer Tikka, chicken Tikka, goat biryani, sag paneer, garlic naan, garlic and cheese naan, butter naan, samosas and a veggie marsala. I think that is everything. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and the portions are generous. One this is they forgot one of our entrees and when it came out they did not make it with the level of spice requested. It was supposed to be very spicy but it came out with no spice.

Saw their instagram post so decided to give it a try. Overall it was a very good meal and experience. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt. However, because they do soooo much take out business, the kitchen was a little backed up for dining in customers. When the food did arrive it was delicious!! Will definitely be going back soon.

I ordered the 65 chicken biryani with medium spice and garlic naan. Friendly service and in a small strip mall on Huebner road. I had wanted to try this place for some time as I love biryani. The 65 biryani was $14.99 and garlic naan was $2.99. But is enough for 2 people. The biryani and garlic naan were great! Highly recommend - honestly I could have handled a bit more spice/heat but that is all personal preference.

This Indian Restaurant is our top favorite when it comes to curry! It is a small place but usually customers order to go. They have few tables inside and no outside sitting. When you enter the restaurant it looks neat and very simple. Customer service is always enough nothing extra. The menu helps you understand what you are ordering, have pictures and defined description. We usually get Garlic and Plain Naan, Samosa (which is really good), Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Butter Curry and they have free water and rice comes with it. Be careful with the spice as they really give you the real indian spice kick unlike with other places we've been to. The price is also just enough on what you are getting.

Good place. Would eat there again. It was fast and the portions were good. If you order two dishes, might be too much for one person

From the outside, we initially thought it looked smaller, and being some of the first lunch customers, we noticed there were indeed fewer tables up front. But once inside, it was clear they've upgraded the space. The buffet setup is smaller than at their old location, but thankfully they still have the same dishes we love. I was especially happy to see the fried breaded fish fillets and plenty of mixed pakoras, most of them veggie-friendly for me. And that garlic naan! I'm not sure if they changed the recipe or if it's just been a while, but it was noticeably better and seriously yummy. Before leaving, I told the manager/owner that the new place was nicer but seems smaller. He happily corrected me--and gave me the full tour. Turns out there's a whole dining area beyond the door near the buffet, additional rooms for larger groups, a party area that can also expand dining space when they're busy, and even a lanai/patio for al fresco dining when San Antonio weather cooperates. So yes, my first impression was definitely wrong. They've actually gained a lot more space, and the new location is a nice upgrade. We really enjoyed the buffet and will definitely be back!

We have been chasing authentic Indian cuisine ever since we stepped foot in India back in 2016…read more Tandoor Palace was next on our list to try. Dinner prices are very reasonable, which explains the small buffet entree choices. Chicken Masala, Tandoori Chicken and Nan should be the staple dishes, so they must stand out, which unfortunately they did not. I prefer a stronger spice level than what was served. And judging by the customers dining in, the food was probably closer to what you would find in the British quarters in India, a bit bland and toned down. The inside is small, but a larger place is probably not needed as it was not busy on a Friday night. My recommendation is this is more of a quick lunch restaurant rather than a date night type of restaurant.

Every South Asian restaurant I've loved in my life has been a health inspector's nightmare…read more In Berkeley, I used to frequent Kabana, where the bathrooms were disgustingly filthy, and the only source of light was my phone. Best food ever. Here in SATX, for years, I've (begrudgingly) frequented Madurai Mes a few blocks away. You enter the lobby, and it feels like the staff is having a competition over who can ignore you. It's cramped and dingy, and there are AC hoses snaked throughout the place, and I've never been able to eat there for under $30, but they make a pretty good thali. And so in my brain, the best indian food comes from Resturants you don't much want to eat at. Nawabi was huge and well lit and dare I say clean? It felt slightly dated, and culturally a bit off - like maybe it belonged to an Ethiopian restaurant before - but classy. So the food was going to suck. The menu is expansive and seemingly interesting. It was missing my thali. It did have a number of dishes that offered a few things to try. I haven't, as an adult, longed for food served from a bucket - but Biriyani seems like a solid choice with which to fill one. My kid doesn't care for dosas, but does he like chocolate dosa? I don't know, but were fixin' to find out. Some of the weekend-only options had me salivating. I ordered the Plain dosa with mutton curry. This is a novel combination to me, and maybe also to my waiter, who had me point it out on the menu. It was good, the dosa was thin and crispy with the right amount of edges, the sambar was just ok, the chutneys were good, mutton curry was excellent. I skipped dessert, and opted for chai masala. But I should have really gone with some of their kulfi which looked super tempting in its display case. In short, everything was pretty awesome. I have my next visits penciled in to try the lunch buffet, peruse the weekend menu, and track down the AYCE pani puris. The only problem was that this time - on a Monday night - I was the only customer there, which was weird. But the staff was super welcoming, no Deliverance vibes, so I went with it. If y'all could do me a favor and eat here sometimes to keep this one open, that would be awesome.
