I used to come here all the time when I worked in fidi, but left fidi area around 2015. I work around fidi again so I had to come back to this cart and I can say it tastes exactly what it was back then. I would say this is prob the best halal cart in NYC! No other place can compare. Price back in 2015 was $6 and now it's only $8. $2 diff in 7 years is a bargain.

The food is good. Authentic Indian cuisine. Service is fast. Samosa was really tasty and dough was flaky. It has a long line but the wait is not too long. Go there for a taste of India.

Tried this place out today and OMG they have delicious food!!! I'm Indian/Pakistani so I have very high standards for Indian food. We tried a samosa and chicken kabob and it was DELICIOUS!! Price is literally unbeatable for the quality of food here.

I wrote a bad review for this place previously and now realized it was for the wrong cart! I deleted it once I realized. Glad to see I gave the actual cart a try because I saw a huge line on a Tuesday for lunch. This cart as well as another biryani cart seem to rival each other in terms of length of lines which is impressive! The line went relatively quick. I got the lamb and chicken combo for $6. Nice and cheap. There was plenty of rice. Chicken and lamb was tender and delicious. It came with lettuce and tomatoes. You have the option to add white sauce and red sauce. All combined it was really good. It doesn't beat the halal guys but for downtown, two thumbs up. Great meal!

Decided to give this cart another try after a few years but only the price has increase. Food taste, quality and portion are only lower/smaller. Cart vendor is also nor wearing a mask. Ugh!

Not bad for a midnight meal after a marathon of Tribeca films. Food was packed to the top with sauces leaking to the side of the container. Only negative was that the food was not warm enough. The vegetable curry was flavorful and pairs very well with the jasmine rice. The paneer sag was interesting because it is spinach and cheese bites. Both entree comes with a salad. For $6 an entree with a drink, I'll take that to go any day!

Nice change from the standard chicken over rice. They have biryani, samosas, and roti rolls. There are $6 lunch specials which seem like a great deal, but I don't work in the area. I had the chicken biryani ($6) which was pretty good and flavorful. It comes with some salad and half an egg. I would skip the white sauce. It's too thick.

Holiday! No long lines like reviews stated! 2 guys in the cart looking for customers to serve calling "next" when there's no customers on line. WTF. We had the chicken biryani was very flavorful and not greasy at all. Salad and white sauce married the biryani. I found the chicken a bit dry but good with the white sauce dip. The lunch box chicken kati roll comes with the samosa, and chicken kebab. All very good. Chicken kati roll was flavorful with a light curry sauce as I appreciate not too savory flavors. Chicken tikka masala was very flavorful. Chicken looked red with so much seasoning. Chicken was very moist and tender. Didnt need white sauce top add flavor. Fed us 2 close to having a food coma. Cheapest lunch ever! Definitely going back for their other veggie options.

(This was originally posted on Indian King Biryani House cart...moved it here to its rightful spot, oops!) --- Came here today on 11/27/2019 with a coworker around 1130. Said the line gets insane. This is located in a group of halal carts, but off by itself. Some interesting Indian options here, but I just got the basic Hyderabad chicken for $6. The seasoning was done well. They have this good green hot sauce that you can ask for. Not the hottest but good. I'd say the only issue I could find that they're a little slow compared to other carts but just get there early. I'll be back to try some other neat dishes. Oh and they take card thankfully.

Had this for the first time today. It was very good. I had the chicken biryani...their namesake. I paid $6. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The little side salad was fresh. The chicken was good too. I saw some other people order some chicken dish with orangey chicken on top. That looked really good and I'll give it a go next time. (I looked at the photos and it looks like that other dish was Chicken tikka) I was disappointed to find, only after reading YELP reviews, that their meals come with a FREE drink...why didn't they tell me to grab a drink...that it's free? UPDATE: I went back again today to try the chicken tikka masala. I AM IN HEAVEN!!!! It is soooo good and there's so much more meat than the chicken biryani plate that I had the other day. So many spices...all nicely married into the chicken. I also found out that the soda isn't free so I don't feel like I was ripped off anymore. They charge $0.50 for it or something like that. I don't drink soda and have cooler water in my office so I'm saving my $0.50 towards my next lunch here! UPDATE 10/9/14: This is the 3rd time that I've eaten here since I "discovered" it last week. Today, I had the lamb kati roll and the chicken kebob pita. The kati roll was delish. Yes, the skin was greasy like many other yelpers have stated but it wasn't dripping grease. The lamb was very flavorful and the sauces on it made it so good. When you order, make sure to say "single roll" otherwise they give you an "order" which comes with 2 rolls for $6. A single roll is $3. The chicken kebob on pita is a bit larger than the kati roll and full of veggies. The chicken kebob itself was filled with spices and cooked perfectly...done but not too done or dry. The pita is also nicely toasted and not greasy. $4. I would definitely try this again. I just upgraded this place from 4-stars to 5-stars. So far, I've tried 4 different items and all were very good.

I'm from Silicon Valley and we're swimming in Indian restaurants from every region. We initially came in for a quick bite before dinner plans in the area. I got a chicken lollipop and samosa and was surprised by how much flavor it had. My expectations were low since they said they didn't have any chutney to come with the samosa and offered ketchup instead. However it definitely didn't need it and had so much flavor and moisture on its own. As we were munching on our two small items, we were consumed by the smell of the other dishes they had. We left to dinner at the other restaurant and were completely stuffed, but I HAD to swing back to this restaurant to get some of their curries togo. I got one of the fish curries which had some pickled vegetables and one of the goat curries. I've never had this much depth in a fish or goat curry before and it beat out any I've had before. I was literally sucking as much of the gravy as I could from the bones when I got back because I knew I wouldn't be able to have this level of depth and flavor in a curry when I get back to California. The service was so friendly. They were smiling and chatting with us while we ordered and were attentive in the beginning even though we got two small items for like 5 bucks. I'm definitely making my way back to Astoria to have this again.

Run by a mom & daughter duo, Amma & Nur-E are truly so down-to-earth, full of positivity, and their energy is luminous. Amma is genuinely passionate about her craft and unbelievably humble! We arrived 10 minutes before 8pm and were greeted by Nur-E who literally shook our hands and welcomed us with open arms. The restaurant seats ~18 people so you can imagine how intimate, curated, and deeply rooted in tradition this dinner felt. Amma is from Dhaka, Bangladesh and with every course that came out, Nur-E described it to us in her expert storytelling ways! Everything we had was incredible. The Mango Lassi is blended by hand for that perfect consistency and refreshing, lightly sweet, homemade taste! After 5 whole courses came out, Nour-E came out and told us we had 7 more to go! So definitely come hungry and know you will leave beyond satisfied. My favorites were the Lau Chingri (Shrimp & Bottle Gourd Squash), the Rohu Fish Fried, the Murgir (Chicken) Roast & Palao, Beef Curry (Gorur Gostho) and Khashir (Goat) Biryani. Basically everything we had!! Each dish was balanced in depth, richness, and heat. The meats & fish were so tender, the rices were unbelievably fragrant, and the sauces were aromatic and layered rather than just spicy. The Rohu Fish Fried is imported from Bangladesh and lightly coated in spices and pan-fried until golden brown. This was my first time having this fish and it won't be my last! The Murgir (Chicken) Roast & Palao will live rent free in my head for a long time. It's richly caramelized, light yet aromatic, and deliciously comforting. I can see why this is usually a celebratory dish and is the only dish that Amma will serve at every Dawat Dinner! This dish is so popular that you can now find the recipe on Food & Wine. Speaking of accomplishments, the Lau Chingri (Shrimp & Bottle Gourd Squash) was named one of The New York Times' Best Dishes of 2025. We were also so lucky that Amma made her Mishti Doi for dessert! It's a sweet yogurt that has a custard-like creaminess and was the perfect way to end the meal after all those incredible flavors. We were so grateful to get a special one in a traditional clay pot. Also, there's tons of food but the staff will package any leftovers for you to take with you! They've literally thought of everything to make this an exceptional experience. Nur-E closed our dinner saying "food is life's greatest connector" and I couldn't agree more! Amma is truly an inspiration for opening Korai Kitchen at 61 years old, becoming a James Beard Nominee at 67 and getting 3 Stars from New York Times, and now signing her first cook book deal at 69. This is definitely in my top 10 meals of 2026 and is one of the most memorable meals I've ever had. I can't recommend Korai Kitchen enough.
