They were one of the vendors at the Water Lantern Festival and when I went they didn't have too much of a line. Quite pricey but it's food truck food at an event. What do you expect? The mac and cheese was $10, but was SUPER good. The worst bison burger you will ever eat. It's barely even edible. There were 8 or 9 people ahead of me in line, about 12-15 burgers, yet it took 25 minutes for my order of a single burger to be served. As soon as I took the first bite, I was disgusted. Insanely low quality ingredients, way overcooked, and just awful tasting in general. It was as if a 5 year old tried to make a burger. It was so bad I would not even recommend that the place tries to get better, they should just give up. My son wanted a bison burger and this was the first place that came up. So, on my way back from DTLA, I hit it up. It is in at the back of Ramírez Liquor Store, you can't miss their sign. I ordered the bison burger and chili cheese fries with the bleu cheese on the side. The bleu cheese is a nice touch, but I shared and my daughter doesn't care for it. I am still eating bits of it while writing this. I believe the owner said it's French and not as aggressive as regular. It's good. It also did not give me that greasy feeling after finishing the burger like some other burger place did so this is very positive. The truffle fries were pretty good but nothing too special. I wanted to give 5 stars to this decent burger place located in an area that doesn't have as many good restaurants as say like DTLA. But I gave 4 stars because the burger is overpriced compared to other very good burger I had and I would come back to this place only if I could not drive that extra few miles to DTLA. Tips: It seems like it's trying to replicate the food truck experience within a liquor store, so they have some not-so-comfortable seats that may be great for people that like the experience but may be bad for people that just want to sit comfortably. I had the bison salad which has Spring Mix Lettuce Greens, Chopped Tomatoes, Roasted Pecans, Italian Blue Cheese, Jack & Cheddar Mix Cheese W/Balsamic Glaze and Olive Oil and we both tried the garlic cheese fries made with fresh garlic. Sooo good, they're open 5 days a week and till 9 PM. Which is perfect for me to come during my lunch. They have elk burgers and wild boar burgers too. They even have a veggie burger. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? It's hard to create a good atmosphere at a food truck, but the folks behind the counter at Bison Burger were warm, friendly, and fast in their service even when the line swelled a bit. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Bison Burger is expensive even by food truck standards, and as evidence of that, my moderately sized Bison Burger ran me a full $14.00 pre tax and tip. I let this slide for two reasons: A) bison is exceptionally expensive, and B) other items on the menu were more reasonably priced. Close call, but Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a really solid burger. While the sesame seed bun was a bit oversized relative to the size of the patty, the patty itself was excellent, and the peripherals like onions and a cheese blend brought everything together nicely. In search of a quick lunch, I just happened to pass by the Bison Burger Truck and notice a good crowd of people. How could I say, "no?" After all I'm just a mortal man. The menu had a lot of choices, many which were already sold old (or perhaps not available to begin with), but I opted for the Venison Burger - no cheese. Upon placing my ordered I inquired as to what temperature they cook the meat to, since that question did not come up proactively. The answer I received was probably meant to shock and awe. "Legal." I was told that the meant was cooked to a legal temperature. This was a red flag, but courageously I pressed on. Realizing his snarky remark, the gentleman taking my order did his best to backpedal and explained that they make it slightly pink in the middle, because they don't want to take any chances. I was excited to bite into this creation, but once I did I quickly realized that Venison should always be rare to mid-rare. The flavors were quite good, with the best part being the onion bun. If I am to nitpick, I would say that there was way too much mayo, but I understand that it was meant to moisten the overcooked meat. The patty was quite thin; probably machine pressed and frozen, leaving the texture a bit gummy. Overall, the burger was okay, but nothing I would shell out twelve bucks for in the future.
