Founded in 1869 Bissell Floorcare was instrumental in the development of the vacuum cleaner and a whole host of floor care chemicals. My own perception of them was always as the consolation prize on Let's Make A Deal when some poor unfortunate traded a brand new Buick for a carpet cleaner behind Door Number 2. Today, the company specializes in products that deal in pet stains and owns the patents on Woolite cleaning products. I'd still rather have the Buick... and more importantly, a dog walker. Bissell Corporation has offices in several locations around the United States one being in Charlotte N. C. The company was founded 149 years ago in 1876 by Melville Bissell. I just want to say through no fault of this company I made a purchase that was outdated at the time. I had used the Black and Decker Dust Buster for years and actually went through two of them. I guess that's why Black and Decker had problems. I had the same issue with their coffee makers and toasters. BUT I digress...When I couldn't find a hand held rechargeable vacuum I invested in the Bissell with the exceedingly long electric cord. I found doing business with the company directly very convenient. I had extra attachments and purchased extra filters. Here's my downside; it's cumbersome to use and I have the potential to trip over the electric cord in addition to the hand held vacuum becoming too heavy for me as I have aged. Without a long pole style vacuum I bend over too much to vacuum up spills. So now I have a hardly used item I'm giving away. I think I already have someone that will give my Bissell a good home. We wear out floor cleaning machines at our house. We have tried many different brands. By and large we have found the best cleaning choice for homes with pets to be the products that Bissell makes. Being a house that has both Cats and Dogs, we literally clean our floors daily. Fortunately for us, years ago we got rid of all of our carpet and now have all hard floors. Bissell has both carpet and hard floor solutions for cleaning. The machine we have, specifically designed for houses with pets uses a cleaning fluid and heat mixture, along with scrubbers to get our floors a really good level of clean. Other brand machines have worn out on us, and/or never did that great of a job, but we now pretty much exclusively use Bissell and have been very satisfied. Pro Tip: with so many machines on the market, they literally have a machine and cleaning fluid for almost any situation. "Bissel While You Work," was a made up song we sang (think "Whistle While You Work") and what we did all the years I waited tables, did banquet serving, and bartended! Every manager I had stressed the motto: "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean!" These quiet, human powered (not electric) "carpet sweepers" did the trick for cleaning food/beverage carpets while people dined. They are quiet and got up errant crumbs and stuff, easily! At every place I worked, your end of day "side work" included bisselling. Other side work included rolling "set ups" which is cutlery wrapped in a napkin, cleaning the coffee makers, and wiping down tables. Bissell has been around, ya'll! Melville Bissell developed it and it was patented in 1976. Melville died of pneumonia in 1889 at the age of 45 and his wife, Anna, who had been extremely active in their various companies, took over as CEO upon Melville's death. She was the first female CEO in the United States! Well done, Miss Anna! Growing up, my family did not have many toys. We did have a Bissell "Little Queen" pink toy sweeper though! (I can't imagine why a child would enjoy playing with a sweeping toy!) And we had a grown up version of the Bissell we used primarily in the kitchen for crumbs and such when we didn't want to haul out the big vacuum cleaner.
