Cuban sandwich with fries

We love the local family style restaurants and this is one of those. Tucked down the road from Main st, over on Cedar St, we just discovered this small restaurant with a big menu. Everything from frog legs to duck confit can be found here! There is also a mixologist that creates delicious and creative new specialty drinks each month. The atmosphere is like sitting in someone's dining room, the staff is outgoing and helpful and the food is fresh, creative and delicious. The pies are baked fresh daily and have everything from grape pie to a variety of cream pies. SAVE ROOM FOR THE PIE!

A very unassuming place tucked in the village of Akron. Looked like a converted house-doesn't have a lot of outside or inside curb appeal - had a steady crowd. Has both inside and outside seating - cute patio - A/C could use a little work. Glad we got a reservation; otherwise would have waited hours. The food was delicious and hot- great, great prices! Craft cocktails from Doug- who is also a mixology author! Doug was our server too - very attentive and interesting to talk to. This is a hidden culinary and cocktail gem - will definitely be back - leave room for home made desserts. Will definitely be a repeat customer. They need to have a website; information is hard to access- for people looking to go to a great place like this.

The food here is delicious! Huge selection. You will find options on the menu which may surprise you. The service is impeccable. Amazing cocktails-and I mean really great! There are several tables in an indoor area and several outdoor tables. If you prefer not to wait I suggest making reservations. This place gets busy because it's that good.

A couple Saturdays ago, I was running a few errands. Once I was done, I felt like visiting a diner for lunch. I did a search and found Poached Dreams Diner in Aurora. I didn't mind driving up from Markham to check it out. It was straightforward getting here. I parked in the parking lot and walked in from what looked like the back of the diner. There's also a front door with a patio that faces Wellington Street East. I was immediately greeted by a young, enthusiast woman. I let her know that I needed a table for one. She got me to a comfortable booth by the window. The catch is that you have to watch your step to get to your seat. It's a treat when I have breakfast out. I thought that I'd be getting french toast. Well, all that changed when I saw a heading for comfort foods on the menu. Nothing makes me happier than seeing open-faced sandwiches on a menu. It was probably during my days living in Winnipeg that I fell in love with such sandwiches and at least a side. New goal: come here and have every open-faced sandwich on the menu. I got cold water to start. It was refreshing and much needed after running errands. I ordered these items for my meal: - Diet Coke (2) - Hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and veggies My Diet Coke came with a glass with ice. I loved it. I wish the can was larger! I needed a second can for dessert. I loved my hot turkey sandwich. There was a generous amount of sliced turkey smothered in sauce over a slice of white bread. I got to choose my starch. I went with mashed potatoes. There was enough gravy over the turkey that I dunked my spoonfuls of mashed potatoes into it. I loved the steamed veggies. They were perfectly cooked. They also went into the gravy. The meal was delicious. I'd order it again. I felt like dessert. I asked if there was any. Baklava with pistachios. I said yes. I thought that it would be a square or rectangle. Nope. I got a roll. Cool! It was perfect. It had the right amount of honey. It was crispy and yummy. So good! I paid my bill at the table. I tipped and then tapped my credit card. I elected to have the receipt texted to my phone, which also signed me up for its points program. Yay! I learned that this diner has been open since June 2025. I'm always late to any party because I seem to live under a rock or in a cave. I'm glad that I visited this eatery. Great food. Great service. Great! I used the washroom before I left. The women's washroom was clean and had a full-length mirror. This eatery is huge. It looks like there's a cafe for those grabbing coffee and maybe a snack before leaving. I look forward to returning for more good eats and drinks. (148)

Upon entering, the space is super spacious and clean. My friend ordered their 2 egg special with bacon, and I ordered their soup and sandwich combo ($12/13). I decided to go with their tuna salad and chicken noodle soup. Upon recommendation from our server, I also ordered their cappuccino- it was very delicious. Amazing food and great service, I would like to come back and try some of their dinners dishes.

Village House Restaurant - BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt: Big, hot chicken fingers with plenty of cheese and BBQ sauce!

Running through Albion, NY, with family at lunch time, my mom had a gift certificate for Village…read moreHouse Restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised, impressed with the experience! The parking lot here is plenty big and there were plenty of spots when we pulled in around 12:30pm on a Thursday. The building isn't fancy, the interior comes off a little dated (men's bathroom could use a deep clean) but it's surprisingly spacious with plenty of tables and booths. We walked in and were greeted by a friendly young woman at a counter who grabbed a couple menus and led the two of us to a booth. It didn't take long for our waitress to come over with waters and gave us a few minutes to browse the menu. Be ready to have some decision paralysis as this menu is HUGE! There're tons of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, melts, salads, entrees, etc., in addition to the daily specials. My mom had been here a few times before for work lunches, so she already knew what she wanted, but it took me a second. Our waitress was incredibly courteous, pleasant and she was plenty patient with me! Our waitress made sure to check on us periodically throughout our meal. Once our orders were placed, we sat and chatted for maybe 10-15 minutes before our food came out - I was very surprised how quick it was! For lunch, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt with a side of french fries. The description of the BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt is pretty self-explanatory: crispy chicken fingers covered in BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar jack cheese between grilled sourdough with a side of ranch dressing to dip in. It may sound basic, but wow, this was REALLY tasty! There had to be three or four meaty chicken fingers in there and they were fresh out of the fryer. There was a generous amount of a sweeter-style BBQ sauce on the chicken fingers but it wasn't overpowering. Between chewy and crispy, the bacon leaned chewier but still had a little crisp to it, no complaints from me. This super melt was super cheesy, delish! The cup of ranch on the side was an awesome touch - I drizzled a bit on top before each bite. And the side of french fries were excellent - Right out of the fryer hot and perfectly golden crispy, one of the better side of fries I've had in a long time. For around $13.00 (as of 05/2026), this quality and size of the melt with fries was excellent, I was perfectly full as we paid for our meal at the front counter. I'm really impressed with Village House Restaurant! It's not fancy but the staff were very friendly and the food was hot and fresh. But..... my gosh. The dishes looked nice. My niece said her food was okay. Her cousin said his food was overcooked. My dish was trash, my gosh, I couldn't stomach the taste. The salmon was tough, tasted bad, rank. The seasoning was weird and didn't pair well. It had some kinda spice that tasted odd. I don't even know what to say about it. But later that night I was throwing up well into the morning. I only eat possibly 3-4 small bites, most of the dish was left back. I still tipped and didn't complain as I just wanted the kids to have a nice night without arguing with whoever. As I write this I am reminded of the disgusting taste. NEVER again for that dish! Now that I think about it I honestly shouldn't have tipped. Paying for that dish was already above and beyond!
