***WORST SERVICE EVER*** Please read the review below. I would give zero stars if I could, because the service was NONEXISTENT. We waited about 25 minutes before our order was taken. About 10 minutes later, we received some crusty old bread with not enough butter (drinks still have not arrived). I had to ask for more plates so we didn't have to eat our bread off the table. After an hour of waiting, our DRINKS or food have not arrived. We decided to leave. On our way out, we told one of the servers we were leaving because one hour had passed and we didn't even receive our drinks. Instead of saying anything, he ran away to the computer to make sure we didn't owe any money. On another note, my husband asked the hostess where the restroom was and she responded with "its where you were" (we came up 4 levels LOL). We foolishly decided to give their sister restaurant a try- DEER. When we walked in, there was no hostess and 4 people working at the bar. One of them walked right past us and the other 3 just looked at us and went back to work. Learning from the first mistake, we walked out and ate at a lovely restaurant right across the street called U Modre Kachnicky II V Michalske where we happily left a 20% tip. read more

First ever visit to Czech Republic and absolutely no regrets visiting this hidden gem in old town square. Please have Peter make you "the last tot" concoction- you will not be disappointed. I'll admit it, I walked in here with a chip on my shoulder and fully prepared to be disappointed. I talked some trash before heading down the stairs and declared that there is no way this place could be anywhere near the same level of what we've become accustomed to in the states. Well, bartender, I'll take the crow. The location is a bit funny for this bar. It's in the thick of all the tourist action, but oddly enough was not overrun by tourists either of the times that we payed this place a visit. It feels like it should be hidden on the outskirts of the city as the best kept secret that only locals should know, but thankfully for us, it's easily located and my favorite bar in all of Prague. The cocktails were insane. Truly insane. Even though the cocktail book is thick and extensive, I don't even know what I was ordering since I simply played dealer's choice and gave him free reign to get me loopy on whatever he concocted. The process, the presentation, the attention to detail, the flavors and the prices are all on point here. Seriously, not a single drink missed and I ran the gamut with everything from whiskey to absinthe. I think my willingness to be open to anything at Black Angel's really pleased the bartender and broke him out of his routine a little bit - seemed like someone was asking him to make a Moscow mule every few minutes. There was some hesitation at first but once he realized when I said "go ahead, anything," I really meant anything. The result was a few glasses of brilliance able to stand their ground in any great cocktail city. Got an old fashioned and their speciality Sazerac, drinks were flavorless and severely watered down. Presentation is a 9.0 out of 10.0 yet alcohol quality and quantity was a 0 out of 10. Fake cellar interior and fake drinks. People next to us were equally disgusted with their order. I agree with other reviews. One of the best cocktail bars I've been in the world. It's situated in the basement with interesting yet artistic ambiance and decoration. Feel comfortable and casual yet intimate and posh.. Drinks are excellent. Cocktail menu is in Czech but you let the bartender or sever know what type of drinks you like, they will bring you something to blow your mind. Vodka sour was excellent by the way. Very attentive service and so reasonably priced (all handcraft cocktails are around $6). Must visit if you want excellent cocktail! PS: don't just walk down to the bar. There is a hostess at the entrance to the bar. She will take you to a good seat but if you try to bypass her, she will be upset. read more

This place has never seem to disappoint me. It's situated in one of the most touristy areas of Prague. You would definitely need to make a reservation especially on Friday and Saturday nights. They are not afraid to turn you down. Decor is very nice with beautiful paintings, old architectural building and a great service. We sat at the bar (yes we needed reservations for that). I ordered a Manhattan for my drink of selection. Presentation of the drink was great! It came in a small crystal perfume bottle and with side of four cherries. Cherries that came with the drink were dipped in alcohol for about 5-10 years (crazy!). I took a bite, and It felt like I took a shot of alcohol. Can't complain! they were both very delicious. I know all everyone wants to do in Prague is drink beer, but this is cocktail bar is an absolute must do in Prague! Don't be put off by the tacky sign outside, this is anything but a tourist trap. The bar is seating room only, so if you're a big group there's a likely chance you won't be allowed in ( which is what happened to a group ahead of us). A hostess greeted us, and took us to a table immediately. I had expected to like it, but the experience that followed was above and beyond our expectations. The decor was classy, a gothic cellar with servers in bow ties. The menu should be a bestseller with stories about each drink and the bar itself. Our server was great, the bar tender a treat to watch and the cocktails, possibly the best we've ever had. Imagine; 13 women on a hens-do walking into a Bar after an afternoon of drinking about 14 bottles of prosecco and an evening of drinking Spritz and finally mixed drinks to now completely mix up our balance with some shots which were clearly missing from the night. Ok so are you with me? Cause its kind of a miracle that I even remember this day/night. Now imagine all that knowing that these women are dressed to impress and they just walked into this bar! A place where saints come to sin. Where there is no room for prudence. Where you are really taken into the cave of a black angel and they set the bar on fire. And then after a while these women just have to dance. But where? well they head for the tables and dance and dance on all the rock music which passes by, cause ooh yeah.....in case this wasn't clear this is a rock bar. You can imagine that these good girls were transformed into black angels before the night was out. Now considering my R&B, Wicked Jazz sounds, HipHop Latin personality its a good thing I am a super open minded person :). Then again I secretly do love myself some rock as long as it isn't Ramstein. And here they had the perfect combination of hard and soft rock, popular rock vs the stuff I had never heard of. so I danced the night away in my heels and little black dress and never not for one moment felt out of place, because no one cared. The best thing about this bar is: Everyone is just out for a good time and no one cares about who is who. The bar show is awesome, but beware it gets very hot Music is brilliant even if you are not into rock a little less pleasant: around 1am it gets super busy so stay on the table would be my advise in Prague you are still allowed to smoke in bars and since this place is in a cellar it gets a bit hard to breath after a while. We were advised that taking pictures was not allowed downstairs as its a historic building and some of the paintings here are extremely old. Such a beautiful bar. Chandeliers, pianist and pretty decor. But that pianist was just the highlight of our visit. Old and new songs were played in a unique fast paced manner. I could have sat there for hours. This review is for the Black Angels Bar downstairs. It offers speak-easy like cocktails for about $5 USD. Compared to living in DC, that's almost half or a third of the price of a cocktail drink here! So I was highly impressed, and the "penicillin" cocktail, that has honey, ginger, and whiskey, with some mezcal was delicious. Great atmosphere (though it would be better if it was nonsmoking, but that's my lungs being spoiled in the US), great drinks, and you should go with great company! ps. make reservations, but they may be able to fit you in without one. Their rooftop is against the law because it is no t the way as a local told me but it is a really cool roof top bar. I can only speak to the drinks which are good but again I come for the rooftop view. It looked too touristy as far as the meals go so I really do t know about the food. read more

This is a gem in the heart of Old Town Prague, and offers some of the best craft cocktails in the world. We were pleasantly surprised by the elegant environment and the live piano and saxophone. The bartenders are experts at their craft, and many herbs and infusions are hidden throughout the bar. I told the bartender that I loved Manhattans, and asked him to please make me a Czech cocktail that he thought I would enjoy. I absolutely loved watching him prepare an amazing concoction that was based with Hammer Head whiskey (Czech's finest), and finished off with a variety of infusions with no labels, but all were meticulously measured in jiggers and added to the mix. The icing on top was that he carefully strained the liquid into a small green glass flask and managed to also fill a tear-drop shaped up-glass with the exact amount to leave a meniscus. But it didn't stop there, he filled a large clear glass beaker with large cubes of ice and then buried a stick of dry ice into the beaker and filled it half way with water so that the fog started to roll over the edges. He then slid the green glass flask into the beaker to keep it chilled, placed the tear-drop up-glass on a mini bread board and add a small piece of toast with spread. I thoroughly enjoyed nibbling on the toast, relished the cocktail, and refilled the glass from the flask about 4 times until all of the precious liquid was drained. Located in Old Town Square, this bar is reminiscent of many American-style speakeasies, hidden in the basement of a hotel and accompanied by a jazzy piano player. When the host led us down, they ask that you not take pictures, which we did not question. We heard that this was one of the best cocktail bars in Prague and they weren't wrong. The atmosphere is cozy, albeit a little bit dark, and the drinks are unique. I got the Penicillin and I am not usually a fan of whiskey, but the honey and ginger flavors really appealed to me. It came with a giant (alcohol infused) ice sphere and tasted absolutely brilliant. My friend got one of the Chocolate Ball drinks and didn't really enjoy it. In all honesty, it tasted purely like a tequila shot - swirled with some melted chocolate. I don't know, maybe it would appeal to someone else. read more

Really cool underground bar with tasty drinks. There are a lot of fun options but you can also ask your waiter for some of their options off the menu. I really like passion fruit so they came up with something sour and fruity for me. They don't allow you to take pictures in the bar which was very stressful and testing for me but I survived (barely). It did make the experience more personal and special, though. read more

One of the best bars I've ever been to, hands down. We stayed upstairs at the U Prince hotel and visited twice. Mesmerizing atmosphere, fantastic drinks, and skilled bartenders who give real meaning to the term "mixologist." Try the authenticity presented absinthe or the zingy Jeremy swizzle (named, as it turns out, after Ron Jeremy and topped with a penis-shaped ice cube). Okay, so yeah, the piano player is a little earnest and bangs his way through familiar songs--and you'll get reprimanded if you try to take photos of the very-cool, gothic decor--but don't miss this gem. After hearing this place compared to world-famous cocktail bars like the Aviary in Chicago and Buck and Breck in Berlin (as well as to local Prague favorites like Hemingway), we were pretty disappointed by Black Angel. As others have said, the location is right in front of an absolute tourist shit show, and the hostess at the front is unpleasant. The menu is very, very long and full of flowery descriptions, yet we were only given one menu and denied a second when we asked. The waitress tried to take our order after 3 minutes - we were of course not ready. She came back in another 2 minutes, we were still not ready and she seemed rather irritated. The "rules" in the menu are also rather off-putting..perhaps it is simply a case of poor English, but the "no head coverings allowed" rule particularly clearly needs to be rephrased. I realize these cocktail bar rules are trendy nowadays and perhaps somewhat necessary given the location, but you're also not going to stop people from taking pictures in 2016 (I think the number of pictures here on Yelp should be good evidence of this). We had two drinks - the Botanical Collins and Jeremy's Swizzle Stick. Both were too sweet, though the Botanical Collins was a bit less so, and had a lovely subtle sage and juniper aroma. The Swizzle Stick was really unsalvageable. It was described as spicy/hot/heavy/sour but really just tasted like a sweet alcoholic lemonade. The cherry on top was the penis-shaped ice cube gimmick - really? Some of the drinks were in the 200 czk range (totally reasonable for this level of quality), but some were quite ridiculous for Prague. Their sazerac, for example, was about 15 Euro - what I pay in NYC or London! I'm sure the absinth in it, though unlisted, may be worth that much, but it's kind of off-putting to have that as your basic sazerac. Maybe if it weren't for the hype we would have felt better about the experience. I still give this place 2 stars because the beautiful cellar is an absolute must-see and worth the price of a drink alone. If you're only in Prague once and you appreciate interiors like this, I would still say this would be a good place to start your night before moving on to better bars. read more
