This black bear diner is so convenient and fun to go to. It's never too busy, and it has a great atmosphere and ambiance. The food like the other black bears is always delicious. The Reuben sandwich, hot open faced turkey plate, fried chicken plate, and nearly everything else is all delicious. The service is overall good too and there aren't many complaints with them. The only complaints I can think of are the pricing but that is expected due to inflation. And then the service at times could be better as there are times where sometimes staff may forget items, or be gone longer than expected. Overall, I would still attend this black bear diner any day. I totally get that it's weird to yelp a diner like black bear because it's everywhere, but I do have to say I have been to quite a few black bear diners. And this is probably my favorite one. Usually frequent the one in Pleasanton. But for whatever reason, we didn't feel like going to that one last night. So for a late dinner, we decided we wanted breakfast. And since we live in San Ramon, we ended up in danville. This is gonna sound so picky, but to be honest, I usually don't order hash Browns because I don't like the way that they come out at typical diners. Well, last night vain made my breakfast to perfection. I also had gravy and biscuits and I was actually surprised because the gravy was hot and the biscuits were soft and warm and it had the perfect amount of seasoning and salt. That usually doesn't happen for me in Pleasanton. The only thing I would say was a bummer. Was that the coffee that I ordered was lukewarm at best. The customer service was awesome. They seemed like a very happy team. It was nice and quiet even though there were other families there dining as well. I took advantage of the Black Bear Diner Birthday Club Reward and ordered the Bear's Choice Breakfast. I ordered two scrambled eggs, upgraded to two round sausage patties and French Toast. My wife ordered the Little Less Dinner Bear Paw Chicken Fried Steak. My eggs were nicely scrambled, thyme seasoning in the sausage was a bit overpowering and the toast was very good, crisp on the outside but moist on the inside. My wife's chicken fried steak tasted more like hamburger, mashed potatoes with gravy was tasty and the string beans with bacon tasted more like string beans out of a can. I enjoyed my meal and I thought my wife's meal was okay. Staff is nice and they are quick and prompt. I like the food and will be back to try the other items in the menu. The Danville location is situated near the I-680 Sycamore Valley Road exit, directly across from the Rose Garden Shopping Center. I met up with George F. here for brunch on 01/19/2025 at 10am. Upon entering, we were greeted and quickly seated at a booth on the left side. The interior was very clean. Decors were similar to other Black Bear locations. Our server got us started with a couple cups of coffee while we decide on what to get. After a few minutes of deliberating, George got the Rueben while I opted for the Joe's Hobo Omelette. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes. My omelette was delicious. It was loaded with three types of meat, cheese, and spinach and the eggs weren't overcooked. I requested my hash browns to be extra crispy and they were cooked to my specification. Everything was to my liking. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Coffee was refilled on multiple occasions, and our requests were promptly fulfilled. Prices here were less expensive than other breakfast spots in the area. With that being said my little guy wanted "panpakes" as he says so I obliged. I will be doing another review of just breakfast because I do think they have great options. Tonight my kiddo loved the mini volcano per usual. It has pancakes, sausage, eggs, and a piece of bacon. Everything was gone! My mom had the pot roast. She said it was a nice smaller portion but overall flavor was sub par. I had the california burger lettuce wrapped with cold slaw. The burger was ok but needed some sauce. The cold slaw was not good. It was dry and had no flavor. I was honestly shocked by this and do not recommend ordering it. Overall, we still love black bear. We love the diner feel and all of the cute merchandise. It's some whit fish, not sure which one, pretty sure it's not halibut though. It's probably pollock I think. It came with a big pile of chips (fries in American!) It included coleslaw and a salad. The salad was decent and had good tomatoes. The house 1000 island dressing was good too. The chicken fried steak is one of our FAVORITE things here and it was big enough for 2 people to share and be completely stuffed. We loved how crispy the hash browns came. It had definitely been sitting around for a very long time. The potato was very dry and discolored from sitting around for so long. I would have thought that 7:00 PM would be a decent time to order, but I guess they must bake potatoes and leave them to dry out rather than keep them in a place where they would at least taste like they were recently baked. We ate at the Black Bear Diner in Danville last night and it was a wonderful experience. My wife ordered the tri tip steak dinner. She said it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Her dinner was served with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and a biscuit. She commented to me how much she enjoyed her meal. I ordered the All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry dinner. The meal was very tasty. The fish was cooked in a light batter and had a crispy coating. The meal was served with French fries. Everything tasted great. Our server, Maria, was fantastic! She was always friendly and very attentive. We had a great conversation with her. She is such a nice lady. I also want to comment that our meal was served in a timely manner. It didn't take long to get our meal after ordering it and it was very hot, which tells us it was delivered immediately after it was cooked. This is only the second time this year I've been able to dine out, so a friend suggested going to Black Bear for a belated celebration. We got there around noon and quickly greeted. We were lead to a booth in the east interior. The west side was busy but not full. We were given menus which includes a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. With some indecision, I asked our server Jessica what some customer favorites are and she mentioned for big appetites, The Grizz. Its loaded with just about every breakfast item you would want, too much for me so I asked about lunch. Jessica suggested the New Classic Cheese Burger Basket which I overlooked on the menu. That was perfect so I ordered a single patty and unseasoned fries. Meals arrived shortly after. Presentation in a basket is classic and simple. The burger was nicely wrapped in paper and the fries hot and crisp. There was lettuce, slice tomato, slice red onion, dill pickles with thousand island dressing. The brioche bun was soft and warm. The burger patty is just under 4 oz so if you are hungry, order the double. I cant say anything wrong with Black Bear. For a diner they offer something everybody would like, even desserts. He's been the cook during lunch the last 2 times I've been there and the guy knows how to put what I call " slap", on his meat. My very first time at a black bear diner Oh gosh so much food. But I was happy with it. Ordered a Huckleberry shake, I'm not 100% that's what it was. But it was very good. I always enjoyed this location and never had any issues with their "seasoned" servers, but obviously they have gotten a new server, the other day we waited 10 min to order after hostess got our drinks, order came out incorrect but never saw our server again, she never checked in if we needed more drinks or if everything was ok. Finally we had to get up and ask for check, she came out from kitchen chewing and still didn't ask if everything was ok. Maybe remind your new servers that a little means a lot.
