Stayed for two nights in one of the lodge condos and was very disappointed in the room as were others in our group with similar rooms. The room was very dated felt like something out of the 60's. The heater roared at night, the bed was uncomfortable with a ragged comforter that needed to be replaced and the pillows were lumpy. Found the rental agent at reception to be very unfriendly. The site is beautiful and looks like they could invest some money back into their rooms. I would be nicer about it if it was an inexpensive room but did not feel that the price was warranted or matched the feel of the other public facilities which are nice read more

Condo was nice but very dirty, Full of bugs and cobwebs in every corner, spiders everywhere, The grounds and landscaping however were fantastic the bistro staff complete fail, The most common phrase uttered by the bistro staff was we can't do that it's not on the menu, I could get a ham and cheese omelette but I couldn't get a ham sandwich? I could get a cheeseburger but I couldn't get a grilled cheese sandwich? Although I was able to get grilled cheese sandwiches for my children earlier in the week... when I asked the gentleman behind the counter how that could be he said well that was an old menu, it's like the bistro staff was put out by having to do any customer service, I actually overheard them speaking about another guest and they said "those kind of people think they can just get anything they want because they have money" how do they know who has money and who doesn't? I actually quit tipping because it was no longer on my menu! You get better service at McDonald's or Burger King, There was however a shining light employee I don't recall her name but she was late 40s early 50s short brown hair and glasses, golf courses were immaculate, pool was fantastic and clean... The views you can't be bought! Wow! Herd of horses running by our window every morning. But the room we stayed in, well I've stayed in better Motel 6! Carpet disgusting, I didn't want my dogs on it. No sitting area only 2 beds. Lights didn't work. Heat stuck on full blast. Tub didn't drain. The mattresses came from the Goodwill! The price should be according to the quality of the home/condo. This would encourage home owners to keep their homes in better condition. My husband played 5 rounds of golf and made friends with some home owners. People were very friendly and pleasant. And really you can't have two Barista? Maybe one that Can open before 0730? No other offerings? Not a bagel a scone ? How about a continental breakfast, all the big kids are doing it! read more

Overall a poor experience when it comes to the lodging. Stayed in the condos at the lodge. We came to the resort at 4 and our room was not ready. Was told we would be called when it was ready... Never was called. Ended up in our room at 7pm. Late to dinner by 8pm. Provided coffee, creme, and machine... But no filters? Ranch is nice, but it has nothing to do with the owners or the staff. If I was you, I'd stay in one of the rental homes. Poor experience. read more

Renter beware! I'm sure there are nice houses here but ours was a total dud. It was a perfectly preserved piece of the 1970's complete with shag carpets everywhere and unrenovated bathrooms. This wouldn't be so bad but pretty much nothing has been updated, including the ripped sheets that were too small for the beds (so wouldn't stay on if you lay down). We've rented many houses over the years and this is one of the worst -- it is so dated and shabby it really detracts from the beautiful setting and casts a damper on your vacation. Went for a visit to see what all the fuss is about. The area is beautiful and there seem to be lots of amenities. I love the many bike paths and areas for children to play. The pool looks great, too. I definitely would like to try renting there. I'll review again later. read more

Had great Halibut special over Soyaki glazed veggies and rice. I skipped the curry coconut sauce and just let squeezed lemon bring out the flavor. Adrienne made fresh iced tea for us and kept the glasses full. Bread was warm and butter soft. A great meal - keep the quality of food at this standard and we will keep coming! Over the last several months my fiance and I had been looking forward to a friends wedding which would be taking place at this resort. We saved and blocked off this particular weekend with both of our employers as a great chance to use the vacation time we had earned. Our first night there went fine, we stayed in one of the lodge condos and sat out on the deck listening to music via my fiance's new Ipod Touch. The next morning we plugged the Ipod into the charger in the wall. As we left for breakfast I noticed the Ipod on the bedside table as we left thinking- I guess we will be ok leaving it out as there is no housekeeping or anyone with access to our room. (I thought this as there was no "do not disturb" door tag offered). We walked to breakfast at the nearby lodge and upon returning about an hour later- I noticed the bed had been made and trash taken out. We gathered our stuff for our bike ride that day and when we went to get the Ipod touch- saw that it was missing. We turned our room upside down. There is no way someone could take it from housekeeping (we thought). When realizing that someone had actually taken the cord (in addition to the Ipod), which left just the plug in the wall, is when we realized it was actually stolen. The head of housekeeping was decent with us and went through all the trash and laundry insisting something like this had never happened. We weren't comfortable "accusing" anyone- but there was no way around it- the Ipod was stolen and housekeeping was the only option. (There were 3 girls in our room for the job.) The police were called, and a report was taken. The 3 girls were then called out to the site leaving my fiance and I in an awkward position as they were questioned right outside our front door. Of course they denied it, of course they did not have it on them or in their belongings. It had been over an hour or more since they had been there and they were called specifically to our condo. Of course the guilty party would get rid of the evidence. The policeman was very helpful and respectful and suggested we go to the administrative office to inquire about the next step and what could happen re: repayment or some form of compensation. The woman we spoke to was insulting and patronizing right from the start. When we asked if she could call us after she speaks with the police officer- she said "Well no, I won't call you- you can call me." What kind of customer service is this?! We are the guests- you are the management- we have now spent hours of our vacation on something terrible that occurred in your establishment. You can call us back- that's basic courtesy. No report back to us and now it is Sunday- we go to check out and again inquire about what can we do? An item was stolen from our room that was worth $300. Of course we didn't want housekeeping to return so we went without. We spent our time here trying to make the best of a terrible feeling after being robbed, and we were treated with disrespect. The final offer made to us as compensation? "I will give you $20- you can go and get breakfast, how's that?" How is that?!?! Terrible. DO NOT SPEND YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE-THEY DO NOT VALUE YOU AT ALL. read more

One star is for the amazing view. The rest of this resort is awful! The staff was rude, dismissive, and had no idea what was happening around them. We were sold a ski package, and when we got there, everything ski related was closed! The cabin they put us in was terrible! Literally everything was broken, and the rooms didn't hold any heat to the point we couldn't sleep at night! The last straw was when our door literally could'nt close or be locked, and they didn't send anyone up to fix it! They said if we left immediately, cut our trip short, and drove home over the pass in the dark, we could have a full refund. Still have seen no refund and am STILL getting the run around! Most unprofessional place I've ever been! They think they can treat you with the utmost disrespect, and demand you pay top dollar just because of the location! Never EVER come here! I've been to so many different resorts in the sisters/bend area, and this is by far the WORST! read more

We stayed here on our 10th anniversary. The room was alright except on our deck was about 40 people from the next condo over. We were told we'd have a reserved parking spot, but no luck since the neighbors were having a party. That meant we had to park in overflow parking. Called guest services and got the response that there might be a police officer out there, just talk to him. Wouldn't mind if it was a house, but all condos are connected and this is very loud. No refunds on cancellations, so I guess there goes $500 for a relaxing weekend. Would not recommend this place. read more

Be careful when you check out! They try to charge you for a key card they slip into your check in paperwork. This key card was not used or necessary during any part of our stay at Black Butte Ranch. It was given to us in an envelope with a map and many other papers. It was never discussed that fees would apply if this card was not returned nor was it asked for at check-out. I am very unhappy about this and the way you conduct your business. We stayed for a wedding this past weekend and waited to check into our room, and didn't get it until later in the evening. We weren't even able to shower before attending a rehearsal dinner. They also didn't give us our welcome bag, we had to ask for it. Once we were given our room, it was late and our room was not even cleaned. There was dried blood in multiple spots on our bedspread. Extremely disgusting and unsanitary. If you make guests wait this long for check-in, the least you can provide them with is a clean room. The morning of the wedding the bridal attendant was extremely rude on multiple occasions and did not put the brides need first. She never came back to clean the used dishes from breakfast from the bridal suite and the photographer was trying to take pictures in there. There was also a spill that she didn't care to hear about on the stairs where the bride was entering from. read more

I am taking time out of my vacation to write this review, because unfortunately I have already wasted hours trying to find an employee at Black Butte Ranch to show some semblance of customer service. I am currently staying here for Labor Day weekend. I was so excited to escape the city and spend some quality time in Central Oregon. I am grieving from a death and thought the combination of amenities and outdoor activities was just what I needed to engage my mind in other things and relax. Yesterday afternoon, when I arrived, I noticed the small room was not quite what I thought I would be getting by spending almost $185/night. Next, I found a colony of ants on the bathroom floor and in the shower. I also discovered that the seal is broken on the shower and floods the bathroom floor when you use it. I called the front desk last night to ask let them know the issues. The woman I spoke with was extremely nice and apologetic, however was unable to do anything about it since it was late. She said someone would call me back in the morning. After not hearing from anyone around 830 am, I called again, because I had to leave for a spa appointment at 9 am. I spoke with Amber. When I asked about being switched to a different room, she said maintenance would "take care" of the problem. They sent out two members of their maintenance team who proceeded to set up ant traps. I told them to please refrain from spraying any bug killer, because I am sensitive to the fumes and the room is small with limited ventilation. This was a nice effort...I guess. I found it hard to believe they had no other rooms they could put me in, because there are no other cars around where I am staying. After they left I asked myself why I am paying $185 to stay in a room with a leaking shower and ant traps laying around. I called back and requested a manager call me. In the meantime, my sister who is staying with me called to see if there were any other rooms available because she couldn't believe there were no other options. Remember, Amber had insisted there were no other rooms they could move me to. Low and behold, there was a condo available. My sister proceeded to ask Amber why this room hadn't been offered to me, because I had asked about moving rooms. My sister said Amber was extremely rude and proceeded to tell her that it was an "upgrade" room. She also told my sister that this problem needed to be solved between the manage and guests. My sister told her that she would be there in three hours and she WAS a guest. When my sister arrived to pick up her key and parking pass it was Amber who gave it to her. She knew it was my sister and didn't apologize for her rudeness, or offer my sister directions or any kind of map to the lodge room where we are staying. I finally spoke with the manager this afternoon after I got out of my spa appointments. Yes, I spent around $300 at the Black Butte Ranch Spa. At least the manager was nice. She has learned customer service 101. She finally made it known that I could upgrade my room if I wanted to pay the difference. Had this option been offered initially, I would have taken it. However, after spending hours trying to convince Black Butte employees that I deserve a clean room to stay in when I am paying $185/night, and after paying $300 at their spa, I decided I am not going to give them another penny. The customer service was atrocious. By the end of my conversation with the manager, all she offered was a $50 voucher at their bars/restaurants. I hope to save anyone from wasting their money at Black Butte Ranch. They made no effort to make my experience good. I have spent the same amount of money at Sun River and have to say I would go back there in an instant. read more

Our waiter Bill was friendly, helpful and even offered to see if the kitchen had anything we wanted but didn't see. They had everything we wanted and more. My husband and I spent two nights here with friends in an average, just barely nice enough, rental house (priced at $$$) and really loved just about every minute of it. We rented bikes about 20 minutes after arriving and kept them until about 20 minutes before departing. The vibe, as I read it, skews multi-generational privileged white families with children and grandchildren coming together in an outrageously beautifully pristine and safe private environment. The place is absolutely gorgeous. Golf, swimming, biking and more. Because the setting was so natural and remote I initially anticipated a Mayberry RFD level of friendliness from other guests/members. It has almost a 50's-60's throwback feeling about it. But other guests/members kept to themselves with some but limited returned 'hello's' or 'hi's'. It's expensive but discovering the place for 3 days and two nights on bikes was a 2016 summer highlight and well worth it. If we go back, we'll take family or friends and enjoy again. read more

We went horseback riding, bike riding ,swimming at all 5 pools, hit some golf balls, played tennis and watched a wedding from the Aspen Lodge while enjoying some cocktails. Lodge Condos need updating. Housekeeping needs to look at how they are cleaning and perhaps get better training. The Condo was not cleaned well. Cobwebs and dead bugs in corners. Mini fridge has been cleaned in a long time. Fans were covered in dust. Our air conditioner did not work. Wifi rarely worked. The staff at the Bistro were not very accommodating. Staff at most places didn't seemed like they were inconvenienced by having to do their jobs or were annoyed to have to help. The map needs updating. I was never able to find the recycling center or dump for overflow trash. Signage is awful. Main lodge pool was gorgeous. We were their for a wedding. The food was cold and had no taste. Cake was stale. Bartenders were good. View and grounds beautiful. Some staff were awesome and personable others rude and put out. Never knew what you were going to get. Food at Bistro was good. Nightly rate over priced. No one ever came to clean our room. read more

I've been going to black butte with my family for years and it is one of my favorite places. The views of the mountains, meadows, and lake is really incomparable. The best part is that it's a well kept secret so there isn't much traffic or too many people like other vacation spots. There are forests and bike paths around the whole place and tons of stuff to do outdoors. I really recommend going here with your family. My family has been staying in golf home 254 on snowbrush and it's definitely one of the better houses here - big enough to sleep a few families. read more

I appreciate the efforts by the staff to waive certain fees for us after the house we'd rented turned out to be, well, a disaster, but I still must say that this was a big disappointment. NOT the wonderful pools, the terrific little lake where we kayaked and paddle-boarded (small but fun), and the water aerobics class that was top-notch, but like other reviewers here, I found the house itself fairly awful. Never mind that we couldn't check in until nearly 5:30, meaning a bunch of food in our cooler was ruined, plus the kids were hot and cranky, etc., but the rank smell of too much partying inside, plus the puddles of vomit on the driveway, plus the crap and waste all over the yard was too much. We don't be back. BB's reputation as being the finest vacation resort can't hold up unless something is done about the homes, the tacky furniture, the broken-down appliances, scratchy cheap sheets on the beds (whatever sheets the Mark Spencer Hotel uses--buy those). And why rent to drunks who want to throw food and get sick all over? Too bad, because the exterior of BB was sweet, and the people who worked there (paddle board guy especially) gracious and helpful. read more

Black Butte is not the place for a 1-night getaway. There is no "lodge," only "lodge condos," featuring small rooms without any of the amenities expected in a $185 room in central Oregon. Check-in is not until 4:00 and check-out is inflexible at 11:00, no exceptions. The bike paths are nice but unmarked, which extended our ride much longer than expected when he had trouble navigating. When we enquired as to the lack of markings, the woman at the welcome center said that the "owners refuse to put up signs." The Lodge Restaurant has excellent food although a bit pricey, but it is the only alternative for dinner. The "espresso bar" was a major disappointment, staffed by only one barista (which resulted in a long line) and lacking in fresh baked goods. Black Butte would be interesting for a multi-day trip in a rented house, but if you are just looking for a quick one-night or weekend getaway, I recommend going elsewhere...you will be far more welcome and get more value for your dollar. read more

We recently returned to Black Butte and were in a one room condo on the lawn. The service was worse than it had ever been! No way to contact anyone in charge to help with: 1) getting ice for the room; 2) finding out about which restaurants served what; 3) disconnecting a noisy refrigerator encrusted with ice and which we could not access to unplug; 4) insulted by pool "sign up" system - STUPID for guests! 5) terrible lunch menu - NO ICE CREAM?; 5) no in room safe; 6) poor check in registration information. The "modern" round shower curtain poured water all over the floor, we were bothered by an unannounced visit by service people late in the day asking if we wanted new towels (no information that this would occur). To be told upon check in that we had to BUY ICE in the market was insulting. We will not return unless new management is announced. Someone is not paying attention.....like the manager! read more

Our family has been visiting the Black Butte Ranch Dining establishment for several years now. Generally we stop in route to business trips in the area. As we are a hands on trade company our attire is not business suits, but work boots and working clothes. Nothing against suits. We may not be dressed up but we are clean, professional, trade people. July 2, 2015 we stopped at Black Butte for dinner on our way back from a long hot day. We wandered around the grounds admiring the new rec facilities. Upon entering the main lodge we were greeted by two employees we have come to know, and a third we didn't, inviting us on in, upon our questioning if they were open for dinner yet as it was just before 5 o'clock. At that point we confronted the dining receptionist who looked us head to toe and told us if we didn't have a reservation they couldn't accommodate us, and the lounge would be better suited for us. We had a very nice time in the lounge, the staff was friendly and professional, our waitress Misty was very accommodating, our food with the exception of a new seasonal menu missing many of our favorites, was great. As we enjoyed our meal and the company of the table beside us we noticed very few people were coming in the lodge. As we left we looked back towards the dining room and saw that only two tables were filled. It was then we realized we had been cast out for our dress. I have never seen any posting as to a required dress code. Apparently the color of our money is not good enough for this establishment, and one person, being the front receptionist has ruined our relationship with Black Butte. read more
