Very high priced, food did not warrant the price. Not a brewery, just a restaurant serving craft beers.

This place has a ton of potential, but even more problems. Good food, decent to good beers, but the service and wait staff are completely incompetent and lazy. That don't understand their jobs and they don't ever move with a sense of purpose. The employees working the front hostess stand are well intended, but not well trained and are in no way efficient or effective. I gave them 3 tries, but I'll never go back...and we live just footsteps away. read more

I ordered a half BBQ sampler to go. I was told 15 minutes and after 25 minutes I asked a manager. She checked with the bar and the bartender came over and helped get the order ready. Second visit to Black Drum didn't disappoint. The food, atmosphere and service was outstanding. We had the best fish and chips anywhere on the Grand Strand. The fish fillet was almost 2 inches thick with the right amount of breading. Head Chef, Joseph Lilly gave us a preview taste of a new Shrimp Pizza. (Not on the menu yet.). I wanted to give them a great review. What they do well is servers and hosts are super nice. Unfortunately, that is where it ends. We stayed at the Embassy Suites Kingston Resort. Hence captive audience is given only 3 restaurants to walk to. We actually ate here twice, to give them a second chance. Water for the table 1st night 30 minutes we had to flag a server. 2nd night 20 minutes at least. Then again no taking our order for over 40 minutes both nights? The order comes out no plates? Another 15-20 min again we have to flag someone down. So basically service on both nights was awful. Not blaming the servers. Management stinks that is clear. Food finally comes on the first night. Mussels are great (no plates), prezel also good. Dinner was pulled pork sandwich worst ever had, two salads that are large but the ingredients were rotten like tomatoes & lettuce seriously do better with, a burger with mac and cheese. Mac & Cheese was iced cold and not good. How does someone ruin mac & cheese? 2nd night Individual boil pretty good, again no plates given, BBQ sampler, pulled pork gross really gross, brisket great, chicken ok, ribs great, AGAIN NO PLATES. And these items do not work on the four tops because they come on giant platters which would be fine but they don't fit on the table with anything else given we were not given plates not as big of an issue. LOL So disappointing. Management clearly has no clue. and this is not a Brewery they do not brew. read more

Fantastic view! Hilton did it right building this space to compliment the area. We didn't eat but all the food we saw folks eating, plus the fragrant smells makes us wish we did. This place is busy with pool service so be aware you could wait a little bit longer than expected for bartenders to get to you. It pains me this has "Brewing" in the name when they do not even brew any beer. They'd be much better off rebranding into a beach bar with the location they have, but the quality needs to improve for it to be a success. Came here for a large family gathering and we were so underwhelmed by the the food and our experience. The entrees were overpriced and as others mentioned, this place, while they have a ton of craft beer on draft, is not actually a brewery. We got the chargrilled oysters and at $24/ half doz, they were a flop. Blanketed in paprika and luke-warm. My kids split a $14 3 piece kids tender meal, with fries and an extra side of fruit. I had a half salad that wasn't too bad and reasonably priced at $12, fresh ingredients and a good vinaigrette dressing. My husband got a pulled chicken sandwich that was alright. Solid 3.5 for food. Nice huge "pretzel"($15) with good beer cheese and fantastic seeded mustard. Did not see 40 beers on list but 31 is pretty good even if they did include Bud and Michelobe. :) Husband got the brisket burger and it was perfectly cooked. Nice pretzel bun, nice bacon, good thick cheddar slice and fresh toppings. He liked the battered steak fries. I ordered the lunch special BRIE-L-T and I regret it. The Brie was a spread and not a hunk of cheese. The bacon was plenty but undercooked. Yellow tomato was appreciated but the sandwich was ruined by the bread that was SOAKED in some oily substance. It was soggy and spongy and just terrible I am sad to say. I ate the one piece of bread with the smear of Brie and ate a1/2 slice of tomato and truly could not eat the rest. My "roasted" potatoes were maybe parboiled and greasy. I did not have a roasted flavor or text her. They were maybe 1/2 cooked but I ate them because I was hungry. We were not there during a rush- 2 pm ish. All the barbecue stuff that was going by to other tables looked good so if you eat here, I would suggest to eat the smoked meats. I really wanted a Lowcountry boil, but there is a tiny typed wording that says only after 5 PM and I missed that when I was looking online. This is not a horrible place. No, there are not a microbrewery in spite of the name but they do plan to add that eventually. It's very clean and the ambience is nice. There's outdoor seating and indoor seating. I found our waiter to be less than stellar, he was a little offputting as well, and he never asked if my food was good. This place is a one and done for me. I can see a lot of people enjoying it. I wouldn't tell you to stay away, but I would tell you to ask about the preparation of your food before hand. read more

Had drinks from the bar while enjoying the pool at the resort so we decided to try the place for supper. Several empty tables in side and out . We checked in with the hostess and there was going to be a 20 min wait . No issue with that so we went outside and sat at an empty table. 5 min later , we were told by a snarky waitress to get up as the table was for seated guests only. Rude ! Excellent food, service and atmosphere. My wife and I decided to stop by for dinner. When we arrived we were told they had about a 10min wait. Sure enough- just a few minutes later, they were ready to seat us. Once seated we were quickly greeted by Martin who was an excellent server! He recommended cocktails, appetizers and entrees. We each started with a pink palmetto which is a tequila cocktail that had grapefruit and jalapeño- it was delicious. For appetizers we tried the scallops and an order of the smoked seafood dip- the scallops were fantastic!!! The smoked seafood dip was perfect with the smoky flavor combined with the seafood... it was superb! For dinner my wife got the grilled drum and I got the BBQ sampler board. We shared bites and the entrees were incredible!!! Martin took excellent care of us and the manager, Sydney, stopped by multiple times. The experience was A-1. The venue is gorgeous with outdoor seating and live music.... Incredible spot!!! Unfortunately, I'm not a beer drinker so I can't review the beers but I did notice a ton of tables with beer flights trying the different beers they had on tap. We can not wait to return! read more

Our first experience was for dinner. For an appetizer we had the brick oven seafood dip which was really good. For dinner I had the pulled pork, french fries and Mac n cheese. Everything tasted good. I also had a IPA beer flight. The IPAs were not as hoppy tasting as I'm used to from where we live which I prefer. Our server however was non existent. All the other servers were running around but at times ours was nowhere to be found for lengthy periods of time. One time when I was emptying the septic tank of my camper it leaked and got all over my hands and arms. That smell is the exact same smell that greeted us at the bar this evening at Black Drum Brewing. It was awful. Normally I would just shut up about it but I would be remiss to not mention how awful the bar service was. We were in tonight to get apps and a few drinks. There were four barkeepers for 4 people at the bar and while they were all very chatty with each other none of them spoke with or paid attention to the customers. Our beers were empty and they simply weren't paying attention. I felt like they could have done a lot better service wise. We didn't bother eating because our vibe and the smell of the place were all wrong. The one beer that I did get was pretty good and it looks like they had a lot of options, but I think this place needs time to mature and to get their customer service act together. Seated quickly with a reservation. We both got the brisket sandwich with fries. The fries were tasty and crispy however the brisket was not just dry but like chewy leather. It couldn't be eaten as a sandwich but had to be eaten piece by piece. Our server we had no problem with. He was kind and helpful. Disappointed in the brisket considering how much we spent. Atmosphere is top shelf. Establishment is at a excellent location to see the pool and ocean. The beer selection is impressive. Service seems to be hit or miss. Visited a few times and some excellent service and sometimes not so much. Pizza is a solid choice as is the pretzel appetizer. Price seems to be driven more by location than quality. If you're staying in close proximity this is a ok choice but if you're off site, one may prefer other alternatives. read more

Black Drum is conveniently located within Kingston Plantation. It's sleek building is easy to see with the Black Drum Brewing logo. While we did take our food to go, the restaurant its self is very hip and modern. We picked up our food and it was prepared on time. It was packaged to keep it hot and we were provided with forks, knives, napkins, and sauces. I would highly recommend the Carolina Cobb salad. The black drum gives a little pizazz to this traditional salad. I would also recommend the battered fries with bacon and blue cheese, so good. Services was very good. I gave this review a 3, because one of my kids got the chicken tenders and fries meal. She notes that they did not taste fresh or homemade. Instead they were similar to the ones I buy frozen and cook in the instant frier. Honestly I expected something better, but the steak fries were great that she ordered. read more
