Mary's School is one of the best preschools in Boone. Both of my daughters are students at the…read moreschool and their time spent there has been invaluable. Mary Willis and her staff do an amazing job with the kids and sincerely care about each and every child they come across. During the year Mary writes a report on a child's progress and meets with parents to discuss it. When I have shared these reports with friends and family members, they couldn't believe how detailed it was and how lucky I was to have such a great teacher for my kids. At school, the kids learn through doing hands-on practical activities. From preparing their snacks to washing their own dishes. The children also learn from each other. Mary uses the older children as teachers to help the younger children. This fosters independence as well as raises self-esteem. Children are also encouraged to define their own boundaries by being allowed to say no to others. This also teaches them that it is okay when others say no to them and to respect their boundaries. One of my favorite things is that the kids are allowed to get dirty and messy in order to explore and learn new things. They play outside every day and learn how to socialize with peers. My kids love it at Mary's School and I have seen how much they have grown in the past years as a result of what they have learned there. I would encourage any parents to start their child's education at Mary's Montessori.

The teachers are all such wonderful people who we 100% trust our two boys with and they try so hard to provide a protecting/fun environment. Used to be an actual Montessori when it was ran by the founder, who has passed away. Now its your…read moretypical struggling daycare with a miserable manager. My kid cries all the way there and says his classroom is too cold and that kids hit each other but the teachers don't care. Every time I see another kid getting dropped off they are crying too. Parents aren't allowed in the building so who knows what is going on in there. I think the business might be upside down because they will not return messages about billing questions (they promise refunds but don't deliver). They pick and choose which parts of covid policy are convenient for the staff, ignore the rest, and freak out if you question it. They let sick kids in who get school canceled for everyone but charge you full price anyway. Sad to see, so we are on to somewhere we can enjoy.

Five Oaks Academy has serious problems, i was never a student there however my boyfriend was and he…read morecame out of that school extremely depressed, from my understanding it's not the teachers that are the problem but the admin, i would like to call out one admin in particular, Susan Brown, Susan Brown is NOT someone you want around your child as she did absolutely nothing when my boyfriend was called the f slur, or bullied, or called names. I don't care what political spectrum you are, or your beliefs, we should all agree that an adult in power should protect the students from not just outside threats but to real, life ruining, trauma inducing, bullying that happens inside the school and Susan Brown failed. She failed as an admin, she failed as an adult in school, she failed as a protector, and she failed at being a kind person. Looking on greatschools you will find multiple other reports that bullying is a major problem at this school and the teachers turn a blind eye to bullying both physical bullying and verbal bullying because it's up to the admins to administer punishment, and you know what person shouldn't be at the head of this? I'll tell you, an admin who doesn't care about the bullying. I would also like to bring to light that i believe she didn't care about my boyfriend being called the f slur because of her political belief.

Five Oaks Academy is a truly amazing school and community. You don't often find places this…read morecommitted to the growth and development of children in such a truly supportive environment. I'm sincerely grateful for the strong academic and personal skills, confidence, poise, and independence my children developed in their years there. FOA has struck a perfect balance between being academically challenging but completely supportive. Truly one-of-a-kind. My only complaint is that they only go through eighth grade, but I know my kids were well-prepared to continue to thrive in high school.
