Les Oliviers - Marinated South African Lamb dish

Absolutely Worth a Visit…read more Les Oliviers is that rare and wonderful type of restaurant you want to take note of and return to again and again. Sitting a bit off the beaten path high on a ridge, guests have a 180-degree view of the Pyrenees mountains and the beautiful valley just below the restaurant. With seating inside and out on a beautiful terrace, the eclectic décor is a mix of classic bistro, rustic western, and shabby chic, and somehow it really works well, putting one instantly at ease. But you don't come to Les Oliviers just for the fabulous views or cool feel-good decor, you come for the food, sometimes eclectic really good food. First off, Chef Grant makes the best beer battered fish & chips in France. Seriously. And it's not small, it's a huge fillet. As good as the fish & chips are, the rest of the menu and the every changing specials also delight. One 'must try' is the Espatada d'Agneau, a kebob like skewer of lamb that has been marinated overnight in a South African mix of spices then grilled. Served hanging high above a pile of house made French fries, the skewer's handle is filled with butter that slowly melts down the skewer, coating the lamb chunks and dripping its spice loaded juices onto your pile of fries. It's amazing. They also have a regularly changing selection of steaks and grilled meats - from giant pork chops to spicy sausages. One of my favorites is the grilled ribeye served with cowboy butter. Where else in France are you going to get that? And if you're lucky, you'll be there on one of the rare days Chef Grant makes his 7 day marinated tomahawk special. It's enough for 2, but you probably won't want to share. Cocktails, beer on tap, and a nice wine list ease any troubles, and the front of house is kept running smoothly by Chef Grant's lovely and amazing wife Jean (she mixes a mean Negroni BTW). Bottom line: Really, really good food, incredible view, tasty drinks, and nice people. Can't ask for more. P.S. They are building 2, yes 2 BBQs, one with a rotisserie. You better believe I'll be going back!

A group of us ladies had lunch together on a Tuesday afternoon. Admittedly, I was pleasantly…read moresurprised how wonderful everything was. First - Atmosphere. The location and ambiance are both stellar. Located on a side street in lovely Aurignac, the restaurant sits atop a hill with sweeping views of the Pyrénées and rolling hills. Every table has a view including outdoor tables for warmer days. A definite must visit in the summer. Second - Food. The food was extremely yummy. There were several options on the eclectic menu but we all opted for the same thing; a chicken schnitzel with a creamy cheese sauce. It was sort of like chicken parm but no tomato sauce. They have several hot sides salad bar style, like roasted tomatoes, couscous, potatoes, etc. I only had the couscous but it was light and fluffy. We split a bottle of a wonderful Rosé. The best part of the meal was desserts (as it should be). We all had the sticky toffee pudding, which was well-spiced, warn, runny and so, so good. Last - Service. Service was wonderful. Kind, helpful and attentive. I will definitely return here but will bring my husband. 61/61
