OK, it's early days for Black Rock Beach Club and I will happily come back and update my review if things change for the better. In the meantime:
Positives:
Great location.
Excellent outside seating.
Good music.
Nice kids' play area.
Clean and tidy (unlike its predecessor).
Negatives:
*Utterly useless staff.
Limited choice of drinks.
Expensive.
Probably not as good as Greenacres' new Marina Bar.
* I realise this is a new place and the staff are finding their feet but still have a few comments:
* The staff do not interact with the customer at all, other than asking you what you want to drink. They just talk loudly between themselves and come off as rude.
* When I ordered my first drink and paid for it the girl behind the bar forgot to pour it. When I reminded her, a colleague did so (without apologising), overfilled the glass so that it spilled all over the bar (without apologising) and then passed a dripping glass to me (again, without apologising).
* It was quite windy and my glass blew onto the floor, so when I next went to the bar I ordered my drink and asked if they minded giving me a new glass as mine had been on the floor. The girl that served me passed it to a colleague who ran it under a running tap for about three seconds and then put it on the drainer. No washing up liquid, no attempt to wash the rim of the glass where my lips had touched. Bear in mind that Covid is still rife!
As it stands I'm disappointed with Black Rock Beach Club. Like many, I've been watching its transformation and looking forward to being able to drink there. The management need to get a grip on their staff quite quickly otherwise the novelty will wear off and people will go to Greenacres for better service and much cheaper drinks. read more
