Lately though, the management has decided that they only need 1 barista to manage the drive thru and the lobby. Alone. The wait time is insane, and the baristas, who are all doing their best, are certainly showing the ware and tear. And having one person closing....by themselves....is INSANE! Coffee is great but as a long time customer, I'm not impressed with their new reward system, you have to buy at least 12 drinks to get a free medium drink and need 170 bolts to get any size free drink. It's a rip off. Not to mention with their new update notice their cup "new" cup sizes? 16oz is the size of the old 12oz and 20oz is the size of the old 16oz another rip off, oh and the price increase. Came today to redeem my birthday drink. I show her my code and she scans it and tells me there is no birthday reward. I ask if I can show her my ID, and she says that "there is no birthday drink comp button" so they can't. I go to my app profile and show her that my birthday is today and in the system as so. So the system clearly didn't put my code through. She tells me she can't comp it and that I either have to pay or use points to redeem a drink. I come to black rock multiple times a week and have supported them for YEARS. So disappointing that they treat people like that, really left a bad taste in my mouth. People are not an app, they are not a QR code. Clearly this was a technical issue that she easily could have rectified. Went ahead and told her she could keep the drink and drive off. When you ask for a dark roast coffee, you expect a dark roast coffee. Apparently, Black Rock doesn't carry dark roast coffee. They attempt to masquerade a dark roast with a overly strong americana using sour tasting, regular roast beans. To top this off, they charge 15% more than Starbucks. read more

Love this location for several reasons...it's got lots of comfy seating including a fireplace area, the drive through is long and easy to maneuver in a large vehicle AND the staff are great! The menu has consistent hot and cold drink options along with a rotating pastry section. If they have a pop tart or crodonut.....try them! So yummy!! The multiple seating areas make sitting for a bit to enjoy your beverage and treat so much more enjoyable! read more

I showed up at 9:30AM and bought the very last croissants to an absolute dismay customers behind me. Coffee choices are great as long as you want dark roast. I waited in line for counter service. I ordered a large a Carmel brindle blended, paid 6.30, gave tip, and then waited some more. Finally after waiting for 20 minutes I got to the counter and asked the girl for my drink. She said wait, then proceeded to pull out her cellphone and call some guy. I waited until her call ended and asked for my drink but she walked away. At this point I was 30 minutes into my order with no end in site, so I left. Too make matters worse I paid for the drink I never recieved and tipped your employee to ignore me. Worst experience in my life. read more

black rocks always good my favorite coffee shop. this locations gone down hill with customer service. the best part of black rock was they made it right no matter what. customer first "I dropped my drink getting out of the car". "that's okay we'll fix it"- the new app is garbage can't redeem a free drink and it's the customers fault. my normal orchard location would never new customer to regular. one point this location was my normal customer sensed they opened. between the customer service and distance. I used to come here almost everyday before, everyone was super nice and friendly until a couple months ago. The service here is awful now, the girls are mean that work here and talk back to their customers. A couple of girls made me a coffee drink and made it wrong, until I was able to reply "it's fine" she then goes " we're not going to remake it" I was in shock. She was very admit that she was not going to make another one and I decided not to give a tip due to how rude it was and her and another girl had the urge to roll their eyes at me in plain sight. I love Black Rock Coffee. And the people who work here are very personable and friendly. So the only reason why this review only has two stars, is due to the inside of this particular building. It's a hot mess. Waaaaay messy. I took one recent pic, (the only one inside cuz I usually go in the drive thru) and you can see in that one boxes laying around, furniture scattered, and just not a comfy sight. Coffee spots should be comfy. If not traditional vibey comfy, then sleekly modern lines comfy. Black Rock tried to go towards the latter, but job not well done. I like the 20 something's that work here. They are well mannered and seem to have been raised well. Lol. I'm not much older then them, but you get the idea, there are a lot of "kids" around that age that just don't do well with people. But these do. But....either that's the point, that they were raised not going chores around the house, or management at this BR is too easy on them. The place was screaming to be dusted, wiped down, floors need sweeping (gasp, it was CRUMMY all over the floor I almost had to pop a Ativan immediately), need mopped, fingerprints all over glass/doors/bathrooms, just....pick up a rag please and clean the place up. You know when you move into a new place, and there are random boxes slightly open still, tape hanging off but stuff not put away, and you put your ikea desk back together but never found where you wanted to put it, so it's in the middle of the room, lonely with scratches on its cheap top...and your floors are all black and/or are so dark EVERY little dust particle or muffin scatter shows on it?? Ya that's this BR. Which is THE big problem, if the interior looks that bad...how unclean are the utensils, espresso machines, and rags etc? But the coffee is still awesome. They have long lines in the morning becuase they don't use their speaker box for ordering, not to mention they are constantly getting orders wrong even after confirming what you ordered with you. And, they get it really wrong. I've ordered a Chia Tea Latte with Alomnd Milk and recieved a straight black coffee while another time I ordered a Hazelnut Latte (again with Almond Milk) and recieved a black coffee with cream. I reached out to the company and heard nothing back. Minor mistakes are one thing but mistakes that can and do make people sick is another. As a paying customer, I refuse to pay $7+ for the wrong drink and then to not get a response from the company about the wrong doing, I probably wont be back. read more

First time in a Black Rock location. Tough spot surrounded by four Starbucks and other coffee places. No one inside and one car in line. The girls were very bitchy and acted like they needed some coffee and attitude changes. Maybe they could learn from Dutch Bros (kind of far from here, wish I went there). I am extremely pleased to write a five star review for this despite the long line (because frankly it was worth it). I am so pleased with the exceptional customer service they provide. The folks that work at Black Rock are extremely kind, quick, and pleasant to speak to. The coffee is absolutely delicious no matter what kind I've tried and I am not usually a coffee person. I like that they have a lot of sugar free options as well as non dairy alternatives. Their reward program is really awesome too especially since you can double down on them (I got one free drink and a $1.50 off I was able to combine). I will definitely be coming back, and am not surprised they have such a loyal base and line that wraps around the business (don't worry--the line goes fairly quickly). read more

My drink was no where near as satisfying or aesthetically pleasing as it looked in the picture. I got a negative vibe from the drive-thru lady and nearly excused it because I understand that everyone fights their own unseen battles and she could've just been having an off day, but she also wouldn't help us out by throwing away a small cup that was in our cup holder prior to the visit to make room for our drinks so we could comfortably be on our way and that was the last straw. To conclude, there are many other options out there for beverages, and you will not see my face at a Black Rock anytime soon. read more

This is one of the best tasting coffee shops. I love mocha and pretty much anything chocolatey, and this location has a wide range of mocha selections (hazelnut mocha, caramel mocha, caramel white mocha, among others). I have gone to try one every day I've been in Vancouver, WA and they have yet to disappoint me: every day/order has been a success. The caramel blondie, caramel truffle, and hazelnut mocha drinks are awesome. Plus, when there is a young male barista the order is ready just as you are done paying, and made all from scratch! They really take pride in their drinks, their creations, and their pick-me-up is evident! They have some good pastries I have yet to try. The strawberry scone needed a bit more flavor. We stopped here on our way through town and had a very positive experience. The person at the window was VERY friendly. You could tell that she was still learning the ropes, but everyone there was helping each other to make for a great customer experience. Even with very specialized orders, they did a fantastic job on both of our drinks. The espresso shots were very smooth and not bitter at all. I've been a regular at BlackRock for 5 years, and I think it's time for others to realize what type of business they're dealing with. BlackRock sold off to a corporate group a couple years ago, and ever since then, their business has been managed HORRIBLY. The staff they have at their Hazel Dell location has always been wonderful, as they do a good job hiring. However, theirs a poor lack of communication between employees and the company and there's been employees who have been fired for simply bringing some concerns to the company. About a year ago, they took their $4 Flavored Rockstar off the menu, and substituted in a flavored energy drink of their own. Based on the reactions from customers, this drink is widely considered as a worse-tasting off-brand Rockstar. Those who ordered flavored energy drinks didn't want this change. But BlackRock saw an opportunity to save money by producing their own energy drink instead of working with Rockstar. But that's not the end of their greed, they raised the price by 50 cents! So here they are, selling a worse product to save money, and they're charging their customers more. Now, this drink is extremely overpriced, so something I would do is get "light ice" so that I got more drink, and felt like I wasn't overspending on this crap. But they also made the decision to limit the amount of drink you'd get for your $4.50. So now if you get "light ice", the employees aren't even allowed to top off your cup. My location also just went through a remodel, where they promised a "new and improved BlackRock" for their customers. However, BlackRock didn't engage with any of their regular customers on what they like about the location, and what they might like to change. This is ironic, because their Twitter bio reads "Dedicated to creating lifelong relationships by intentionally engaging our neighborhood"... Yet they engaged exactly 0 customers with this remodel. Every regular customer that I've talked to hates this remodel. In the end, this is a very greedy company masquerading as a customer-oriented coffee shop. It used to be a locally-owned business which cared about their customers, so it's a shame to see the greed infiltrate every aspect of this once-great business. read more

I absolutely love this coffee shop. I come here often with my mom and I've never had a bad experience. The employees are really nice and always ask how your day has been going. Their smiles are contagious and will make your day more pleasant. The drinks are tasty and will boost your energy. If I had to add anything for them to improve on is the drive thru lines can take some time to get through but it's only expected from coffee shops so no hard feelings. Black Rock sets itself apart from other coffee shops by giving off a clean cut/polished appearance, making the customer feel sophisticated and better than everybody else. I think it's funny that the same person that wrote a bad review on the coffee shop that is privately owned not that far away from this one wrote a bad review on one in Hazel Dell and one in Orchards. It's really bad business when your customers or your employees write bad reviews about to coffee shops they probably never really been to. I don't actually know how the coffee is at this particular Black Rock. But I know I would hit up Starbucks before I would get coffee at Black Rock and thats hitting the bottom of the barrel. I do not endorse Starbucks. Their coffee is just as bad and it's really bad business when your customers or your employees write bad reviews about two coffee shops that they probably have never really been to. Previously had a four star review up because I recently switched from Starbucks to Black Rock and have been extremely happy. The employees are really nice and the coffee is delicious. They always offer my dog a treat and they always seem very genuine and happy to be at work, which is refreshing. HOWEVER- today ended my patronage at Black Rock. The employee was very nice as always (male with earrings in both ears) but when I handed him my black rock card, a $5 and a $1 to pay for my large iced latte, he never told me what my actual total was, and then while presumably trying to distract me with a story, he took my change and put it all directly into the tip jar without my asking him to do so. At first I thought he might have been taking an in store customers money and putting it in the tip jar but then when he handed me my coffee and never provided my change I realized what he had done. I don't like confrontation and I really didn't feel like having to ASK for the change he should have given me, which looked like a dollar bill and some change. I just drove away without getting my change but I won't be able to come back now. I really don't appreciate that and I also wonder how many other customers he does this too. Someone who is busy or not paying attention could easily miss that their change was thrown in the tip jar. It felt really shady and super disrespectful of the customer. I tip when I am able and/or feel that the employees exceeded my expectations etc. I'm sad this happened because I was really happy coming to this establishment roughly five days a week. read more
