Visited during Whitby Folk Week, so I may be a little biased, but this was one of the venues for impromptu sessions by various musicians, as well as a partly-planned blues and rock session on Wednesday night. These usually entailed various singers and musicians dropping in for a few tunes, then going on to somewhere else a joy to listen to.
The pub seems rather bare when first entered, but rapidly improves once others join you. The staff are superb and serve some good quality drinks, including regular real ales.
Everything is clean and basic an ideal pub for Folk Week. I can imagine it doing quite well for the more regular holidaymakers as well. read more
