    Blueberry Spritz

I've eaten at this Black Walnut location a couple of times over the years. I've never had any issues, until my most recent visit back in November 2025. The restaurant is connected to one of the main parking garages. The first two hours are free which is convenient. It has a more casual feel because of the counter service setup. I like that they have a large menu. We visited on a Sunday afternoon which meant we had the option to order from the brunch menu. The dining area is a good size and they also have a nice patio which is where we sat. The staff was nice, but they were slow at times. The biggest issue was with the food. I ordered the Chicken Tenders which came with Fries and Honey Slaw. I also ordered a side of Broccoli. The Fries and Broccoli were cold while the Cole Slaw was too salty for my taste preference. The Chicken Tenders and dipping sauces (Cayenne Ranch and Honey Mustard) were tasty. One of my dining companions sent some of her food back because it was also served cold. One of the employees was going to reheat her food, and she had to ask for a new order to be brought out (which they reluctantly did). For my beverage I had the Blueberry Spritz which is a mocktail. It was very good and refreshing, but took quite a while to be brought to the table. The staff was nice enough to grab extra napkins and utensils for us when we asked which was very nice of them to do. Maybe it was just an off day for the staff and hopefully they have fixed the issue with serving cold food that is meant to be served hot. I'll wait a little while longer before returning.

Had the pleasure of stopping by this afternoon for a quick pick me up and found heaven in a stack of pancakes with some honey whipped butter. Deliciousness can be found on every page of their menu. I sat on the patio in the beautiful weather and felt right at home !

I have no been to this location for over 5 years and wanted to stop in. Spinach dip was good, however I had to ask a couple of times for my additional appetizer that didn't make it to the table before my entrees as requested. I was almost done with my entree before my philly egg rolls made it to the table. Now my entree, I asked for no tomatoes and no mushrooms. As you can see, both are there. 3 ppl ordered the same pasta at my table and they switched all the orders. We had to send them back.

The concept of walking up to the counter to order and then proceeding to a table works well if you've been here before or have had time to review the menu. For first-timers, though, it creates an odd situation--do you take a menu to the table to figure out everyone's order, then go back to the counter? And if a line has formed by then, are you expected to head to the back? That part of the process could be better. Once we placed our order, the food took a little while to arrive. The Steak Frites, Pot Roast Dinner, and Coconut Shrimp Tacos were all decent--not over the top, but okay. The vibe is open-concept, clean, and bright. During our visit, a large table of about twenty teens made the space a bit loud. Street parking is available, and it's a nice area for a walk after dinner. All in all, not terrible--just decent. Service was mid server came by maybe 3 times. Food wasn't good. French toast was too sweet and the steak was too chewy. It was raining and we were seated in the outdoor patio so ambiance wasn't really there.

I ordered at the counter before finding for a seat. A staff member introduced herself, and said she would assist me in anything I need. My food, Avocado Bacon Benedict was served to me 10 minutes after ordering. I expected my food to be warm. But no, it was slightly below room temperature. That is boo-boo number one. Boo-boo number two: One of the poached eggs was cooked perfectly. However, the other was overdone. Boo-boo number three: The bacon was hard instead of crispy. Boo-boo number four: The avocado wasn't fresh. Boo-boo number five: My side of potatoes was hard. Either they were reheated or they were cooked earlier in the morning (My food reached my table at 11am). The restaurant has a beautiful interior, and friendly staff. Free street parking and garage parking is available. Garage parking is free for the first 2 hours.

The front desk staff were the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience. I ordered the Big Breakfast and waited 30 minutes for my food -- unacceptable for a breakfast spot. When it finally arrived, my eggs were severely undercooked, still half raw egg whites. To make matters worse, not a single staff member checked on us for the entire duration of our meal. For a place that already struggles with wait times, the least they could do is follow up on the food they're sending out.

I couldn't tell if this was counter service or menu service as it's kind of an odd space. However, the food and drinks were pretty good. We went for a work trip and had the wings (amazing), lettuce wraps (good and lights) and excellent chips and queso which actually had a kick to it. Service was awesome with drink refills and everyone being attentive, but the counter ordering was just not the experience we were looking for. Good stuff and nice outdoor dining too.

Lunch meeting with my colleague, I was not very hungry so I ordered the southwest chicken salad and my coworker ordered the shrimp Alfredo fettuccine all was great. Parking lot was packed but I went around and someone was coming out in front so I got a great spot. It was quiet and less traffic around that time so we got to eat and talk in peace.

I have been going to Black Walnut for years and there are several reasons why I keep going back. For one, their menu is huge! Every time I try one thing, I immediately want to visit to try the rest. The restaurant itself is spacious, neat and beautiful. The liveliness adds to the ambiance. The servers are friendly and helpful, with prompt and respectful service. Whether dining it or picking up, the experience has always been positive. And not least of all the food. I LOVE the Asian glazed Atlantic salmon meal. The cook on the fish is perfect and the flavors pair excellently with the mashed potatoes. The quantity is large and filling, making a great meal. The chicken cobb salad is also fresh and very tasty. I was surprised to see vindaloo wings on the menu and was delighted by the appetizer. The marinade was tangy, but not too spicy. For something more traditional, but delicious, the blackened shrimp fettuccine alfredo is the way to go. Honestly, can't go wrong!

THAI PEANUT CHICKEN WRAP and SWEET POTATO FRIES

I usually get the same thing every time I come here, but this wrap was calling my name and it did not disappoint. When the server came out with my plate, I literally gasped because of how huge it was LOL The tortilla is super soft, the chicken is tender, the cabbage/slaw gives it a good crunch, and it had the perfect amount of peanuts inside. The peanut sauce was also very tasty. And let's not forget about the sweet potato fries, they are always a must for me. I highly recommend.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like Black Walnut as much as I did. My prejudgments were definitely kicking in, but we needed to give the kids something to eat to prevent a nuclear meltdown. We walked in and ordered at the front desk. We sat down, and even though the drinks are self serve, we were frequently asked if we wanted refills on drinks. Our food came out fairly quickly, and everything was great! My wife and I shared a blackened salmon blueberry spinach salad, and we really enjoyed it. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and even though I'm not big on sweet salads it worked well. The kids burger looked good, I was able to sneak in a few fries and they were nice and crispy. Overall I was impressed and would definitely return, especially to this location.

Atmosphere is great, very open, bright and clean. Staff are all friendly and helpful. The birria dish was so huge and delicious. The cheese on the Benedict wasn't great. Would get the birria dish again, but would pass in the Benedict. The pancakes looked amazing for next time.

For my visit, it was crowded but not to where you couldn't hear your table. Dress is casual, good for friends, solo, or pit stop. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was our first visit there, she gave us some background that it was a Pappa's owned restaurant and food is made from scratch. Food: 3/5 They offer mimosas and I was tempted to order, but was driving and it was 9AM so forewent that option. There are food options for every tastebud. Mark ordered the fried cheese sticks, they were one of the items that I found worthwhile to return for. I opted for the Waffle feast. It included a waffle, that I added pecans on top to, two strips of bacon, eggs your way and hash browns. To say that I needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs and hash browns because they tasted bland and flavorless was unfortunate. It also was served at room temperature, because it was made from scratch, would think it be warmer to hot. The waffle was savory and had good mix and topped with the pecans made it even better. If you're on this side of town and want a change up from the "other breakfast diners" DOT would be where I stop. Fast, friendly service. Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

What I eventually found both surprised and delighted me, and Nate's gets a thumbs up overall. Pictures are deceiving as I thought the place would be larger but it's a tight fit for bigger groups. There are only a handful of tables but plenty of character. It's also a bit grimey, unsightly and even a tinge dodgey, which may be a deal breaker for others but is an immediate appeal to me. Two things immediately standout when it comes to the food: the portions and the prices are outstanding. The offerings are as no frills as the rest of the establishment. The other surprise was how much influence there was from Mexican cuisine. Hash browns were the goal, but chorizo and chilaquiles were the bonus. Another surprise? The hash browns weren't as crispy as I would have wanted. It's entirely plausible that I came on an off day, which happens. However everything else was on point as my chorizo skillet was absolutely dynamite, pancakes were fluffy and indulgent, breakfast tacos were outstanding, and my eggs were perfectly softly scrambled. Even the bacon and sausage patties were delicious, which is a tall order considering it's not likely made in house. Lastly, as someone who drinks cold water like it's a hobby (#1), I'm especially grateful for the massive 32 oz cup of water, which is perfect for someone who drinks like a camel. The staff is not the quickest but they are friendly. Spanish may go further with most and they're not the quickest when it comes to greeting folks or cleaning tables. The food is the star and consider paying in cash. ____________ (#1) I'm thirsty.

Thanks for telling our 3 small children that at 9:30. Reluctantly after telling him no several times it was awkward enough to cave. Cookie took about 20 minutes to come out. We had been there for over 2 hours at that point and we had to just get up and leave. If you go to this restaurant after reading this, you deserve the horrible experience you will certainly have.

They had live music on, and from the looks of it if you want to be a part of the show you can as they also have karaoke it looks like. The gentleman that greeted us was so nice and made us feel so welcomed! It wasn't one of those "oh I have to be nice to these guests because I'm getting paid" type people, you could really tell his niceness was genuine. I felt like I was at a fine dining restaurant. Our server was also very nice, and super helpful as I asked for a wine suggestion and she hit the nail with her suggestion. She brought a small sample for me to try before serving it. The food itself was delicious! We got the onion rings appetizer, and you could tell they were made to order. They were super fresh and also crispy. The chicken parmigiana was good, and they were not stingy with their portions at all. The picture I took doesn't do the dish justice. I will definitely go back to this place, as their food, service and overall experience is a great one when you dine in.

OK, so this turned out to be a surprisingly good meal and much better than we had expected. We shared a bowl of the potato soup where we had no expectations and I thought it tasted pretty decent. But the real test was the entrees. Mr. Picky ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp while I opted for Veal Parmigiana, and we each stole a bite from the other's plate. We reached consensus immediately that both dishes were well-seasoned and quite delicious, meaning we would return for more good food in the future. Seriously, we hadn't expected much when walking in and looking around, but were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen's efforts. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.
