It's so rare to find a hotel that's actually willing to accommodate a pet as opposed to turn their nose up at your poor pooch, but this place will bend over backwards for Rover. In fact, your pal might find a friend in the form of the owners' own dog. Near to Churchtown, this animal-friendly headrest is ideal for either couples or families and the family-run nature of the place means it's kind and considerate. Rooms are perfectly adequate, with comfy beds, fridges for your own drink storage, a TV with not only a DVD player but DVDs to watch, excellent breakfasts and complimentary sweets. Not just a few thrown on your pillow, a whole basket of the bad boys. The manager is so very sweet and the staff are warm and welcoming, but on top of that the prices are ridiculously competitive, especially for such a nice area of Southport. You won't believe you're paying so little. An excellent little hotel and the lovely dog is just fabulous. I was most impressed. It was a short stay but I was always in a good mood throughout thanks to that place.

I arrived in Blackpool before the rest of the hens, so owners April and Mark (and Fifi the dog) were happy to let me hang out in their bar area and kept me company as I waited for the troops to come bounding in, excited about what the weekend had in store (mainly male strippers, drag acts and a hell of a lot of booze). Once all the hens had arrived, April ran through a list of health and safety dos and don'ts with us - all part of creating a safer environment, which I thought was a good idea, considering we'd all be getting pretty damn wasted later on. There is CCTV in all communal areas of the property, which is also reassuring. There are 14 rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, TV, tea and coffee facilities and up to five beds. I shared a room with four other girls and although it was a bit of a squeeze, it provided a comfortable base for getting ready, napping between bars and passing out in the small hours. I managed to sleep well, thanks to earplugs and an eye mask, however, one of the girls said they woke up around 4am when she heard people arguing on the street outside. When she looked out of the window, she saw a man with his pants down! Well, this IS Blackpool...! Breakfast is served in a cute back room, where you're welcome to eat in your pyjamas. Everyone's in the same boat so it's full English breakfasts all round, accompanied by strong coffees and fresh orange juice for a much-needed vitamin C boost. If I dare to go back to Blackpool (I'm still suffering today), I'll definitely stay at the Hayward again. It's super-close to Blackpool North train station and just a stone's throw from the town centre and seafront. And with over 30 places to eat within a half mile radius, you really can't ask for much more.

Very large portion compared to restaurants in England. The ambience was very quiet due to the National holiday. More people were in for drinks rather than food. The service was excellent. They gave us some tips for sight seeing and the most efficient use of public transportation between the bus and train services. Would I come back? Of course. The town seems to be very secluded and quiet. If you are looking for big food portions, this is a good stop.

We had the set Christmas menu and the food was very nice but 2 of the meals had to be heated up as they were a bit cold. Despite all of this we had a great evening. This place has great potential. I stay at this hotel every year its clean and tidy,the food is soo good,the drinks are cheap and…read morethe owners are the best its like being at home on holiday i have never had a complaint about this place the rooms range from £20 to £22 a night i usually stay from monday to friday in may and it only costs me £68 that includes breakfast,they do a evening meal too for £10 a head which i think is very cheap,the only problem is is its not disabled friendly but its a old building so what can you do.the hotel is located at the south shore across and down the road from the casino and ten minutes walk to the pleasure beach but even though its close its still quiet i`ve had the best night sleep here they have shops,restaurants,nightlife and taxi or trams close by so you can get werever you need to be i cant say enough priase to Julie and Steve they make me feel so comfortalbe just like parents they even send me a xmas card every year and if i`m ever in the area i always go and visit them.Stay here if your ever in Blackpool you wont be disapointed,
