I had the opportunity to take a vacation in June to K Bar L Ranch in Montana. Not only was it a…read moreneeded vacation but one that allowed a full disconnect. No cell service, no internet, no TV, no vehicles, just your own two feet or horseback to get around. To get to this ranch is typically on horseback, packing in all the items on a mule or a trailer behind the draft horses. But if you time it right they will take you by boat to the Y of the Sun River which is were the lodge is at. Three meals a day are provided with the package and you can decide what you want to do for the day. Horseback riding to the mountains, hiking up the amazing trails, fishing in the river, or spending the day in the sun in Medicine Sprinsg. (Natural Hot spring) This is also fabulous after a long hike btw. The meals are delicious, the service is exceptional, the cabins are basic, yet perfect. (I have never slept better) The outhouses are modern day bathrooms with showers. For you hunters out there, I hear the Elk hunting is amazing. The scenery is breathtaking. That release of the constant need to check your phone slowly disappears. To worry of what's going on with the stock market fades away. The appreciation and gratitude for every minute in the day skyrockets. The reminder that the journey to the top of every mountain you climb is one step at a time, so enjoy each step! After hauling ass through Wyoming and up the slight grade of the freeway into Montana in our…read morepathetically weak Chrysler rental it was a relief to finally find this retreat near the end of a dirt road. Rich and Trudy seemed to be the goodwill ambassadors for the entire Cascade area (as well as the local wildlife). Their B&B is isolated enough that we felt far and away, yet it was well-equipped (Trudy's dinners were well worth what she charged), and they both take pride in excellence not just in the upkeep of their facilities but the overall experience of their guests. We couldn't be happier with our all-too-brief time in Montana with the Hayes'. Of note is that this spot would be perfect for those in the fishing crowd, though there are a few nice walks back into the mountains or even along the non-operational train tracks down below running along the river and through a rock face. They even have horses which are not ready to ride yet, though it wouldn't hurt to ask about in the next season. Oh, and there are deer everywhere, lots of them, all calm as peace itself. Rich and Trudy were hilarious, informative, and welcoming when we were around them, but made it easy to be alone and gave us plenty of space without us hardly having to think the thought. They also had some great suggestions on hikes, activities, as well as driving routes and Montana attractions. This leg of our trip was definitely one of the high points of our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Rich and Trudy and hope to be back very, very soon. Rich, Trudy: thank you so much! We used our boot mugs as soon as we got back to San Francisco.

I have to say, this was the most memorable part of our trip...Rich and Trudy are amazing people! Not only did I have a blast hanging out with them, they are such gracious hosts as well. I felt so spoiled because they always made sure our bellies were filled with delicious food and that we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Their place is SPOTLESS - a huge relief after a couple of nights spent at icky motels. Trudy and Rich hold very high standards and it shows. Also, their rates are really low and include a delicious home cooked breakfast every morning. The Ranch at Deerborn is surrounded by beautiful mountains, a river and old train tracks. Animals abound! Deer, horses, chickens, cats, a dog and even a very polite skunk named "Spot" kept us company during our stay. We don't fish but if you do, then you really need to stay here. It's right in the middle of it! We will definitely be back...hopefully sooner than later!

The lodge itself is spacious & beautiful, the chefs - Jeff & Courtney - are 5-star. Every meal we had was of the highest quality and prepared perfectly. The people who work there in the lodge are absolute top notch. We can't say enough great things about Laura, Shamra, Shaunna, Jill and everyone there who made sure that our stay was just perfect. We made some new friends, enjoyed amazing food & drinks and caught fish every day on the river. We both hope to come back again for this experience in the future.

The motel is in a small fly fishing town called Cascade. Our stay was quiet and comfortable. The spacious room was perfect and peaceful. Our room had two queen beds, two comfortable recliners, a wood table with two chairs, microwave, mini refrigerator, walk in shower with the usual shampoo, conditioner and soap packets. I'm tall and have rheumatoid arthritis so the knee's aren't too excited about bending sometimes so the taller toilet was great for me. They offer a single serve coffee maker (k-cups) with yummy flavored coffee! Flavored coffee..that's not something I've ever had offered to me before in any brand hotel. They also offer a snack bar in each room along with some water and gatorade with an ask for donations so they can continue to offer it for other guests. We loved this! Of course we will donate! Who doesn't need a snack when the store is closed late at night. Here you can get one! The parking spots are big! No door dings at this place! We liked this too! Park right up at your door for easy unloading. The parking lot is big so if you have a trailer or boat there's more than enough room for it. All in all this motel is superb! The shower house and laundry facilities were also clean. I used the laundry facilities and the machines were very clean. I was very impressed!!! Shannon allowed us to host our grandsons high school graduation party. We asked in advance and they said "absolutely". I will definitely return and stay. We were there 6 days. As we were packing up today they were installing Wi-Fi for the park and hotel rooms! I highly recommend the park. It was really quiet when we were there!

They go out of their way to make you feel at home. They don't treat you guests, they treat you like family. Thank you to Nikki, Josh and cowboy Nick for making our stay memorable and fun. This is a beautiful spot. The fishing opportunities are excellent and you can't beat the Bob Marshall wilderness for hiking and horseback riding. I've travelled all over the west and highly recommend this place.
