This super cute little coffee shop is a great stop post workout or following a hike at Runyon Canyon. My friends and visited after our hike, and I love that the coffee shop is super dog friendly! They even gave my pup a treat after giving us our food. I ordered a blueberry matcha, and the blueberry syrup is house made. It's sweet but not too sweet with the matcha. I went to Sonny's pizza yesterday for a 145pm pizza pickup and they were going to have it ready around 2pm, so I needed to kill some time and needed some refreshment after biking from hollywood and highland station. I ordered a cold brew coffee drink that was made with pecan bitters and other flavors with milk. It was very good. They made it fairly quick, and I sat outside in the comfortable seating while killing time. Its a pleasant looking place that seems to have some good special coffees/teas and baked goods. If you are in the area this place would be good to go to for repeat business. I certainly recommend it as a place to kill time while going to Sonnys. I hope this place gets some of that "spillover" business from them. They have a nice place and should be busy. read more

I have come here several times to do remote work, and from the first time I ever came to this place, they immediately started pestering me to purchase something before I could even get set up to work. Each time I assure them that I was going to be a purchasing customer, which I did each time and each time I did buy something. I'm not expecting to use their space and not give them my business, but what I won't except is how I feel like and this is my opinion. I have been disproportionately discriminated against because I came in today and they told me a made up story about me getting into it with the staff and another customer. I have no other way to look at this right now, except for some sort of discrimination. and that is sad to me because this place has amazing pastries, and beverages. a great ambience, but the staff could definitely use a bit of training on the sensitivity of how to deal with customers they look different from everyone else in the shop. read more

While working in Hollywood, I stopped here for breakfast one rising on a friend's recommendation and really enjoyed it. The space was mostly clean (could use some attention to detail as there was pet hair on some of the cushions) and inviting with lounge chairs and a colorful patio. . The blonde-ish woman at the counter donned a cute white graphic t-shirt and she was smiling and friendly. She walked me through a couple of menu options I wanted. My bf got the "Morning Wood" cold brew - also sour & bitter. There was a simple syrup bottle on the side but it barely helped; the sourness was too much. stopped by to pick up an order around 10:50 AM on June 13th, 2025. I understand that sometimes orders aren't ready right away that's totally fine. However, the way the male barista spoke to me was unnecessarily rude and aggressive. He told me, "We just got the order, it's not ready," in a very confrontational tone. When I responded that he could've communicated that in a nicer way, he said "Excuse you," and then told me to "Get out of here." There was no need for that kind of attitude, especially over a simple misunderstanding. I left because I didn't want to escalate the situation, but the experience was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. There was only a girl and this one male barista working at the time, so I hope management looks into it. After this experience, I won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone read more

Watering hole. For writers. What a jewel Blackwood has been in my nearly 15 years of living in the neighborhood. It's a space and place that makes LA not feel so impersonal and isolated. This place feels like a second home. Perfect space for meeting friends in the neighborhood. Not to mention a great 'think space.' We are surrounded by so many amazing and creative souls. And #blackwood feels as though it's taken over what #cheebos once was before Covid got the best of it. The entire team there of kind souls who serves up the most delicious caffeinated beverages. The coffee is the best coffee I have had in LA. Aside from the ambiance, coffee, food selection, I'm just so grateful there is an incredible space like Blackwood for so many reasons. Dogs and children stop in here and there. And there is also a little treats for the pooches! I'm sure this is why they enjoy their visit. The European barista is super rude and awkward. The entire cafe was empty ALL DAY and he kept walking around policing the only two girls in the cafe. (Making me move tables, telling us we can't sit the way we were and that our feet needed to both be flat on the floor). Then he proceeded to lecture us about how to behave in a public place (I could barely understand what he was saying his accent was so thick...). We just stared at him in silence with our earphones still on. At one point a homeless man came up to a woman outside and said super inappropriate things to her, to the point where she was yelling "GET THE F*** AWAY FROM ME, GO AWAY" and this guy did nothing. I'm not kidding, two other women had to scare the homeless guy away as this barista just stayed in the back staring.... It was super cringe. He doesn't seem to like people very much. Or You shouldn't work in public service if you're going to present super miserable your whole shift. And maybe, I don't know, protect the women in your shop from aggressive men that wander off the street onto your business. Won't be coming here anymore. read more

I was in the neighborhood for work and was craving some good coffee. This place popped up and so I parked and gave it a try. There was plenty of parking in the front. Easy to locate. You feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. The decor was trendy and has a very positive vibe They have some lounge chairs and a bigget table in the back. It took me a minute to decide what I was going go order. Everything looked and sounded good. The avocado took looked delicious and something I have to come back and try. Their croissants were big and looked pretty go to. They have a variety of coffees, lattes. and other mouth watering drinks. I ordered the Lavendar Honey Latte with soy. The order was ready quickly and there was a pretty heart design in my coffee. I love the little things. The Latte was very good. I was able to taste the lavender and honey. It was soothing and relaxing. One of my favs here! Can't wait to come back and to try the avocado toast and more coffee. If you need a place to relax and just take a little break, this is your place. I've been trying to find the perfect vanilla latte and this is IT. Seriously... I've tried every coffee shop in the area. The coffee is smooth and rich. The baristas know what they're doing and never let the shots turn. I LOVE that they don't use store bought syrups like Torani. Everything is made in house. They also have a cool house made milk alternative option. And the vanilla?! AMAZING. I really look forward to this every morning. Not too sweet, smooth and delicious. If that wasn't enough, the decor is so cute. A good place to meet a friend or sit and work. Honestly every detail just hits for me and I can't stop recommending this place. I really wanted to like this place, because it's cute, has so many great reviews, and it's close to my apartment. THE DRINKS / FOOD There were a few coffees that were appealing to me. A guy I met yesterday at a shop a few blocks down recommended the Vanilla Bean Latte. I opted for the Latin Cold Brew instead though, because the cashew horchata sounded interested. Also, it's dairy-free, so I didn't have to do any substitutes. The cold brew is SO good. It's not overly sweet like what you might expect to get elsewhere and it's super smooth. I didn't try any food, because they don't have an dairy-free options? There was a vegan cookie in the display, but I wanted something a bit more substantial. Which leads me to... THE SERVICE 3 stars... maybe 2. Is the staff here trained to greet customers? I inquired about dairy-free food options. The associate either didn't know the menu (maybe he's new) or they really don't have any options that are dairy-free/vegan. In 2020? Okay... After leaving, I went back online to look at the menu and it's look like there were actually 2 or 3 food items I could have ordered... but that would have required some assistance from the associate at the register. He glanced at the menu and quickly said there weren't any dairy-free options. THE VERDICT With tip, my bill was just $6, which is great. But I was torn about my rating on this one... Blackwood is my favorite coffee shop. They have a covered patio where my dog and I can relax with my favorite drink - Chagaccino. It's a mushroom based drink. The owner knows it's my favorite and he always asks if that is what I want. If I can get past the fresh pastries and avocado toast, then I will also order my favorite sandwich called the Bodega. They make their syrups and almond milk in house, so I know everything is fresh and of high quality. The vibe is always friendly. I've been coming to Blackwood for a few years now and it's always been pretty good and consistent. I came into the coffee shop on a Saturday morning with my husband and there was only 1 employee juggling many customers. We ordered one hot latte, an iced matcha and an avocado toast and paid $30. The bread was hard as a rock and tasted like it had been sitting out for days, we had to throw it out. They also gave us an iced latte vs to the hot one we initially ordered. Overall this location needs more employees in order to get the drink orders right as well as taking the time to make fresh food if they were going to charge that much for it. read more

This isn't the kind of coffee shop where you can post up for a few hours with your laptop. They don't have wifi and there weren't any outlets (at least when I attempted to look for some). With that said, the ambiance is was pretty minimalist and quiet, so I can see how it would be a good place to get some reading done OR come in with your laptop fully charged and with your own wifi hotspot. I ordered the jasmine honey iced coffee, which was decent. It tasted a bit more like a milk tea since the espresso flavor was so faint and there was just so much milk.
