We went here recently after being at the theatre and I was very surprised. After Loopy Lorna's recently closed Morningside has been crying out for a cafe with a bit of class without the pretention of the area and that avoids the 'apron with a scrunchy' style of some of their other cafes (Blush - that's you).
I saw they had a flat white on the menu, so I thought, 'fine, show me what you've got', what I got was a very decent flatty, dare I say it was at a similar standard to it's Bruntsfield neighbours Artisan and Project Coffee? I didn't actually see what coffee beans they were using but whoever was dealing with them certainly knoew what they were doing - what a revalation!
My partner and I opted for soup and a sandwich, both which were fresh and very tasty. While the menu was not extensive, by any stretch of the imagination, it seemed like they had deliberately streamlined it to avoid any association with the 'bacon roll patrol' and gone for a more upmarket, minimalist approach.
Decor is wooden but sharp, with shiny copper tables and confy chairs. Not much room for prams and no sight of a high chair which is nice if you have chosen not to procreate screeming poop dispensers!
All in all a very nice little place if you're down that part of town, also it's nice to see people make a decent coffee in that area. read more
