We went to Blake's Big Apple last night for the haunted hayride. The attractions are very expensive and I wasn't that impressed but it was okay. On the haunted hayride we had a young woman who was in charge of our wagon and she was a bit over the top with giving instructions and being bossy. I think if she wasn't so annoying I would have given more stars for the whole event, but she was really a downer. They stop half way through the hayride to give you cider and donuts which was really good. The hayride wasn't that scary so don't worry about your kids being scared. I would have liked at least one scream! read more

It's a great time at Blake's. You can enjoy all of the festivities for the fall season my friends and I went in a large group and did a package deal for the haunted hayride, a walk-through haunted house, as well as the area with animals. I have to say the real draw is the cider and donuts however you feel like a kid when you go. It's definitely for everyone and it's perfect for a family experience, but I have to say it makes a wonderful night out for grown-ups too. And they have a great system that makes it quick and easy to purchase what you want as you have gone through all of the fun haunting areas. definitely a fun experience starting a bonfire at Blake's big apple. Included in the price we got a s'mores kit and a gallon of their cider. It was a really cold night and we had a hard time keeping the fire on. We were constantly calling over folks that worked there to help out. They even brought a flamethrower looking thing at one point to turn on the fire. They just had a hard time keeping their wood dry so that kind of impacted the experience. read more

First time back at Blake's Big Apple in 3 years and it is just as delightful as I remember! We came at the end of September and that was the tail end of their honeycrisp apple picking availability so I'd strongly recommend that you come no later than end of September. When we pulled up to buy our bags ($1 each) for the u-pick and told them that we were here for honeycrisp, the attendant wasn't sure if there were going to be any honeycrisp left given that she thought they had been picked clean. Thankfully, they had 3 rows of honeycrisp trees available for picking and while the first 10-15 trees were slim picking, the further into the rows you went, the more bounty you could find and we were able to fill up 2 full bag/bushels with honeycrisp and honeycrisp only! If memory serves, I believe that Blake's Big Apple location is the only one with honeycrisp trees? So you won't be able to go apple picking for honeycrisp at their main orchard a few miles away. So if you're looking particularly for honeycrisp, go straight to Big Apple - they also offer a ton of other apple varieties too, along with pears, veggies, etc. We came here on a Saturday around 10 am and there were barely any people here, which was delightful so definitely come sooner rather than later if you can in the day! We stopped at the front building first to snag cider and donuts -- Blake's cider is A+, so I got a gallon and a cup to sip on while we headed into the u-pick area, but I can't stand their donuts - massive, dry, and cold, doesn't feel freshly made and way too dense. One donut was more than enough for me! It was also great weather (almost too great, going up into the high 70s - I'm looking for that crisp weather for apple picking my honeycrisp haha!) and the vibes were immaculate! Went to the Blake's Zombie shoot and waited over an hour stuck in the resulting traffic jam. Then another 4 hours in line for the zombie shoot (just a tractor ride with paintballs). Not a fun experience at all. Traffic getting there is insane and backed up over a mile. People attending are rude, probably frustrated with the traffic and extremely inflated prices. Definitely an unorganized, overrated, frustrating experience. Not recommended. Go to a local haunted house attraction for way, way more fun. read more

Blake's Big Apple, what can I say..... This place is... interesting to say the least. First of all, if you're reading this prior to going, here's two tips. Actually, three. Tip #1, be sure that you go to Blakes Big Apple, and not the cider mill. There are two locations, and nobody lets you know so here I am to help you out. Tip #2, if you're going to go, realize your time is worth more than $25.00. Pay the extra money and get the fast pass. Seriously. It will make your trip MUCH more enjoyable. You already sit in rush hour for a chunk of your life, why wait in a line for 3 hours just for a 17 year old in makeup to scream at you or your kids in the middle of a corn field, make it make sense. Tip #3, wear correct clothing. Boots if it's wet, jacket if it's cold, gloves whatever else, be comfortable. The food there was carnival style, good and cheap. Drinks were delicious along with the cider and donuts they hand out during the haunted hayride. The best attraction was the three story haunted barn but again, don't wait in the line, buy the fast pass for your own sanity. My girlfriend and I walked out with smiles on our faces and an October activity checked off our bucket list. Highly recommend! The only reason I knock off a star was because I want the owner to see this and put lights in the out houses!!! If I'm gonna use an out house, I'd like to at least see where I'm urinating lol. The cousins brought us to Blake's Big Apple when we visited with them in Michigan. We went inside their market shop, and we saw all kinds of nice stuff including plenty of bakery products. Wish they made Apple Cider flavored donuts. Tried their Plain Blueberry Cake donuts, Blueberry Sugar Donuts, and Cinnamon Sugar donuts. All were pretty good, but did not taste so fresh. We bought several items to go. Including Apple Slushies for the Wife and I. We both said that the Apple Slushie tasted refreshing and great! The Apple Cider that we bought was also tasty. We came to Blake's during the Halloween fun as we won tickets from the radio. The tickets included Zombie Paintbull, Haunted Hayride, Spookyland, and Haunted Barn. We got four total ticket packages. I decided to take my two younger siblings and my husband with me. When we arrived we went to the window and picked up our tickets. It soon started getting packed. The signs said sold out for tickets yet the line was still going and going and going. We went into the spookyland and most of the animals were put away. There was barely any animals. They haunted barn was a bit cute, it was for children and the kids all seemed to enjoy it. They did have this mirror house and go kart race track. Overall, it seemed okay, but it was sad to see the animals gone. They took forever to start the zombie paintball. We were sorta close to the front. It was raining. They said they had covers over the top of them. Three carts filled and all had a cover over top. We finally got to go on and they gave us one with no top. It was freezing and started downpouring during the paintball game. It was quite terrible. We all got soaked and the gentleman leading the ride just kept making jokes of it. We decided to not go on the haunted hayride as it was raining. We did decide to come anotber day that was allowed to do the hayride. It was interestjng and was not that fun due to covid. The actors could not cone anywhere bear us. They had like 6 actors total. I feel like they did a pretty good job considering the new covid restrictions. The new resrictions required less people on the hayride, masks, and no touching from the actors. The kids still had a bit of fun. We did buy a pie and it was absolutely delicious. It was the best apple pie Ive tasted. We also got some apple cider and it was delicious as well. We purchased two massive pumpkins and got to carving as soon as we got home. Get chased my the angry population of Blakes Bees... add... 2.00 per animal feed cup x4 another 8 bucks... I come here over Westview because it is more cost effective... let me rephrase that... nothing is cost effective when your coming here lol but here is my advice... come super early! Plan on wearing a mask. Bringing your wallet and a jacket. A half gallon of cider will run you 5.95. Entrance to the petting zoo and kids attractions are 11.95 a person. Then your going to get hungry so a combo was 11.95 and a hotdogs was 3.00... hotdog was reasonable I suppose... 40.00 for 2 bags of doughnuts, a cider slush and more cider... Then your kids are going to want to pick pumpkins they start at 4.00 for pie pumpkins and go up from there... 1.5 hours later you got your yearly orchard fix and everyone is happy happy. I could laugh at how bad this was, but every time I think about how much money and time I wasted at Blake's Big Apple, my rage is renewed. Granted, I haven't been on a haunted hayride in a few years, but I really didn't expect this mess. It was my boyfriend's first time visiting a haunted hayride. I chose a Blake's Big Apple because I remember that it used to be very spooky, fun, and atmospheric. They used to play creepy music, and have a really good narrative throughout the entire hayride. The sets were well produced and the actors were scary. When I saw the cost of ticket prices (I paid SIXTY dollars for two tickets to JUST the hayride), I was a little shocked, but I figured it would be worth it like it was in the past. I was comically wrong. After waiting in line for almost an hour, the ride finally began after a few awkward delays on the tractor. No music, no story. Just a teenager screaming weird things at us that were neither funny nor scary. Half of the actors weren't wearing any costumes at all, and were also screaming weird nonsense (two different actors asked if we wanted to play rock paper scissors lol). My boyfriend is disabled and is unable to turn his neck; almost every single scene where something was happening was on the other side of the tractor, so we just stared at empty cornfields for most of the ride. My friends that joined us couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of it all. One of my friends said she'd take the chance walking through the cornfields back to her car. To top it all off, one of the workers was walking around sprinkling glitter on people. Guests were clearly annoyed. The whole thing was just bad, bad, bad. I know the owners couldn't care less because the whole thing is just a money grab, but what an embarrassing ordeal. Haunted attractions and store review. With COVID, you need to get tickets in advance online. Spooky land after fees was $16. A bit steep, but first time. Activities go from 6-11pm. Spooky land includes corn maze, first floor of haunted barn, petting zoo (it's dark), some random bike obstacle. Other activities like the haunted hayride and paint balling cost more. There was a lot of people in line for those and it can sell out. I'm not sure why you need to get tickets in advance for Spooky land because it was come and go type of thing. Also nobody actually checked our wristband when we got it. Everything was fine. First time seeing it so it's interesting enough. Corn maze was super simple and small. Prices for donuts and cider are actually ok priced considering how commercial Blake's is. 1 cup of cold / hot cider is $3. They also have cider slushee at the store. They also have a full blown cafeteria with hot dogs and chili cheese fries ($6.50). I don't think they sell single donuts and you get them by the dozen. I think it was a dozen for $6, but not sure. The plain donuts were not good and my friend thought they were left from earlier in the day. It was deflated and sad looking. The cinnamon one tasted a little fresher. The store has fruit jam ($6.50 for the larger jars), fruits, veggies, bread, apple dumplings ($3) to buy. There actually wasn't as many people that I was expecting, but a decent amount. Check it out once, but wouldn't come back again for the haunted attraction experience. read more

We visited 9-22-24. The donuts had absolutely no flavor. Almost like there wasn't any spice in batter and no crust on exterior. Like eating foam. The cinnamon sugar ones were no better. The caramel apples were worse than store bought. Core was browning, caramel super thin and gritty. Poor flavor caramel. Nuts old. They are charging a lot to self pick apples, 25.90 for half a bag and up charge of unknown amount for honey crisp for some reason. Then they charge you a dollar for their bag you must use. Took the family on the haunted hayride on 10/18. They put us on the back of the wagon... which means we couldn't see anything. There was kids age 10-12 who were interrupting the worker talking the whole time. To the point where the worker was becoming super annoyed. Lots to do in the fun area even though it costs $13.50 a person. My nieces, nephew, and I did the corn maze, haunted house, bike rides, play area, and basketball shot. They also petted the animals in the petting area. After the fun area we did cider and donuts which both were top notch and pretty cheap. At the end of the day we did apple picking. We got there at 7, waited in line about 25 min for the hayride. By the time we finish the hayride the line was well over an hour. They go as fast as they can, but they can only go so fast. read more

I finally got out to Blake's for fall this year. The attractions were a smidge too expensive for my budget at the time, but other than that it wasn't that over-priced. They have gluten free donuts which is always a huge plus in my book. We got there around 10am so it was just starting to get busy, but it wasn't insane. The crowds were pretty well maintained. But if you have any desire to go during fall, absolutely go early. By the time we left around 3pm or so it was absolutely nuts - the line to get into the orchard area. But it wasn't bad to get out. They have a back route to the main roads to keep things moving along. I had a great time, and would like to go back. It's a bit of a drive for me but definitely worth it around the fall holidays. read more

A friend recently posted pictures from a similar place, an apple orchard with Halloween themed attractions, with the caption "participating in seasonal bullshit with my favorite people" and I was all like, "Damn, how's she gonna play Halloween like it's Christmas?" I mean, maybe Halloween is getting played out but I wouldn't call it bs, and all the daytime stuff here - apple picking, pumpkins, donuts and cider is just timeless to me. I'd probably be one of those people grousing about prices on here only I was part of a large group with a discount rate where we got to partake in all the attractions, with the fast lane priveleges and eat the barbeque we brought for $35 a head. We had a big open space way at the back to gather, too. All in all, it was pretty tight, so if you have a mess of people I would recommend it. The haunted barn was kind of mediocre to me but still probably too scary to really young 'uns, but they had another smaller one, called freak something or other where you walk around an indoor maze with 3D glasses with a bunch of spooky stuff painted on the mirrored walls in black light paint. Nobody jumps out at you - unless it's another devious maze goer not employed by Blake's - so I'd say that's more suitable for the rugrat set. Zombie paintball was my favorite part. I mean, I love blasting zombies, who doesn't? You got to take those buggers out before they eat your brains! You're going to want extra ammo, and fortunately the group I was with had a canister of paintballs to reload your gun when it empties but out on the zombie trail they juice you for another $10 for refills and I nearly went for thirds, and sure enough I ran out of ammo on the last leg of the circuit. (They stop at the last zombie encampment and let you unload everything you got so you don't end up paying for paintballs you don't use.) The haunted hayride was fun, too, apart from our host's groan-inducing succession of lame jokes. Watch out - there's corn in them thar fields! Get that theatre student out on the trail playing some execution victim or something! Halfway through the hayride, we made a lengthy stop where some nice witches brought us cider and donuts. Yum! And as luck would have it, we got in the full hayride just before it started to rain. All in all, Blake's is some pretty good seasonal fun. I don't know that I would pay this place a visit every year, but I'm glad that I did in 2017. read more

We went on the Zombie paint ball safari and paid $100 and it was horrible. Actors just stood there, and they wanted to charge riders and extra $10 for more paint balls. Went to the Big Apple as a date, wonderful place, super friend tractors drivers! Food was pretty good but expensive, but when we got to the animal section, there was no people attending the animals or making sure they weren't in harm. it also looked super messy and the animals were all living in filth. all covered in flies, the one alpaca had a family of them living directly on his nose:( the rest of the herb picking and staff were friendly, just seems extremely short staffed or they just don't want to take care of the animals. read more

This is a great spot. You can pick apples, pet animals, play games, climb hay bales, go on pony rides, pick pumpkins, go in scary fun houses, play on play scapes, go in corn mazes and so on! Go early on a weekend if possible because there's less people. The store sells donuts, apples, caramel apples, other apple desserts, hot cider and squashes-- so if you don't want to go on the hay ride and do your own apple picking, you can still take home apples!! This was awesome for our nephews-- so many fun kid activities. You pay for a pass that allows you to do all the activities, or you can pay for them individually. read more

I've been spending a lot of time learning about where my food comes from and wanting to support local as much as possible. As much as I enjoyed the visit and gluten free donuts (which were covered in two layers of plastic for some odd reason) I'm disappointed at the pricing. It's so expensive it's restrictive when it should be trying to increase interest and bring people in. You know it's crazy expensive when you see McDonald's packets in the trash cans. Knowing more about quality of soil and what it should look like also surprised me. Instead of mulch they use plastic and the soil was sandy with no life in it. I can imagine they are using synthetic practices to fertilize rather than proper composting. It made me sad this farm. I hope they change their practices. With the space they have there is room for food and seasonal food education and increased nutrition. They have year round offerings. If only they learned to steward the earth. read more

APPLE FRESHNESS ONLY - 2 stars This was in Sept/October 2018. I figured they would be freshest right from the orchard and I only went to buy apples for both pies and eating. I could not use my apple peeler as the apples were mushy, the peeler pushed right through the core. Apples were old (mushy) but not rotten. While they still made a decent pie they were not good for eating, lacking in crispness. And I did get a variety of apples in order to make a good pie.
