The locals hang out and drink beer and eat ham. I guess you would call that hamming it up. It's all about the ham and the ham is damn good. It can get load and hard to find a place to stand or sit. Usually this frenetic vibe throws me off, here I like it. Do when you walk by and see all that ham hanging out come on in and join the ham crew. You won't regret it. Unlike spots that promote only Iberian ham and Manchego cheese, Casa González has all manner of meats and cheeses so it is a fantastic spot to go to for variety within this genre. I think that only strict vegans will be angered by what is on offer here. I recommend Casa Gonzalez for a meat and cheese orgy if you are in the area. This market is not a tourist spot, it's an upscale but vintage neighborhood market. The Robleño…read morestores are a large section of the market, but not the whole thing. The Robleño shops have all types of cured meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables (don't touch the items), a nice wine selection (and people to help you choose), great canned veggies, spices, barrels of olives and pickles, chocolates and turrón, plus other specialty items. There is a small café within the Robleño shops with really good food, coffee, snacks, and a friendly staff if you need a break and want to watch the action. There are many other vendors, including a liquor store/bar, fish mongers, multiple fruit and vegetable stalls, bakeries, stalls with just olives and pickles, others with cleaning supplies, etc. -- locals actually shop, and you won't necessarily find that everyone speaks English there, so be prepared. Go early if you actually want to shop, because it gets very busy by 10 am, and if you don't speak Spanish and know what you want, you'll slow everybody down and will also have to jostle for space and attention. I really enjoy shopping there, having a coffee and snack, or just looking around.
