It does not sell chart books and I have only ever seen new release books on the odd occasion. What it does offer however is a good range of books at good prices, it has a good childrens section. Stocking over 25,000 titles and run by owner-manager, Sam, who started the business in 2005. On a recent Sunday afternoon (just before they closed), you would have found me in the back, looking at the rare and antiquarian book selection. This is what I call the antique section of the book store. I found many interesting titles, but managed to settle on only 1 treasure. I found my experience to be relaxing and welcoming.

I was surprised and impressed when last weekend I used one of the vouchers on some childrens books which were already on the offer of buy one get one half price. They came to £12 and I asked about the voucher and the woman informed me that was not a problem so I got a further £5 off the total, thus only paying for one and a half books and getting 4! The staff are friendly and helpful. The store sells books and magazines at the front of the store, further back childrens books and stationery as well as music and dvds.

Though books dearer than a lot of the charity shops it has an extensive range sorted into children, crime, bestsellars, travels craft etc. Staff change a lot but are friendly.. However this Oxfam shop is dedicated to books. And there are so many books, its wonderful to see all those shining spines, with wide-ranging subject matters and all categorized beautifully! On reading the previous review I became baffled. I cannot understand what would cause someone to write such a bad review, comparing the shop to a jumble sale. As far as I could tell everything was ordered into different sections in an extreamly customer freindly fashon. I could not dissagree with this person more. I was impressed with the quality of products available and the way that they were layed out. In my mind the shop has; new things like a high street shop, a variety of clothes like a boutique and better prices than the alternatives in both categories.

The cafe sells drinks, cakes, snacks through to main meals. The highlight of any trip to the good news centre is definatly the cakes. All of their food is good but they really do go to town with the cake selection. I should point out that although the cafe too is a christian based organisation, many non christian people enjoy the good news and it is a real meeting place for the local people.

Lovely little shop, right in the centre of town - its just a shame that it's a bit hit and miss as to what they'll have in there. Sometimes it's an aladdins cave - sometimes more of a bootfair. Worth a visit though - especially if you're an arts and crafts person. They have books at massively reduced prices - and everything from aromatherapy to zoology! Pretty greetings cards and wrapping paper too - and that is always on offer. Great for pocket money presents!!
