Called 2 times and left a message to get an estimate. Nobody ever returned my call. Would never use them if they can't even return a call.

    Southern Classic Roofing - Roof

    Southern Classic Roofing

I hired Southern Classic Roofing in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene to address damage to my roof,…read morespecifically the front slope, as outlined in my insurance adjuster's scope of work. The insurance payout for this portion of the roof was approximately $4,000. During the initial consultation, I was presented with options, and the company strongly recommended replacing the entire roof, stating they only used architectural shingles. As a first-time homeowner dealing with significant roof damage, I may have had somewhat high expectations. I opted to proceed with replacing only the damaged section as per the insurance scope, which they agreed to do for $4,000 via text. I paid a 50% deposit, and a few weeks later, on December 11, 2024, a crew arrived to perform the work. Notably, none of the individuals I had previously interacted with were present. Shortly after the crew completed the work, and based on the assumption that the agreed-upon work was completed, I paid the remaining balance. In February 2025, a subsequent windstorm resulted in shingles being blown off again. A new insurance inspection revealed significant issues: only approximately one-quarter of the roof had been replaced, and 3-tab shingles, not the architectural shingles I had assumed, were used. The adjuster also indicated improper installation. I contacted Southern Classic Roofing via email, expressing my concerns regarding the discrepancy between the work done and the agreed-upon scope and price. I emphasized feeling misled and requested a refund. A representative from Southern Classic Roofing responded, disputing the claim of improper installation. They stated that the $4,000 was used to replace the smaller section due to the need to repair underlying wood structure, a detail that was never communicated to me prior. They again recommended replacing the entire roof. I requested an itemized invoice, which was never provided. After further communication and another inspection by a representative, they agreed to return and replace the missing shingles and apply additional adhesive to other loose shingles. Nearly a month has passed, and this work has not been completed. While I appreciate the initial promptness in addressing the hurricane damage, I am ultimately dissatisfied with the quality of communication and the execution of the work. The discrepancy between the agreed-upon scope, the actual work performed, the materials used, the premature payment of the remaining balance, and the lack of transparency regarding the wood repairs has led to significant frustration. As a first time home owner, I do understand there is a learning curve, but I feel a more open line of communication would have prevented a lot of the issues I have encountered. I am now in the process of hiring another roofing contractor to replace the entire roof. My primary complaint is the lack of clear and consistent communication. I feel I was not given the necessary information to make informed decisions. I would not recommend this company.

Despite the challenges posed by our insurance company, Joey and Colby's unwavering persistence and integrity were commendable, securing necessary funds and ensuring a seamless project completion. Had another roofer come look at it and they had not put the ridge cap on the top of the roof and the ridge cap pooled up water and the water was just pouring in the middle of my double wide mobile home. All the drywall was soft, mold everwhere, ruined floors and Insurance will not cover as they say it is the roofers responsibility. It will be years before I get this all fixed and Donnie says it's not his fault, then who's fault is it that the roof he put on leaked?? Stay away from this company at all costs.

BEWARE of Donnie Long (who I'll refer to as DL) from A1 roofing he's the WORST!!!! We hired him to…read moreput a coating on our beach deck the previous 1 had lasted 6 years, He said his would last 10. He quoted 2,500. we put 1/2 down. then He slapped roller rock cement coating on with no prep. going right over dirt debris & bird poop... & followed NONE of the application instructions, Like adding a 2nd coat within 2 hrs. & applying 2 coats of sealer... It failed within hrs. cracking up as it was drying & later peeling. We canceled his check for the balance. He then threw a big yelling tantrum full of threats & profanity. We called the roller R. product rep who explained that DL had not only ignored all the label instructions applying it incorrectly but had used the wrong product for the job. The 1 he should have used was a rubberized coating. DL's idea of fixing it was to add another coating of the wrong stuff to the already failed wrong stuff. The rep advised against it. We tried it on 2 test areas & it failed as predicted, DL had no other suggestions for a fix. Then DL said that what he had really done was mix roller r. with the rubberized coating before arriving at the job sight. (complete malpractice) The 2 cannot be mixed, verified by the rep in writing. Our deck is a peeling mess & DL still thinks we owe him the full 2,500 for this totally botched job & refuses to refund our deposit of $1,278.50 We have to just think of it as a donation to the Donnie long fund. He tries to say now-" I don't guarantee at the beach" he also did 2 other small jobs for us that day, replaced 1 shingle for $50 which he later tried to change the price of to $250, & he performed 1 minor gutter repair which was very unprofessionally & poorly done. DL enjoys calling us childish names. He creepily sent 1 text threatening to come to our home uninvited. we've since increased our home security
