Recently moved to a new apartment + recently moved from another country = no houseplants :( I tearfully left my lovely greens back on the other side of the pond prior to moving. Since the new apartment is starting to come together, it was time for a little greenery in the house. Sure, I could go to Albert Hein and pick up an orchid, but I was curious about the small flower/plant shop down the street. Whenever I walk by I always peer at the outdoor plants they have on the sidewalk.
I was tempted to buy an outdoor plant (This super cool one with flowers that look as though they are growing upside down), but knew I really needed a green leafy plant.
I found a group of plants that are health plants, supposedly they cleanse the air. It is from the philodendron family so I knew it would grow quick and be a great addition to the house. For less than 7 euros, I was sold (in general, I find plants to be way cheaper here than from back home...score!).
Then, I saw this other plant in a small hanging pot. It looked like it was the runt of the family, all small and alone. I asked if there were others like it, to which the woman said no, but if I wanted it I could have it for free. For free?! Yes! So now this little vine-plant is hanging happily in the kitchen!
In general, this store fits a lot into a small space. Cut flowers, orchids, potted plants, colorful flowers or various shades of green they have a lot and I find their prices very reasonable! Plus, the shop keeper will entertain you and speak Dutch with you as you stumble along in your new language (a huge plus in my book!)
I anticipate this will be my go-to shop for my flower and plant needs. read more
