Geïnspireerd op de Amerikaanse keuken is het menu van BLOKES een optelling van burgers, steaks, ribs met een vleugje charme van onze keuken door het toevoegen van gerechten als een carpaccio en onder andere een zalmsteak. BLOKES haar signature dishes zijn onder andere de Lumberjack Burger, de Lousiana Ribs en de Oreo Cheesecake. Check ons menu voor een volledige lijst van wat wij zijn.

History

Established in 2016.

Gesitueerd op de Poelestraat, een straat die terug dateert naar de 11e eeuw, zit BLOKES. Het in de volksmond beter bekende 'Poeleplein' deed vanaf de 13e eeuw tot aan 1828 dienst als gevangenis, met aan het hoofd de 'Poelepoort'. Het wijde gedeelte van de Poelestraat diende oorspronkelijk als weerplein: het diende om het Stadse leger achter de Poelepoort op te kunnen stellen. Deze konden dan door de Poelepoort een uitval maken richting de belegeraars. Tegenwoordig hebben we echter geen Stadsleger meer en is het plein het centrum van de uitgaan scene van Groningen. BLOKES, te vinden op nummer 33, staat voor stoere mannen en vrouwen, vlotte en informele bediening, eten van hoge kwaliteit, spraakmakende cocktails in een industriële setting.

When you make the reservation (and you really should make a reservation), you choose where you want to dine. The menu also differs, depending on where you sit. On the ground floor, that's the restaurant. I've dined there the most. I love trying their cocktails and their bitterballen aren't that bad. You almost can't go wrong with the dish that you choose; they also change and rotate so it might already be a different menu. I sat upstairs once. It was a small plates sharing menu with more cocktails to try! In other words, it was a more extensive cocktail menu. Every time I've been the food and the cocktails have been excellent. They also have beer in case you just want to do that. The decor is fun and quirky with an Indiana Jones/Jungle Cruise flavor. I would highly recommend getting a reservation if you're in Groningen.

I've only been twice, mostly at off-hours, and I haven't seen it overly crowded (a plus!). It's got plenty of windows to let in the Dutch "sunlight," a few couches, and even some outdoor seating.
