We started with the tuna tartare, which was a standout. I'm "that aunt" in the family -- the one who encourages the kids to try new things -- and this dinner was my monthly outing with my nephew. He ordered chicken nuggets, and while that might sound simple, they were clearly house-made, fresh-cut, and thoughtfully prepared. For chicken nuggets, they were excellent. My scallops, unfortunately, didn't quite land for me. The accompanying preparation felt overly complex and ended up overpowering the natural delicacy of the scallops. That said, the menu offers plenty of other intriguing options, and I'd absolutely return to explore more. Once a year we come up for the dog show and look forward to eating here. Dinner last night was disappointing. My husband ordered the Mango Mahi. Asked for the Thai Basil rice instead of the quinoa. Waitress informed him as she served the others at our table that she sent his back because it was wrong. Told us his meal would come out "shortly". 20 minutes later we had completed our meals. She said another 2 minutes. When it finally arrived it had quinoa instead of the rice. Husband ended up taking his meal to go. One of our table mates asked for mayo - never arrived. I've eaten here several times. In fact my family surprised me for my 60th birthday in 2019. In 2022 we came here to celebrate our grandson's high school graduation. Last year we came for a Mother's Day lunch. So I've been here a lot. Most recently we came here after Sunday service. I love eating here. The food is delicious. The wait staff is friendly, professional and very attentive. There is one particular cook named Cymba who works on the grill. Her food is amazing. The ambiance at the Blue Bird is vibrant. So I want to update my review due to the fact of the size of the items are the same price and the portions changed. If you look at the side salad from before ( within a year) it was bigger. You get charged if you want to substitute instead of chips but Tiny Tim wouldn't be satisfied with that side salad. And to piggy back on that my "large" house salad with added grilled chicken was the same portion as that tiny side salad but with a grilled chicken with it. Look at the older photos and you can see the difference on the side salad. Like I know they buy premade salad. Add a little more at least to the "large" salad. The crab cake looked about the same as the other and still tasted good to my husband. So they still charge you the full price of a side salad to substitute and just add it in the price. So it would be easier to get a salad on the side and get what they give you. We are spending our money to dine at least make it worth it. The last 4 pictures show our charges. Our waitress was nice and the food is good but not for those prices. The first time I came I had an amazing experience. I was impressed so I came back the second time. Got the same thing and it was different. The first time I came more energy was put into the food and presentation. The second time it was just slopped on my plate. Also , I asked for a strawberry margarita and the server Kristen gives me the blood orange one. It even had an orange in it. When I asked her again for a strawberry margarita she said "I'll make it more red for you" and just added more syrup into the drink. I've had many strawberry margaritas before and none of them include oranges. Kristen gave me the blood orange drink, then instead of remaking it just added stuff to it. So I had a blood orange margarita with red syrup. Not what I ordered but I'm glad it was $7. If I want a real margarita and nice food I'll go to longhorn steakhouse. read more

Now this place boasts that it is right from farm to table. And indeed it is surrounded by more farms than I have ever seen in one place before. It does happen to be adorable on the inside and outside. Too bad the food isn't good. This place could be dynamite if the food were good. My starter side salad had many old greens in it that were bad and congealed. The tuscan shrimp soup had no shrimp in it. It was described as "edible" (not exactly high praise). My mahi mahi entree was mostly cold but I was starving and ate it anyway. There was some unidentified debris in my risotto that I picked out. It was not the texture of cheese, and if it were it would have melted into the rice. The kind and energetic waitress did say that all the desserts were house made. I'm not sure I believe her. The creme brûlée lacked almost any discernible flavor, though the texture was really good. Guys, use real vanilla beans if you make it yourself! Makes all the difference in the world! This is the third time we've been here. We travel from Lancaster for the great food. I had the Tajin Mango Salmon, it was moist and very tender. Also a rice pilaf that was very good. Stopped in before dinner on a Saturday night. We had a short wait to be seated, maybe 10 minutes - not bad. Our server was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Their cocktail list was great - between the two of us we enjoyed the seasonal mule, a gin & jam, the sugared pomegranate margarita, and a smoked bourbon drink. We split some appetizers - my husband loved the Blue Bird Brussels, I enjoyed the pierogis, and we split the pub fries. The pub fries were great and definitely had a kick to them. This is one spot to save room for dessert. We split chocolate mousse and the bourbon bread pudding. I will be dreaming of that bourbon sauce - absolutely amazing. The servers are always super friendly but I am not a fan of their food. It is very underwhelming and very expensive for the quality you receive. My wife, stepson and I ate here last night. It will be the last time. The food was just awful. The best, or rather, least bad thing we had was the crab cake sandwich. It was described as "Broiled Jumbo and Lump Crab Cake..." That is a complete and utter lie. Actually, it was a deep-fried ball of mush with no discernable texture or evidence of actual crab meat. There was a mild crab flavor, but it tasted predominantly of spices, probably Old Bay. The tomato was almost completely white and pithy with a light tinge of pink around the edge. The "seasoned house chips" were very stale. When I told that to the waitress, she said, "They were made fresh this morning" (How many hours ago was that? At least ten hours earlier.) and offered to give me a new batch, obviously also made fresh that morning. My wife ordered the "Baked Crabby Pretzel Braid," allegedly containing lump crab. It seemed to be a large roll of pretzel split open and stuffed with some sort of pasty stuff that appeared to be just crab dip. There was no actual crab meat involved. She could not finish it. My stepson ordered the jambalaya. What a joke that was. It tasted nothing like jambalaya, or anything even remotely creole or Cajun. In the world of Louisiana cooking, it had as much relationship to real jambalaya as a can of Campbell's Chicken Gumbo soup does to real gumbo. It did not even look like jambalaya, just a soupy mess. Our waitress generally ignored us, especially after I complained about the potato chips. Suffice it to say, the others thought I over-tipped her. The Blue Bird Inn is a historic venue and has been in operation since the 1800s. The food is excellent and the menu is varied and includes local cuisine. The beer menu is constantly changing and offers some local brews (as well as national breweries). I enjoy going in for a pint or a meal. They have a lot of tvs in the bar area and I've watched a few big games here. The ambiance is essentially three restaurants. Immediately inside, you have a brass rail style bar that could maybe be called a sports bar because of how many tvs they have. The dining area in the original building is old school inn, feels cozy, and is much quieter. The outdoor area is more of a tiki feel with huge umbrellas and a 15-seat outdoor, full-service tiki bar. First off, my wife and I ate here a couple months ago and had a great meal. Plus, the service was excellent. Fast forward to last night. I'm not sure if the place is under new management or if they are just getting complacent. But, our food was not good. We ordered the luau scallops with mango pico. The meal came with 4 tiny scallops (for $28) that were so over cooked that we had to use a steak knife to cut them. The meal also came with a "side" of rice....stuff that was so dry and stuck together that I had to dip into the sauce from the scallops to be able to swallow it. We also got a chicken Cesar salad that had leather strips in place of chicken breast. Overall, the meal sucked and it cost me $100 (with 4 drinks). We will not be coming back here. Ps. The work they did on the deck/patio is really nice. I want to love this place, but it's not in the cards. read more

Blue Bird has become one of our staples over the last year or so. I understand it was remodeled in recent years, and the new setup is great. on our first couple of visits we sat on the deck in the evening and really enjoyed it. It's multi-level, with a partially enclosed bar, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Food has always been solid, as have been the drinks. My only complaint, and it's minor, is that on our last visit all their IPA beers were very much the same. If you are going to have 8 IPA's on the list, select ones that vary a bit. read more

I'd probably stick to just beer or something next time. The placed the tables really close to the walkway so it was very awkward with a lot of servers trying to walk around us. APPETIZERS- Baked Crabby Pretzel, over baked & hard to chew, a little light on crab stuffing- very disappointing. Fried Local Cheese Curds- generous serving, lightly golden, satisfying. Shrimp Skewer w/ Pineapple Salsa- tropical, pineapple, red peppers- very good. DINNER- Sheppard's Pie- Loved it was lamb & not beef, good portion, fair distribution of meat & veggies to potatoes. Jaeger Schnitzel- generous portion of breaded pork in mushroom gravy- standout of our dishes. Food was nicely presented. But every dish was lacking something- seasoning! Sheppard's Pie would've benefitted if some of giant rosemary garnish had actually been integrated into the dish. -Had a delicious tortellini, shrimp & lobster bits in a creamy sauce called Seafood Tortellini. My companion had ribs, mashed potatoes & gravy. He said (& I tasted them & agreed) they were good, tender, but would've been better had they been smoked (hehehe isn't everything better when smoked). The real star of our meal was our shared appetizer: flash fried brussel sprouts, w/chunky bits of bacon (absolutely delicious, tiny but toothy chunks), parmesan honey & sea salt (as read in the menu description). The wait staffer was terrific & her name was Alyssa. The only reasons for the 4-star is that, 1) our unsweetened ice tea was bitter. An addition of sweetener helped. 2) The coffee, at the end of the meal, tasted more like a morning coffee (too strong & bitter) rather than a smooth good-tasting after-dinner coffee. They had no espresso to cap the meal but that's alright. & 3) This was our first time at Bluebirds (there will be more visits). Unfortunately, we entered at the first driveway on the main drag bcz there was no sign indicating that this was a one-way entrance-going the wrong way to our direction. The parking lot was packed & then we noticed the arrows painted on the drive in the opposite direction to our drive. Luckily, we encountered no one coming in the opposite direction. We made it out, parked, & enjoyed a lovely, unrushed meal, with a Server that gave us plenty of time to enjoy the appy before bringing the entree. FYI: our visit was on an early Sunday evening & allthough none of the 4-5 couples ahead of us on the check-in line had to wait, I recommend a reservation. The spouse ordered a chicken cheese-stake Sammy with a side salad, salad came quickly and I went for a Cobb salad and a dozen wings mild on the side (on a keto diet ) Amazingly huge salad lots of fresh lettuce in bite sized shredded cheese, bacon, a perfect egg nicely dressed not too much not too little. Additional protein available but not needed. The wings were huge so probably why they were a little bit under cooked, done but not crispy. Not an issue since I was stuffed from the salad and we haven't used the air fryer in a while. $47 + tip service was great , we are in a post Covid environment,so a nice 20% that I was willing to give up. read more

The restaurant's building was so inviting, the ambiance was great, and the liquor selection was good; however, my meal was below par, service was poor, and the liquor pour was poor. I had a half of a rack of pork ribs. They were the dries, toughest rigs that I can remember ever eating. I mentioned it to the bartenders, and the basically brushed me off. The guy next to me also had the ribs. He said that their ribs are usually fall-off-the-bone, but he said these were the toughest he has had. As such, I told him he needed to tell the manager, which I didn't do, to let him know about the problem so it can be fixed. Let's talk about the service. I ate at the bar, which I typically do when traveling. Behind the bar were four women. Women are great, better than men, in numerous occupations, but bartending is not one of them. Either a bar/restaurant needs to hire more staff, or mix it up with men and women. I have never had exceptional service with only women behind the bar. It has never made sense that a manager skimps on bar service; it's the most profitable part of the business. Let's move onto the drinks, weak, weak, weak. They may have met minimum requirements, but rarely does a bar serve the minimum. I will never go to a restaurant that fails to provide a decent shot. This place has so much potential. I'll never return, but they are missing out on an opportunity. I'm assuming they get decent business, since they are one of the only restaurants in that area, but they could be packed during the latter part of the week. read more
