In the ever expanding Venn diagram of delicious Mexican food and Yakima, Blue Hills fits squarely into the crossover space! Hailing on Tieton and 11th (ish), this spot is doing it up right! The parking lot o my has 3-4 spots so be prepared to street park if needed. Once inside, there is seating for about 15 people, a TV that was showing soccer, A small refrigerator with pop and different sauces, and some awesome Mexican food! They have quite the array of options. Seven or eight types of meat to choose from and everything is very reasonably priced. I ended up having a taco sampler plate - basically ordering five or six different types of tacos to go. Everything is street style and comes on double corn tortillas topped with cilantro and a little bit of onion. They were both red and green sauces that were included, and both are really good. I think the litmus test for any place in the area is whether or not there are grandmothers in the back helping make the food. I think there were two in the back here, and it tasted like it! At the end of the day, nothing beats home cooking, and many of the Mexican spot in the area, this one included, it's like cooking for the family every day! Everything is made after you order, so calling ahead isn't a bad idea. My whole order cost like seven dollars and made me want to go spend another seven! Best Tortas in town! I've gotten tortas twice and they were delicious both times, no soggy bread and the salsa the give you is a 10/10. I used to stop and get tacos on my way home from school. Came here after arriving in Washington from California... we were so hungry and stopped here to eat. We Ordered carne asada tacos, menudo, Carne asada quesadilla, tripas tacos and sopes. Everything was freshly made, they served handmade tortillas with the menudo and the sope was hand made as well. Food was very delicious and best part is that it's authentic Mexican food made by friendly people. Service was great and food was even better. So good!!! I got the spicy shrimp plate and a lengua taco and a can of soda for about $15. I've definitely had better lengua- it's so much better when it's cooked well done and crispy. However the shrimp was so dang good. The portion of shrimp was generous but the rice and refritos were so tasty I was wishing there was a more generous portion like a lot of other Mexican restaurants. The corn tortillas were great but not homemade, I don't think. Also I got like 5 which was plenty for my meal! I will definitely be back as it is super close to YVC. What a fun little Mexican restaurant! My friends and I took a day trip down to Yakima and by the time we got there we were absolutely starving. After looking around for something unique we stumbled across this little place. The sitting area is very small and the decor is humble, but the prices were great and all 5 of us agreed it was some of the best Mexican food we had had in the PNW. This is by far the best Mexican food I've had since I moved to this area from California. Everywhere else seems like they share the same recipe. This tastes like true, flavorful, homemade and authentic Mexican food. The service is great and the food is even better! 10/10 if I could rate it that. This is my new favorite place to go. Me and my family ordered tortas and tacos they were so good idk it was something in it that made me think it was heaven the cheese combined with it or something.I was shocked the bread was not soggy so extra point for that .i guess u can say the place is small but after all the flavor and the taste is killing it.The employes well idk i think they were all family. You can't miss this place if you look for Don Rafa outside grilling the meat and onions for the tacos, burritos & tortas in every type of weather & temperature. (I've personally witnessed him there in 105 degree heat and 10 degree cold) The aroma is intoxicating. It is a very simple place but the food and the friendliness of the owners makes up for the simplicity. Prices are $1 for tacos and a full entree with rice, beans and tortillas are less than $8. Awesome tacos! Between my wife and I, we had 4 different kinds of tacos, all delicious. My favorite was the beef cheek, the meat was very succulent, reminding me of the point portion of a brisket. We also had Al Pastor, tongue and regular beef (which appeared to be sirloin), all very good. The tortillas were top notch and the sauces were great at heating things and adding flavor without overpowering the meat.
