This is a nice bike repair store yeah, but I'm so mad they are closed on Mondays. Seriously. It has been twice now I finally have the day off to walk my bike 2.5 miles to drop it off for some big repairs and the shop is closed. No one is going to expect you are closed on the best day of the week to get things done. As someone who had my car explode from the local Take5 oil change service. My bike is my only form of transportation. That sucks enough. I am busy every day of the week at work. I can't believe I keep doing this. Be closed on Sundays like a normal business or be open everyday. I now have to walk my broken bike back home, again. read more

Blue line was recommended to me by a friend, and then I recommended it to my friends, too. Got a bike during the pandemic (please judge me, quarantine was hard!!) by snagging the old bike in the back of my parents' garage. Not sure who rode it or how long it sat... but Blue Line tuned it up and replaced a part for about $100 and didn't take too long either. I was on the bayou in no time! They had a wide array of bikes and accoutrements for various skill and age levels. The repair was reasonably priced, of course bicycles during Covid were expensive, but I felt that it was fair and that they genuinely wanted to help me. Let's ride y'all! read more

The back tube on my used bike broke and needed to be replaced. We drove over to Blue Line Bike Lab and they were able to fix it quickly and for a good price. They also noticed my left brake was loose and fixed that as well for about $20. Overall we were there for maybe 20 minutes. They have couches to wait, and a restroom as well. Really surprised by my experience here considering all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, this is the third negative experience I've had in this shop. Dropped my bike off to have the brakes worked on and there was a really negative attitude from the mechanics, which I had experienced before when I had brought a blind cyclist in to have his tandem worked on for an upcoming race, that should've been my last straw with them but I really needed my brakes done so whatever I left my bike with them. Came back and picked it up then realized after I got home that the brake problem had not been addressed at all. The front wheel barely moved before the brakes stopped it from severe rub. I took the bike back and they told me it needed the brakes bled but that absolutely was not an issue before I brought the bike in, and even if it was why didn't he address that since the whole reason I dropped the bike off was to fix the brakes? They wouldn't even look at me while I showed them what was still wrong with the bike. Told me maybe they could do it next week... they thought they could pull a fast one on me thinking I don't know what I'm talking about but unfortunately for them I'm a multi-time national champion and have never experienced this kind of treatment from a bike shop. The best bike shop in Houston! Regardless if you live in The Heights it's worth the drive or ride whichever you prefer. I come once a year to get my bike tuned up, regardless of if I need it or not. Everyone in the store is very helpful and professional. To a bike novice such as myself, I love asking them questions and the explanations are thorough. If I'm riding around and I'm low on air I'll stop in and they'll complimentary fill my tires. I also think they have by far the best branded Merch! I'd tried a couple of other places and begun to despair of ever finding a good bike shop in Houston when a friend recommended Blue Line Bike Lab. I looked at their website and made plans to take my mountain bike in for a tune-up. Then my rear tire blew out, which accelerated my plans to try my luck there. Even before schlepping my bike there, I was impressed by my phone call with Service Manager Brandon; when he found out my bike was my primary means of transportation, he got a quick appointment for me and urged me to bring it in. Walking through the door, I loved the vibe of the place from the first few moments. Every staff member I encountered was extraordinarily helpful and friendly. There was absolutely no up-selling premium products or urging me to tack on expensive maintenance. On the contrary, the first pair of hands to touch my bike (Jose, in the service department) suggested that I might not need a complete tune-up at this point and could save a few bucks by just getting the brakes and gears looked at, along with the tire change. I went with the complete tune-up anyway, and have had no cause to regret it. The guys got my bike in great shape and the service was beyond fantastic. If you're looking for a great local bike shop this is the place to go! I've loved cycling since I was kid but I've historically purchased lower end bikes. With that, I've definitely had judgmental experiences at other bike shops when needing tune ups etc. so I'm always a little apprehensive when trying a new bike shop. A couple of weeks ago I took my bike in for a tune up to Blue Line Bike Lab and the guys were all super nice and it definitely felt like a judgement free zone. With that, I was open to potentially investing in a nicer gravel bike for commuting around the city. I ended up making 3 separate trips to the shop to check out bikes, test bikes, and do research. They were kind and answered my questions each time. On my 3rd trip, with help from Hunter at the shop, the Jamis renegade picked me. I'm absolutely in love with my new bike and the shop! First time here and Blue Line Bike Lab is my new go to bike shop. I needed my bike to be looked at, possibly repaired. I called a few other bike shops but all of them stated they were too busy, running 2-4 weeks behind. I brought my bike in and they thoroughly checked it out. My gears were acting "weird", kind of slipping. Upon bringing it in to get checked out, the problem all of sudden was gone. Nevertheless, the mechanic test rode it around the block and then let me ride it down the street before I left and yes it rode perfectly and all for no charge. I was looking for a new bike something better than the big box store brands. I've always seen this bike shop (old and new location) while driving around the area so I decided to stop and take a look and see. They have a nice collection of quality bikes to choose from. Customer service was awesome they recommend the right size of bike for my height. I narrowed my choices down to 2 bikes, the CSR was kind enough to let me test ride both my choices which I consider great customer service and also being almost closing time (about 10 minutes) I didn't have the feeling of being pressured by the CSR to hurry up. I got my bike serviced here a few weeks ago. Parking is limited along the side of the building. The building is a decent size for an independent bike shop. They have various bikes (primarily Jamis, Kona, Electra, Scott...) and the back half of the store is for the workshop where they have quite a lot of work orders. I brought my bike in because my back wheel was wobbly. I was quickly shown to the back, where one guy quickly fixed up my wheel and aired up my tires. I asked how much and he wiggled his fingers in the air like saying "magic" and basically said there was no charge. This made me so happy, because last time I brought my bike to Aggieland Cycling in College Station to get my brake wires tightened, they charged me 30 BUCKS! What robbery! It made me scared to go to bike shops again. But I'm really glad I came to this one because they were quick to address my needs and were very nice about it. My BF also brought his bike in after getting a flat and they fixed up fairly quickly too, Only charged $7 for the new tube and the fix. Overall, the place provides good service and gives you that wonderful independent bike shop feel without being pretentious or expensive. Kahlil rocks. I called about five minutes till 7 PM yesterday. He told me if I arrived at the shop by 705 that he would swap my tire. I arrived at 7:03 PM and he did exactly as he stated and searched high and low to find my oddly sized tire. He found it and told me that they were getting a new shipment the next day for my second tire and that he would call me if the other tire came in. He completely followed up as he stated he would and I am now leaving with The second tire. Through the entire process he was warm and friendly and polite which is truly appreciated and once again especially the fact that he followed up and kept his word was absolutely mind blowing just for a simple little tire I am truly grateful. I'd highly recommend coming to Blue Line if you are looking for quick reasonable bike repairs. My friend and I came in on a Sunday evening about 20 minutes before closing since another bike store in Montrose didn't want to perform any repairs so late in the day. We just needed a simple tube change-out and they performed the work in 10 minutes, even though there was another customer getting repairs in front of us. They did the work (new tube and labor) for under $15, which is half the price of what two other big name bike stores had quoted me. They have had this location for about 10 years (according to one employee) and also have a nice selection of bikes and accessories for any occasion. I normally go to REI since that is where I originally bought my bike. I had a blowout and it's been awhile since I had a tune up, so I figured I would give it a shot since it's right next to my house. Exceptionally clean and well organized shop. It is in an old market, and it's cool how they incorporated some of the old market display counters into the modern bike shop. Staff was laid back, happy, and knowledgeable. The prices seemed reasonable, especially compared to REI. It was also nice to support a local mom & pop shop. read more

I have been going to Blue Line for several years and have ridden with Fred a few times when we ran across each other on the local trails. I purchased a casual bike at BL for my wife last year just before Covid hit. In August of 2020 I broke my MTB frame and started looking at new bikes in spite of the fact I was able to get the frame welded and the bike running. I had to save my pennies for a bit so I did not get serious about finding another bike until December. Once I narrowed down my search and started attempting to purchase something I realized that nothing was available. Blue Line carries the brand of the third and final choice on my list so I called Fred to see what stock or future orders for that bike looked like. They were out and none were expected before Q3 at the earliest so I was out of options. I knew Fred had been trying to sell his personal bike back in August so I asked if it was still available. Of course, it was long gone because good used bikes are even hard to find these days. This is where it gets good. Fred asked if I had looked at a Jamis Portal, which I had not because it was a little bit larger travel bike than I was searching for. He went on to tell me that he had gotten one as his new personal bike and that the bike performed like what I was searching. Okay great, are they available, I asked. Nope, they are out too. Fred continues to take it to a place I did not expect and invites me to come take his bike for a ride and says that if I like it he would be willing to sell it to me since I am a long time customer and in a tight spot. This is all with the knowledge that he also cannot get a replacement for a couple of months or more. I went to take it for a test ride the following day and loved it so now it was time to talk turkey. He not only sold me his personal bike, he actually gave me a bit of a discount and sold it to me as a demo with full warranty because it was not technically brand new. Remember it is only a couple of months old and the owner of a bike shop owns it, so it is just like new and had less than 200 miles on it. This kind of caring about their fellow cyclist and continued good service keeps me coming back to Blue Line and I will continue to do so. I highly recommend this shop. Scott Kerley read more

Bought my wife's bike there several years ago and it was time for a tune-up. When I took it in to get the work done, they told me that it would be 3 weeks to get it back. They had it ready in less than one and we were riding again the next weekend. Not only that, they were $50 less than some of the other shops I called to see about getting the same work done. I went to Blue Line Bike Lab to have a wheel built for a fixed gear conversion. I brought them the rim and hub so they provided the spokes and laced it all up for me. The cost of the work and parts are very reasonable, and the wheel came out perfect. The shop is clean and well stocked, and their entire staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Roughly a week ago, I walked into Blue Line after visiting another Bike Shop in the Heights where I was ignored for 15 minutes; a shame for them really as I was intending on purchasing a new bicycle. As soon as I walked through the door of this shop however I was greeted by a gentlemen named Marcus who went out of his way to find me a bike close to my budget which not only fit my needs but exceeded my expectations. He sized the bike for me, adjusted the seat and let me take it for a test spin. Not 10 minutes later and I walked out with a new 2018 Kona Dew Plus, and I've rode it every day since! SUMMARY: Overall, I believe the technicians at Blue Line are friendly and competent, and the service provided is excellent. The company worked with me through dealing with some manufacturer defects. UPDATE: I am writing this update to my original review below based on new information. The owner of Blue Line reached out to me regarding my review. He explained that I was not charged for duplicated services. The original boxed bike came with the damaged fork already installed, so their was additional labor required on behalf of Blue Line to remove the original fork and install the new fork. So my new understanding is that there was no duplication of effort, merely extra charges for addressing the piece that was shipped defective. Both management and I agree that this information should have been conveyed more clearly to me earlier in the process. I have updated my review from 3- to 5-stars based on my new understanding. ORIGINAL: This review relates to the bike assembly service provided by Blue Line Bike Lab. Overall, I believe the technicians were friendly and competent, but I am frustrated by an unexpected upcharge. I brought in my bike to Blue Line Bike Lab for assembly from the box because of Blue Line's competitive rate for assembly ($80). While Blue Line was assembling the bike, they alerted me that the bike had a bent fork and that the part would need to be replaced in order to complete the assembly. Blue Line graciously held onto the bike while I worked to get the part replaced through the bike's warranty; but, once I realized the replacement part was on back order, I reclaimed the nearly assembled bike. Months later, I received the part and brought the bike back to Blue Line. At this point, Blue Line charged me an additional $40 for a fork installation. I expressed confusion and frustration at this because the bike assembly was not yet complete. Why would they charge full price ($80) for a half-assembled bike and an additional $40 for replacing the fork that was bent. One of the technicians recommended I reach out to the manufacturer, but the cost of assembly was not covered by the manufacturer. After I told the technician, he shrugged and charged me any way. I don't recommend Blue Line for a bike assembly because they will charge you full price for an incomplete job and then add additional charges on top of that. I will not return here. 3 stars because the bike is fully assembled and works fine now. read more
