THIS is the place I'm gonna bring my mama to when she comes to visit me in Columbia, South Carolina! This is, hands down, the best restaurant I've gone to in the city so far. The food is off the chain, people. They make everything in house in the back, according to friends I've made that have worked here, and you can TELL. The salmon ponchartrain? Jesus Christ and all that is holy. I thought I met my maker. Even the green beans had me double-taking. I wasn't going to get dessert bc I thought I was going to explode but THE KEY LIME PIE THE SIZE OF A SMALL COUNTRY?! My god! The ambiance of this place is just ROMANTIC. People need to experience it. Shoutout to the fabulous servers, talented bartenders, and the wonderful manager that kept stopping by to make sure that not only was I having a good time, but everything was exceeding expectations.

We came for lunch and the ambiance is always a positive vibe. Slow, jazzy and earthy all rolled into one. The service is pleasant, from the greeting at the door, seating, order taking and food delivery. Everything was played well. The shrimp and grits are always a hit!!!! So full of creamy depth with plump shrimp and andouille sausage. I also had the Chicken Candied Pecan Salad. Although good, something was missing. I added a bit of salt and pepper, along with a different dressing and that helped a lot, it was a huge salad that I had some left over for dinner. My husband got the flounder and it was soooo good! His sides were the grits and collard greens, and they also provide the table with complimentary collard greens. Blue Marlin will be put in the rotation for sure!

Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess and seated. The restaurant has a nice steakhouse feel. We ordered the ribeye, she crab soup, crab cake, the pecan salad. The ribeye was delicious and cooked to perfection. The she crab soup was very bland and soupy. The crab cake was mediocre, it really didn't have the crabby taste and the salad was just okay.

In town for business and our client suggested to meet at this restaurant for dinner. First thing inside was very clean and nice. Didn't get to get a drink at the bar but looked very comfortable to sit at the bar if you didn't want to wait for a table. Our server was the best and gave us a couple of recommendations to choose from. I forgot his name...I need to remember these names so I can call them out here! Anyway....I started out with a glass of Moscato which was had the perfect sweetness and not overly sweet. Very crisp and refreshing. Then I had the She Crab soup, which was very rich....and had a lot of crab in it. It was DELICIOUS!!!!!! We did share the firecracker shrimp as an appetizer and the shrimp was cooked and seasoned perfectly and not overly spicy but just enough to give it a kick with the peppers! And I had the Seared Scallops with Pasta. It had a little too much cheese for my liking however the scallops were not overcooked and was very good! The pasta was fettucine and it tasted like it was homemade! But the dish was very good. Would definitely come here again when I'm back in town.

I was really impressed with the Blue Marlin, and I had a great dining experience here! The first thing I noticed about the Blue Marlin was how elegant and sophisticated the inside of the restaurant was. I felt like I was transferred back in time to a different era, and I loved the upscale environment that the restaurant presented.  Having said that, I sat at the bar, and arguably didn't even get the full Blue Marlin experience. Nevertheless, and in spite of how classy the restaurant was, I still had an awesome time at the bar. I got the chicken tenders and fries, as well as one of the local IPAs that they had on tap. The bartender (I wish I had gotten his name) was a really cool guy, and I was very appreciative of both the service he provided me with as well as the fact that he took the time to chat with me like a regular person. He displayed the perfect combination of professionalism, without coming off as robotic. My aforementioned tenders and fries were pretty good as well, and I liked how they carried some local beers to compliment the brand name items.  All-in-all, I really enjoyed my visit to Blue Marlin, I'll definitely be back in the future, and I'd recommend that anybody stop in at least once!

The complimentary bread with butter was delicious, but the shrimp and grits were bomb. The crab cakes with rice and collard greens were delicious too. The inside had a historic and cozy feeling to it. Overall, I would return to this place whenever I'm in Columbia again.

The Salmon Salad was amazing! I love when the salad dressing and lettuce are a perfect ratio. The service was very attentive and accommodating to our requests. Great for a nice dinner with friends and family.

Service was great, but the food was a major disappointment. The shrimp and grits had poor presentation and looked unappetizing. The quality of the ingredients was subpar - shrimp were very small that lacked freshness and flavor. Overall, the dish fell well below expectations. Raise the prices to get better quality products and become more competitive. Gain back your recognition of Award Winning Shrimp and Grits.

Another great meal at Blue Marlin. Pinak and Rilee were great for our meal at the bar! We ate at the bar as normal so I could watch the tube and have easy access to cocktails. With the Masters Tournament in town, met folks for the UK and had great conversations! The Latern Parade with New Orleans styled music graced patio diners. It was great!!!

She Crab Soup, collards, palmetto pecan salad and the best bread ever!

Every so often you have to take a scroll back and see if anything new has been added to the menus. Not sure if this is new, but it's definitely something I haven't tried. We tried the Bang Bang Shrimp along with the Fried Shrimp Po' Boy platter and Hush Puppies. The Bang Bang Shrimp sauce was different from what we had tasted before, but it was good. I was looking for a sweeter taste but again, it still had a great taste. It came on a bed of lettuce. The Shrimp Po' Boy platter came with French Fries. The fries were crunchy and delicious! Matter of fact, they were perfect:) The Shrimp Po' Boy was good and simple. It didn't have a lot of stuff on it, which was cool for me. Again, the sauce was okay but the shrimp and fixings were delightful. These Hush puppies are always good, so no complaints there. Friendly staff and clean restaurant. This is a place I recommend. I will be back soon:)

We were seated in a lovely booth by the window, and from the moment we arrived, everything felt just right. The food was absolutely delicious--we enjoyed the oyster Rockefeller, amberjack with tomato risotto topped with a crab and cucumber salad (it was one of the specials), crab cakes, egg rolls, and corn fritters with maple butter. We even took home several desserts to enjoy later! What truly made the evening exceptional, though, was our server, Savannah. She was cheerful, attentive, friendly, and simply fantastic. Her warm, engaging personality made us feel so welcomed, and we loved learning that she's currently in school to become an RN--she is clearly destined for great things. We first visited Pearlz several years ago, and that memorable experience is what brought us back. This visit only reinforced how special this place is. The restaurant location is across from the State House, so I'd anticipate that they get quite a diverse cross section of visitors at the restaurant. I could tell from the moment we arrived that the hostesses were professional and got us to a table that was comfortable and had a view of the dining room. We had originally intended to sit outside where the view is more interesting, but on this day the heat was just too much. Our server, Megan approached quickly and went over a presentation of meat types and preparation styles, and quickly got us some drinks. She was efficient and professional throughout the meal. I had a wonderful fillet with some sauteed spinach, and it was all quite tasty. With a price averaging about $90 per person all in, including soft drinks, tip and tax, it's a higher end restaurant for the area, but certainly a reasonable value overall. For those visiting from out of town as we were, you should definitely take the time to either walk across Gervais Street to visit the State House, or head in the opposite direction along main Street and visit the downtown area. Halls is a wonderful centerpiece and represents Columbia well. At the end of the meal, they asked for my address, at which point I sarcastically said to my wife quote what are they going to do, mail me a thank you card?" Well, they did mail me a thank you card, a very nice touch, and appreciated. A truly first class move.

The problem with the coffee was the cream. It should probably be served around room temperature. Because the creamer was so cold several of our party had to ask for frequent warm-ups. Our server, Kristen, was very personable, pleasant and accommodating. A couple of us ordered Bellini's and mimosas. My Bellini was just OK. My standards are high, since I've had them in Venice, Italy. The Hall's Bellini was not very tasty and on the watery side. My wife tried to order the sweet potato pancakes, but they were out. So she was disappointed, and ended up with the lavender scented brioche French toast. She thought it was OK but was seeking a stronger flavor. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy. I don't order this very often, but there was a good portion of sausage and the flavor of the sausage was enjoyable without being too salty. Our daughter ordered crab cake Eggs Benedict which features a creole sauce. She enjoyed it, but the temperature of the dish could have been hotter. Our niece's daughter had the farmers omelette with the apple sage sausage. The apple-sage sausages were excellent (I got to sample one) and a very good deal. The ambience of Halls is always great. The service is usually quite good and the food is usually excellent. This is our second brunch at Halls and I'll have to say that our first brunch experience was a little bit better for the reasons noted above. I still rate it the best brunch in town.
