Well. If you have ever visited Maine you find out that they are the number one producer of blueberries!!! Therefore if you ever make to to booth bay harbor, blue moon is where you need to go!! Now be where they do breakfast brunch and lunch. They close like at 2pm. So get there before. The view of the harbor is amazing and you get excited about that. Then you order and some of the most fresh, deliciously consistent and perfect portion food comes out of the this little piece of heaven!! You order before you sit, space is limited yet so worth the wait. We went and sat in the back garden the first time which is cute but you miss the harbor view. The second time we got there before the opened so we were first in line. We sat outside on the harbor side. Picture perfect. But let's talk about the most important food. Blueberry pancakes with real Canadian maple syrup. I am ruined for life there will never be another blueberry pancake quite like it!! Then wait for it...crab omelette. Now you know I live my omelets and we make some good one in Cali. Well Blue Moon gets a Cali approval from me. Just enough crab meat not stingy and did I say how fresh this crab was!!! Small little cafe! Coffee is self served. The best part of the cafe is the terrace which has an awesome view of the harbor. Breakfast is simple. Had two sunny side up eggs with English muffins and home fries (mixed with sweet and regular potatoes). Sadly, the potatoes were undercooked, almost raw. Service at counter was a bit repetitive with our orders but the waitresses who brought our food to our table were excellent. We come to Boothbay Harbor every summer and this year we stayed for 10 days, so plenty of opportunities to enjoy breakfast at the Blue Moon where we've enjoyed the blueberry pancakes for many years. Sadly, this year we only ate there once and the reason may surprise you because it certainly surprised us! The morning we had breakfast here, the food was delicious as always! I ordered a farmer's omelette (ham, cheddar & veggies) and it came with a toasted english muffin and home fries. It tasted wonderful but the cheese was stringy and tough... like overcooked mozzarella, so I removed the cheese and finished the omelette without it. The home fries were great, BUT I only received 7 pieces of potato! It was as if they ran out and gave me the dregs before they made more? I don't know but for a breakfast that was almost $15. I expected a serving of home fries, not a few pieces. My husband had the Maine blueberry pancakes and they were wonderful, as they always have been since we began eating here many, many years ago. We also ordered a Maine blueberry muffin and the server kindly asked if we wanted it toasted and buttered (thank you) and it was absolutely delicious as was the coffee. The reason why we ate here only once, instead of every morning of our stay as usual wasn't because I was shorted on the home fries. We stayed away for the following reasons: 1). The chairs on the deck (where we and everyone else prefer to eat) were horribly uncomfortable! Whoever made the decision to replace the chairs with these cheap, wobbly, back-bending, plastic lawn chairs made a BAD decision and it wasn't just my opinion... once one person mentioned it, everyone chimed in and complained! The slope of the back of the chairs force you to recline when all you want to do is bend forward a little to eat at the table. Patrons feel like a bug on its back! 2). The new, cheap plastic patio chairs have a bigger footprint than the old chairs, and they make the deck horribly tight! The chairs are back-to-back, so unless every customer is a size 0, you cannot sit down! Folks were really frustrated at not being able to sit AT their table, or being shoved AGAINST their table due to overcrowding caused by these horrible, awkward, plastic chairs! 3). The staff MUST start posting that guests cannot claim tables until they have an order number. It's the job of the staff to make patrons comfortable and welcome! Rude patrons were hogging tables LONG before they ordered leaving folks with hot plates of food nowhere to sit and eat! It's just plain wrong and something needs to be done about it, even if it's just enforcing a rule that you cannot sit down until you have an order number to place on your table. Seeing folks standing up, trying to juggle their plates and place their coffee cups on the ground is inexcusable! There are a few tables indoors and two or three out back on pea gravel (no view of the harbor, but a few flowers; it's pretty) but most patrons want the view and I think it's up to the management to, well, manage! Great food, great views, horrible seating. Please replace the chairs to sturdy bistro chairs (I noticed you had a few) and please manage the seating. We only had one meal there (out of our entire 10 day stay) because nobody wants to begin their day with frustration. Breakfast should be relaxed and peaceful. read more

We arrived about 20 minutes after they had opened and the queue had already stretched out the door, but the line moved quickly. The hostess taking orders was chatty and pleasant despite the line and gave no impression of trying to move you along. The waiter had a genuine smile and was attentive. Ambiance - With indoor and outdoor tables right on the waterfront you can't go wrong. Quintessential Maine! Food - We appear to be on a hash kick and think the hash and eggs at Blue Moon were even better than the hash at Waves! If you can imagine that! Not too much potato, perfect sunny eggs and even the hollandaise was a smidge tastier. A fruit cup was full of blueberries, grapes, melon and fresh strawberries. And the coffee? Thank the bean gods for delicious coffee- try the dark roast. Yum! Blue Moon gets 5 stars and deserves them! Go early and enjoy! read more
